Impeachment

Supposedly Trump called Pelosi to see if they could “work something out” before she announced impeachment proceedings. That doesn’t sound like an innocent man. Because of course he’s not.

Warren's big advantage is she'll be able to run a populist campaign against Trump and say "he didn't do X, Y, Z", is corrupt, in bed with Wall Street, etc.. Biden would get painted as being "of Washington", etc. and being establishment. You can't really paint Warren as that, and she's folksier than your stereotypical impression of a liberal MA Senator.

I'm sure she's got this gamed out with as smart as she is and how much she likes having plans for everything.
I think Warren's BIGGEST advantage is that, unlike Trump, she actually understands how the economy works and would easily demolish any and every unwarranted boast Trump makes.

Wrong side of the ball, it looks like an all out blitz against a sputtering offense to me.

So you think that Biden is toast and Dem party bigwigs agree with you. The only way I can get there is to look at the people who spoke out today and the timing of those announcements. It all could be explained by a simple courtesy call. Biden spoke out but who is to say that the other candidates weren't informed. Uncle Joe is after all a primary figure in all this, it could be he is starting to play the game and called Nancy and said enough is enough. I think the president finally pissed off Biden, not disgusted or surprised but angry. Angry enough to start calling in favors and uniting the troops.

I hope Biden isn't toast bc I would be comfortable with his policies. If Warren or Bernie win, the country is fvcked economically.

Like releasing her DNA results? Yeah, she is a strategic mastermind.
I forgot about that! Now, that you mention it, this is going to be the major campaign theme of Trump and the Pubs. Knowing that they have nothing else to brag about, this certainly has to be.

Biden's trajectory is going nowhere good. He has been a lovable gaffe machine for decades but the current state is getting worse. He would not survive a full election cycle without imploding or worse.

Pete should be the guy but sadly that won't happen leaving Warren as the heiress apparent. While packing some ridiculous concepts she is strong and in control enough to pound out a win particularly if Trump is further damaged by the impeachment process. The handlers will tone down the extremist crap when it really matters. She has some baggage obviously, but none compared to Trump.

A Biden withdrawal at this moment in the face of unsubstantiated and false Ukraine smears would be inarguably the single biggest mistake, and possibly the most dangerous moment in American history. You are asking for a full-on carte blanche dictatorship at that moment. No thank you.

The emotional hatred for Trump is making people act in very foolish ways. This all seems like a mirror of the Clinton impeachment saga, when it was Republicans foaming at the mouth over Bill. The GOP base was deeply convinced at an emotional level that Clinton was a dirty, corrupt, lying slime ball, and that it should be blatantly obvious he shouldn't be in office. And any means necessary should be used to remove him. I lived amongst many Republicans during that time.... and the arguments against Clinton seem so very familiar to today's.

The non- interested greater public rolled their eyes at the obvious partisan gibber-jabber and punished the foolish Republicans at the ballot. Nobody knows how the future will play out with this episode, but my odds are tilted towards this helping Trump get a 2nd term.

So what is this whole thing all about? According to the transcript Trump simply wanted to know why the investigation into Biden's son stopped, right? And if Joe had something to do with stopping it, right? If that's all what did Trump say or do that was immoral or unethical because I'm not seeing anything?

IIUC, recordings don't exist. The records of the calls are notes taken by participants/monitors. The "transcript" will be derived from that.

Ahh, that is something that I did not understand. Transcripts are fairly useless in a case like this. Do you think he will write A+ or "this is a 10" at the top of the paper?

If I recall correctly, that's what they, and possibly you, said when Obama was running.

I voted for Obama the first time actually. I did not vote for him the second time because I did not agree with his economic policies. But, Obama looks like a Tea Party member compared to what Bernie and Lizzie are proposing. He wasn't a self-proclaimed socialist, even if I may have called him such ;)

That's true, but Clinton was a Saint compared to Trump. Clinton didn't joke about third terms. I think this Trump-Ukraine stuff is outrageous. He attempted to extort a foreign government into investigating an electoral opponent. He asked for his personal attorney to be involved in that investigation. I think any decent American should find that sick.

