Interesting comments from Luke Fickell on targeting

Like usual are rule designed for one thing, is misused bringing up question about how to change it. The original intent was to take malicious hits against unprotected [ie players not seeing the hit coming] not defensive players getting blocked into an offensive player. The example of Whop getting knocked out by two PSU players; one was clearly head to head and both were questionable, but the officials ignored the hits on review.

IDK that they even reviewed the Whop “double header” (Pardon the pun) vs Penn St did they?

I’m sure every team in the country has had some tough ones go against them…but the inconsistency is ridiculous!!!

Whop’s didn’t get called, maybe not even reviewed, which was very malicious. Then McFadden gets run getting blocked into the guy, no flag on the play, only to be “detected” while looking at review for a question of incomplete vs a fumble…maddening!!
