For the record! Jim Irsay and the Colts have been doing a great job on messaging about de stigmatizing getting help for mental illness. Jim has obviously had his issues, so really deserves credit for this campaign.
I’ve been around that shit so much I can give you the mgs it comes in. No bullshit tho. You have a trial or something that requires extended focus. It’s unreal. We let the daughter ride her bike as far as she could. She’d ride 5 miles to get to a friends house. Where they’d hang out on their phones.
I wouldn't call myself a helicopter parent, but I was probably right there. Not proud of it, but I'd never forgive myself if anything would have happened.
as you climb the ladder you get more locations under your belt and you get a piece of the sales/profit of the locations under you. some of those guys make heavy bucks and they are not the brightest bulbs out there. my buddy was way up in corporate (marketing) making less than the guys who had good (profitable) areas overseeing retail locations
It seems like every time I go into these rental agencies the guys behind the desk are right out of college. And, like you said, not the brightest bulbs.
I figured they were just desperate for a job - I had no idea there is big bucks in it if you stay in it.

I taught criminology at the college level and know many of the old and modern theories of the causes of criminology. And, these theories can probably account for most criminology
However, IMVHO, some people are just evil.
We are never going to agree on this. I laid out the treatment algorithm. I see it every day. I’ve been involved for over 25 years and have seen the changes.
Very few are experiencing true psychotic symptoms. I’m talking the ones needing Clozaril, invega, lithium, seroquel….on and on. A great number of these would have been institutionalized for at least a part of their lives….in a previous point in our history.
The vast majority of people experience some form of “depression” in their lives. Why? Life is tough. We tend to think everyone else doesn’t have problems and their lives are great.
Put SSRI’s in the water….doesn’t bother me.
Milton’s wife and I have been involved for about the same time…based on his previous post. If we sat down and talked in person…I almost guarantee we would have a positive discussion.
Once again….when I started I had 1 bottle of Ritalin and 1 bottle of Dexedrine Spansules now I have a whole safe devoted to Schedule II drugs for ADHD. What has changed in the last 25 years? Has the percentage of broken families increased? Has the way parents view and allow teachers to discipline their kids in school changed? Has kids time in front of electronics increased?
Adderall to get out of bed and get going and Xanax to go to sleep?

I think the story of this dude upsets me more than the OP.
We aren’t going to agree. There is a big difference between clinical depression and situational depression. There are types of mental illness that cannot be resolved without medication. Same with ADD and ADHD. It’s a chemical imbalance that will not improve without medication, no matter how many behavior mod plans they are put on. I do agree that pharmaceuticals are overly prescribed . Decades ago, not enough study had been done to understand that kids weren’t just being bad, that they had a chemical imbalance.
I was fortunate to live around a neighborhood full of kids... when the clock hit 9 am we were out the door and stayed out until the street lights came on.
The only time I was seen is if I ate lunch at home or we went swimming in the backyard or to ask if (which was really a tell because I was rarely told no) to go somewhere on my bike.
I'm still friends with a lot of those guys 35 + years later.
My daughter went to Florida with her best friend and her family for spring break.

This is hilarious, reminds me of a time about 15 years ago on a bachelor party we had pre-party at Hooters and the groom ask this young lady what she wanted to be and she said a "doctor". Looking back that had to be a tough conversation to hear from her side, but 6-7 beers into the night it was funny as hell to the group.

It's the difference between taking Nyquil vs. an antibiotic (or some such med that might eradicate the underlying illness).
I think it's important to remember there is no "cure" for many mental illnesses that I know of. If you're bipolar, you're bipolar. For some forms of depression, the same holds true. But for many, they will resolve on their own. I think it is these latter types--situational depression--that Spartans might be focusing on. I have no idea is ADHD, etc. resolves on its own or not. Some posters here might be proof that it does not.