I just assume this is still negative for Joe and he is trending downward. Check the betting odds at RCP.
Could be. Seems like Warren will be the nominee the way it's treading. It's obvious team Trump is most afraid of Biden. It all boils down to the midwest, which is Joe's strength.

The Warren playbook looks like this:
Socialism, Pocahontas, reparations. I think it's going to be a disaster for the dems. Hope I'm wrong.

it is getting ready to happen. The stock market is tanking as a result...

Does this mean that people with money aren't worried any longer?

The least disruptive and practical (given the GOP control of the Senate) is to "impeach" Trump by defeating him in the 2020 election.

I mention "disruptive" because Trump operates best in chaos. The impeachment process can be pure chaos.

Pelosi has it right.
I keep asking this question and no one is answering it. What if we don't impeach and Trump is reelected? Impeaching him then would be harder and make Democrats look like maximum sore losers.

Impeaching him is the right thing to do and I think it's their duty. I still don't believe that impeaching him will hurt the Democrats political chances but even if it did I would still support impeachment. I demand that our congress do the right thing even if it's not the best for them politically. It would be f**king refreshing if they'd do the right thing.

Weill Trump is probably the worst President since at least Andrew Johnson..... so it's not a real high bar.

But this much has been obvious to anyone with a fully functioning brain since well prior to the election.... and he won anyway.

Sounds like what Biden did as VP was a million times worse than anything Trump did. I see no crime committed by DJT and Biden is an imbecile.

Vox said:
“Everyone in the Western community wanted Shokin sacked,” Anders Aslund, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, told the Wall Street Journal. “The whole G-7, the IMF, the EBRD, everybody was united that Shokin must go, and the spokesman for this was Joe Biden.”

The people of Ukraine wanted Shokin gone as well, and demonstrated for his removal around the time of Biden’s threat. Shortly after that demonstration, Shokin was dismissed.

Shokin wasn't investgating Zlochevsky, amongst many others. If Biden wanted to cover up something he would have fought to keep Shokin in there.

Here is the Wall Street Journal, hardly a friend of the left:

The owner of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky, has been under the scrutiny of prosecutors. A minister of natural resources until 2012, Mr. Zlochevsky was accused of improperly granting gas extraction licenses to firms affiliated with him, and at times was investigated for alleged abuse of power, illegal enrichment and money laundering. Mr. Zlochevsky was never convicted of any crimes and denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer also denied that Mr. Zlochevsky ever benefited from his position in government.

Mr. Shokin had dragged his feet on those investigations, Western diplomats said, and effectively squashed one in London by failing to cooperate with U.K. authorities, who had frozen $23.5 million of Mr. Zlochevsky’s assets. In a speech in 2015, the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, called the Ukrainian prosecutor “an obstacle” to anticorruption efforts, and mentioned the U.K. case, which he said led to the escape of illicit assets.
People like the IMF were pressing for the firing because the prosecutor WAS NOT prosecuting anyone. If Biden is trying to protect his son, why would he want the Sgt Schultz of prosecutors fired (now we will see how old people are)?

Trump knew, or could have known, that there was no investigation into Biden's son. That information has been widely reported and surely someone could have explained it to Trump. That isn't what he was after.

Shokin wasn't investgating Zlochevsky, amongst many others. If Biden wanted to cover up something he would have fought to keep Shokin in there.
Actual facts are irrelevant to these people. Whatever Trump asserts, that's what they will believe, whether it is true or not. These are the same people who think the Clintons are serial killers and that Obama is a Muslim.

The Trump WH is so incompetent they e-mailed the talking points to the Dems. You've already heard a lot of these, I'm sure we will hear it more and more:

The transcript is out.. and it reads like pretty verbatim Trump.... meandering nonsense.
The focus on the transcript might show Trump isn't as dumb as we all think. Remember, the complaint was reportedly about multiple conversations involving Trump. So now he releases one, certainly the least damaging one, and everyone forgets that was never the core issue.

Which is why the whistle blower is key. The reason I am not thrilled about the impeachment decision on this issue at this moment is the Dems have gone all in without knowing even their own hand. That whistle blower better be able to name other conversations.
