Israel under attack from Hamas

Heh, I don't know which is worse. That you A) typed that response or B) hit the Post reply button.

I think you are taking the devil's advocate role a little too seriously?
I'm saying the Gazans are not a free people, and we can't just assume they actually endorse the people who "run" their local hellhole. You disagree with that assessment?

The Gazan people are being held captive by Hamas? 2.1 million people living in a 141 square mile land mass are being kept at bay by fewer than 20,000 militia fighters with small arms? Or maybe what we really have is a population that isn't so different ideologically from those that run their "shi-tho-lee" that they can't be moved to act despite not having elections in 20 years?

I don't know. I'm just asking how you can say a population has the "leaders they want" when they haven't had an opportunity to actually choose leaders in two decades.

Buttressed by the actions of Hamas, it's supporters and the Gazan people since 10/7/23 up to present day, I'm going to say it's more likely than not that the average Gazan aligns themselves with Hamas. That's how.

The claim wasn't that they support them. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. The claim was that they chose them. I think it's pretty clear they did not. They didn't choose anyone.

Said the baby and toddler were strangled. Not by Hamas, they were taken by Palestinian "civilians".

It takes some up close and personal psychopathy to strangle a baby. I truly do believe that the average Palestinian above the age of 13 or so is irredeemable when it comes to the topic of living with the Israelis. They have lost. They are not going to win that fight and continuing to stay locked in the conflict is so unhealthy for them civilizationally, they are unwanted by their Egyptian and Jordanian cousins. They need moved. Pluck them from Gaza and drop them in Tripoli to start anew. Anywhere across the Muslim world really, just can't stay where they are. And I would run them out of the Judea and Samaria too.

There was some wisdom in the brutality of wars in the pre-modern age. Leave or die, we aren't going to be able to coexist.

Yep, they simply don't trust each other.

Really hard to negotiate any agreement when each side doesn't trust the other.

The single state notion goes even further. Requires trust plus respecting and liking each other. Good example would be Reagan and Gorbachev.
And we are still at odds with Russia.

There is no single state solution. There really isn't a two state solution on that tiny strip of territory. That is the reality.

It's impossible to find any level of "trust" with a society (the Palestinians) that teaches their youngest that murdering you is a great idea...

It's deeper than just mistrust. Large numbers of people on both sides simply don't want to live in a shared state. Palestinians think the land was stolen and want it back, and Israelis fear not having an inherently Jewish state.

There are individuals among both populations, of course, who would love to have a binational, secular, democratic state where everyone lives together in peace, but not enough for it to be remotely a realistic option, at least not anytime soon.

Bullshit. Israelis fear getting their civilians attacked, kidnapped, & murdered by terrorists. Israelis don’t care that people aren’t Jewish, they care that they rape, murder & pillage its citizens. Neither side wants to live that way, but only one resorts to terrorism.

That's ridiculously stupid and ignorant of the very purpose of the existence of Israel. Zionism is based on the idea that for Jews to truly be safe in the world, there must be a Jewish homeland to protect them. This little thing called "The Holocaust" helped to drill home for many of them just how true that thinking is. It's incredibly important to many Israelis - and even Jews in other nations - that Israel remains a Jewish state with a Jewish political system and a Jewish majority. Because - again, for reasons that make perfect sense considering history - they don't believe that the Jewish nation/culture is safe without such a backstop.

Talk about ridiculously stupid and ignorant: Is that why Israel allows Arabs - non-Jews - to live in Israel and hold government positions?

Of course that’s why Israel exists, but their handling of Gaza & Palestinians(which is what is being discussed) isn’t driven by the fact they’re not Jews, it’s because the stated goal of the Palestinians is to terrorize & kill them all & they act on it. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of folks out there that are willing to look past this because anything goes if you’re oppressed.

There are almost 200,000 Christians is Israel, how’s it going for them?

Hey, what about a single state solution with Jews and Palestinians living side by side enjoying the same equal rights?

Rights which include practicing freedom of religion.

One important caveat, citizens must follow the laws of the land.
How would that ever work?
JDB, the single state solution, just like the Trump idea of turning Gaza into a tourist paradise, will never happen.

Thus, we will never know.
