Cig is the real deal. He deserves more fan support. My boys took me to the game today and it was disappointing to see so many empty seats.

Apologies if there is another thread, I didn't bother to check. Good night.

Made my first IU football game today in 13 years with a buddy. I stayed until 2:30 left in the 4th quarter. Only two more, but a start.

My buddy said we were actually sold out. 25,000 fans came dressed as empty seats.
My wife and I have season ticket seats (first year ever) on the south 40-yd line in row 45, east side. No one has showed up besides us on our bleacher segment (piece of aluminum, if you know what I mean). There are multiple reserved cushioned seatbacks that have had no asses in them yet this year. I hope these other season ticket holders show up for Maryland. That's going to be our first true challenge. I also hope the students stick around for the second half for once.

UCLA was a true challenge. Unless you’re meaning first true challenge at home.

We don’t need to lose games, or even have close scores, for them to be challenges.

Glad you’re a season ticket holder though! We need more of you. And more that start prioritizing going to the games.

It has been lost on this athletic department for decades the the majority of fans want to see competitive games, That goes for hoops too.
BS

They've scheduled competitive games. We've lost them. UK. NC State. Cincy. Navy. Wake Forest. Louisville. UVA.

We've literally won ONE non-con home/neutral game against a P5 opponent in the past 15 years, and that was UVA.

My seats are very close to yours (we have seatbacks). We've been to every game and stayed to the end for two of the three games.

There's a 6 person family near us that went 1st half only-no show-first half only in the three games.

I took my 11 year old Granddaughter to her first IU game Saturday. Got cheap, GREAT tickets (section 28, row 25, seats 101 & 102) on Seatgeek for $30 each before fees IIRC. BTW, I just checked and the same seats are available for the Maryland game for $55 each on SG.

Back to my story. With an 11 year old girl accompanying me, I spent half of the first half either in line for concessions, the restroom or staying in the shade because she was hot. We left after the band played and went to TIS where I dropped WAY too much money on outfitting my Grandkids.

For the first time since I was a student at IU (class of '86), and only the second time ever, I left a game early. The things we do for our Granddaughters!

It was hot in the stadium, and there was no breeze in our area. Regardless, had I not brought my Granddaughter I would have stayed to the end.

The plus, as I was showing her more of campus yesterday she told me she wants to go to IU. but she's going to bring a bike so she won't have to walk as much!

Nice. Tough to walk campus and not want to go to IU.

I wonder how much it would cost to install awnings over both stands.

The Romans figured out how to do it for The Colosseum...

The trick is not having it turn into a large sail that takes on a life of its own...

Maybe when we put in the suites on the E side and revamp the press box we can add something like that...

With a bunch of noon Kickoffs and it staying hot all the way thru early October, installing something like that isn't as far fetched as it might sound...

Problem is we have to have fans who'll prove they're worthy of the effort... If I'm the AD I'd be thinking: "Why worry about their comfort if 2/3rds of them either aren't coming in at all, or are leaving at halftime no matter what the circumstances?"

Having gladiators and lions as the halftime show would definitely keep the kids from leaving at halftime.

Want to cut down on the heat? Time to rip out the aluminum bleachers that act like a skillet and replace them with plastic seating with backs.
Don’t like cold metal when it’s 20-30 degrees outside? Plastic seats solve that.

The easy solution is to keep the bleachers but cover them with a combination of 2" thick closed cell foam topped with a vinyl/polyester white cover (crimson would look better but it would probably be hotter) that's attached to the bleachers with non-stretch nylon cord underneath the bleacher... That would be a softer and overall more comfortable (cooler in the heat and warmer in the cold)..., and much cheaper than ripping everything out and starting from scratch...

Once again though the fans have to prove they're worthy of the expense...

Guess you missed the Oregon and Missouri games.

Western Illinois - didn't even look for it on the radio.

Can you point to me the exact date that we played Mizzou and Oregon AT HOME, as I said in my post? Home or neutral.

The topic is home attendance, so why would road game opponents enter into the discussion?

I agree and disagree. The casual fans do not know how good we have it. But the true die hard fans (at least the intelligent ones) know exactly how good we have it. However.....and this is a big however.....we have been burned before by being excited just to be let down. I 100% think this is different, but we still haven't played a good team yet. I think this week will make a big difference in the attendance from here on out. We win, and look really good doing it, then we will will have great crowds the rest of the year. We lay an egg, then forget it.....we will continue to see a disappointing number of fans.

There is a difference with this staff, WR are blocking well, our RB are dynamic, QB is around 75% completion rate, a defense keeping opponents under 10 points a game. Waiting for more evidence of change is shortsighted that cheats this team of support.

I can watch IUFB on streaming youtube.com

Like I said, I really think it is different this time. I mean, I know it is. But you can't complain about the lack of fans for FIU, Western Illinois and Charlotte with our history. Shortsighted or just waiting for better teams. We are not talking about the die hard fans, those have been there. As I have this year and past disappointing years. Problem is, we just need more die hard fans.

Yes, but the topic was home attendance and our fans preferring to see competitive opponents to show up...so a road game/win doesn't really matter, because we lose all of those games.
Sorry i was thinking of Power 5 wins!! I was at the 2013 Mizzoo game. Was very well attended but we were overpowered in that matchup. It has always been a Catch 22 in regards to scheduling. I remember the Corso days when IU played some really tough opponents. It probably cost him a longer tenure in Bloomington. The games were exciting but you knew we had no chance against Nebraska, USC and some others. We did beat LSU in 1977 at home and I was there that day as well. If the Coach can't win he won't be around long. So unfortunately we fans have to put up with some lower hanging fruit until CCC gets us back to where we need to be.

Kudos to the family for coming to two of three of those games. I don't understand; that's a lot of expense and effort not to watch to near the end. But they must have reasons.

And way to be there! Go Hoosiers.
