It was DeSantis -- Praise the Lord and Pass the Contributions

Keep in mind that DeSantis was the Republicans first choice before Trump showed them how to do it.
Sounds like a self-dealing scam. Problem is …. who’s going to investigate? The Florida AG? Bondi? Not a chance.

It’s truly a shame he didn’t win the nomination.
Definitely. He would have been a competent president

I don't understand the concept that government aid is bad and teaches people to be lazy and let us take care of them, but church aid doesn't? If someone else is buying the burrito, isn't the sit back and let them buy it problem the same?

I have heard someone on the far right make that point, no one should be helping the poor as all help is contrary to self-reliance. I disagree with that. At a minimum, it violates what my religion believes that we are to help those less fortunate. But at least it is internally consistent.

Dependency. Church feels like a gift gov an entitlement. Cradle to grave.

How is that different? Churches have run orphanages and old folks homes and soup kitchens and homeless shelters throughout somewhat modern history.
It’s different in so many ways. And I know. Salvation Army is a church. Church is charity designed to fill gaps. Gov is different in purpose scope duration on and on. Gov confers a benefit one can ostensibly rely on that creates dependency vs the vagaries of charitable giving

1) People usually don’t become permanently dependent on private charity.

2) And the people running the charities aren’t motivated to bring that about.

3) Charitable funds are given voluntarily

Government aid is someone else's money that was taken from them and church aid comes from people who choose to donate it. Also, governments have the ability to print their own money, run up deficits, and pass on the inflation to the populace to maintain their programs, which is theft in my opinion. Churches don't have that ability.

Accepting charitable assistance is a far greater motivator to become self-sufficient than an impersonal government distribution.

That charity has a name often a face or personal relationship attached. Most people of good consience wouldn’t want to be reliant on that for too long.

Like when Russel Crowe returns his welfare check at the end of Cinderella Man. People don’t do that in real life because why give your money back to a bloated government? They might do it if they’re receiving assistance from their local parish.
