Sorry you didn't enjoy the game.
It's was great until the last 7 minutes. But Maryland is horrible. I'm not happy with winning 1 NCAA Tournament game a year. Maybe you are. Or not winning the BIG. We fired Crean and he won multiple BIG titles and got to the Sweet 16. What are your expectations?
It’s not a question of enjoying last night’s game or not. You know better. Perimeter shooting is a glaring weakness on this team and Woodson failed to address it. Failed miserably. It’s a legit criticism that will dog him for the whole season and deservedly so. It’s not like we needed a five star phenom. A sharp-shooting mid-major transfer would’ve sufficed….
Win the next game with the roster we have. Do that and those other things will fall into place.
My philosophy is I'm not going to stress about Woodson's roster choices. I'm interested in him winning games with the guys he's got. If he doesn't he'll face the consequences (next man up?).
The portal was loaded with very good shooter and CMW was so focused on bigs that he failed at balancing the team with a great shooting guard. He was gambling on Galloway to be way better. Man that was a huge mistake as far as outside shooting is concerned. His rotations for long periods of time leaving your best front guys on bench baffles me too. I can understand breathers but 5 play clock minutes at a time with Bricklayer Sparks out there is ??? at best.
I love Sparks intensity but someone needs to coach his free throw shooting.

Look again. He’s 31% this year, 33% last year. When his usage goes up he gets worse. If you want to argue he’s regressed. Wait until he actually plays guards that can defend. Good grief stop grasping at straws.

You need multiple guards in the NCAA. It's a guards tournament. He was great in the NCAA Tournament last year. How was Galloway. I'm concerned about who plays best then. Not over a long season of meaningless games.
He’s not a better fit next to who we have. He’s almost the same player as Trey. You going to trade one for the other. We actually needed a guy for the other wing. That type of player is harder to find. Like a dalton knecht…etc. not another trey Galloway. The trade off might’ve worked but at this point it’s not enough difference.

Galloway isn't a volume shooter or scorer. Why don't people get that? They aren't similar. He could have been out there with X and Galloway. Galloway could also play some 3 like when Cupps is in. X is the best 2 guard on the roster. We need another guard terribly.
It’s insane what “fans” will come up with because Woody didn’t get to a final 4 yet. We are a super young team. Woody recruited one of the best centers in all of college basketball after the whiners did all the hand wringing that we were losing TJD. MM was wanted by every team in the country and Woodson got him. Galloway is coming off a great game and I personally believe X will get better and better. He literally missed almost all of last year. We need to be good by the end of the year and it looks to me like we might be. Just give the babies their pacifier. Enjoy the ride!
Neither is this guy. Sheesh. Yeah sure he”could” but why? and he would be replacing a guy on the court. He wants 30 min a game. We didn’t have that to offer. So you want another 30ish% shooter who takes 2 or less a game on the floor? Makes zero sense.
And most guards wouldn’t be volume shooters on a team with 2 big guys shooting 60%+ from the floor.
You see what happens when teams shoot volumes. It doesn’t work. You don’t want a Galloway or this kid shooting volume threes. Recipe for a loss.
Completely agree. We will need to hit some shots when teams effectively guard, double or triple our interior guys. But with Ware, Reneau, Walker, MM, and Banks I don’t want to be a team to take 20+ 3s every night. Work the ball around and get a good shot. For us that will more times than not be a 1 on 1 with Ware or Reneau.
Everyone wants the great shooters. They have multiple options and the fact that they choose other programs doesnt' mean that Woodson was negligent. Do you have insider info that says we didn't make an effort to land Knecht or others ? Also, GOOD shooter doesn't mean GREAT shooter. Depending on the competition, the makeup of the kid's previous team, the rest of his skillset or attitude, the offense he's used to or was successful in, etc., not all of those kids are going to be a good fit. I'm pretty sure Woodson knows better than anybody that perimeter shooting is a problem.
As for the rotations, it's the first day of December. It's a long, long season. In a game that isn't in doubt the benefits of playing more people extended minutes far outweigh the drawbacks - even if it means stretches of ugly play. Relax and appreciate a win to open conference play.
IU has a really strong frontline. Those three guys are still working out their chemistry. As the chemistry gets better, and Mack gets going (hopefully), I expect the outside will start to open up for IU’s shooters. Galloway will start connecting, as will Mack.
On the other hand, I’ve lost faith in Gunn. He will either start connecting, or I hope he leaves those shots to guys that are much more likely to hit.

IU has a real shooter coming in next year (McNeely), but in general Indiana has struggled to find the classic shooters for a number of years. I imagine Woodson is learning and will look for someone to fill the roll soon.
But also, you can't build a team if first year guys depart after the season, so I think it will be tough for them to find the right roll players when they need to keep filling massive scoring and rebounding gaps.
I'm not a basketball coach by any stretch but after building a comfortable lead, you might take the opportunity to rest your "best guys" and also reduce the chance of them getting injured. We have tougher opponents than we faced last night coming up soon.
Yes they would because they would be wide open due to double teams. Malik is doubled every time he gets the ball.

No. Many just dislike the constant bitching and moaning from some. There are good things happening, mostly ignored by some.
CMW likes to get his other players as much time as he can, when the opportunity permits. We had the opportunity, and he got guys experience. I’d rather build depth and win by 10 than not and win by 20…
