IU = Rock Bottom

A bball talking head claims IU’s top targets were:

1 Stevens
2 Drew
3 Otzelberger
4 May

and received Nos from all. Once it became apparent that DD was leaving WVU, IU decided to come strong at him as Iowa was waiting to talk more with McCollum after interviewing DD.

If true, IU went with what they thought was the strongest available candidate with Portal experience.

Well DeVries was Iowa’s first choice too. So WV, Iowa, and all the talking heads seem to think this is a good hire.
OSU wanted Archie and all the talking heads thought he was a good hire.

I'll support DeVries when he starts winning games. Until then I'm neutral on him.

I'm not a math guy but I think I was reading WVU was #255 in some offensive efficiency statistic? To hire this candidate is offensive to offensive.
They lost their two best players early in the season. I am guessing that had something to do with that offensive efficiency stat. We saw what happened when Reneau was out this year, did IU improve their offensive efficiency while he was out? I think he will do better than people expect. Although hiring coaches are just like recruiting big name players .... you never know what they will do until after the fact.

Uh I think you need to do a little more research because that’s a really bad take.
Let's be honest about something... In what world would this guy turn IU down? Supposedly they may have beaten out Iowa for his services?

This is called striking out on A, B, and C. You take the scraps. Now it may work out with the 7 mil NIL and his stud junior, but he is no belle of the ball.

You need to listen to the video from VW guys that traveled with the coach. That video is on the post about WV fans being butthurt,

That guy sure knows. Lmao. This has been the narrative the media has been pushing but they really don’t know.

What other program got a guy this year that we should have had? NC State? lol I mean, if we're supposed to have beaten out someone other than Iowa? Which program is it?

If Kentucky had an opening this year, Devries may have been on it. Or Michigan, or Louisville. Like May was and others. Maybe they interviewed him last year.

A few here want a 70 year old 'proven winner' who bangs waitresses when the wife's not around and hire hookers for the recruits. To prove we're a 'blue blood'!

The athletic directors of blue bloods do the real work, and hire other guys. Good, solid up and comers.

We did the same. We're a blue blood again.
,

I think 5 of the top 8 seeds are coached by guys 65 years of age or older. And yes I would have loved to have had Rick Pitino at any time during our slide into irrelevance. I think we have a guy that can duplicate his results from his previous stops at IU. With a few years of that he'll be in the upper tier of the conference coaches. It has a long-term Greg Gard feel to me. A helluva lot better than the last 30 years. The best of the baggage free group. And we'll never know the facts with this search. Who turned us down, the names on the list etc.

5 banners in the first 48 years of the tournament. 0 in the last 38. If he can hang one he'll be God.
