Talking with UK fans when they're in crisis mode is always a pleasure, even though it's not quite often enough for my taste
Today I heard a pretty good stat from one of the downtrodden. I gave it a brief check and added a little myself by removing the BCG and Kentucky Shame years.
From 1979-2009 (the first seeded tournament up to Cal's arrival)
******All %'s bolded in blue are pre-Cal
Today I heard a pretty good stat from one of the downtrodden. I gave it a brief check and added a little myself by removing the BCG and Kentucky Shame years.
From 1979-2009 (the first seeded tournament up to Cal's arrival)
******All %'s bolded in blue are pre-Cal
- UK was seeded #1, #2, or #3 58% of the time
- UK under Cal was seeded 1-3 44% of the time
- UK without Cal was seeded #1 or #2 48% of the time
- UK with Cal was seeded #1 or #2 44% of the time
- UK was seeded #1 slightly higher with Cal than without 33% vs 29%
- If you take out the 2 Billy Clyde years and the 2 Kentucky shame years, UK was seeded 1-3 66% of the time without Cal compared to 44% with Cal
- All of this assumes that this season will not end in a Top 3 seed, but even if UK makes an unlikely run at a Top 3 seeding it will only bring Cal even with UK's seeding history.
- #1 or #2 seeds have won 74% of NCAA Tournaments and a whopping 87% have been seeded no lower than #3
