IU vs. Syracuse: Game Analysis (2013)

It was that bad. A lot of the clips in “the good” videos are not actually good. Just because we scored, doesn’t mean it was good.

Zeller had that elbow jumper all day long. The fact he insisted on continually driving, leaning and flailing, looking for a call, is on Crean. I do appreciate that we seemed to have better movement on offense....for the most part...under Crean. However, too often that movement mimicked his spastic demeanor on the sideline. Plus, we could never go on a run because we could never get multiple defensive stops

Isn’t it a little on Zeller, too?

Love Cody but always heard what a great shooter he was for a big. THis was the game to exploit it. The hole in the zone is the FT line...get the ball there, turn shoot hit the shot. Do that a few times, people start moving to cover him, zone loosens up. Lowering the shoulder and barreling in did not work. Crean has the whiteboard and the magic marker. He has to call the time out, draw up the Xs and Ox and dictate strategy.
Seems like having CWat flash to the FT line and shoot...or Sheehey, would have been a great strategy. We also had 2 short guards (one injured) who would always have trouble shooting over longer guys like MCW. Tourney games are about matchups and this one was bad for IU.
Those who watched this game knew it was over early. We did not look like a team that knew what to do.

That shot was there for CZ, he just failed to recognize it and take what the D gave him. I’m no Crean fan, but the players lost that one, too.

Yeah, it sucked to watch Mitch friggin McGary, knock down that elbow jumper a week later, that Cody could have taken and hit all night long. Cody was (is?) a reluctant shooter and scorer.
