I don’t understand the Brownell hate.

I just don't see it. He had an elite 8 last year, but 23 was NIT loss, 22 was no post season, 21 lost first round NCAA, 20 doesn't count, 19 NIT 1 win, 18 S16, 17 NIT, 16 no post season, 15 no post season, 14 NIT, 13 nothing, 12 nothing, 11 First rd loss NCAA

Hard for me to get behind that.

I don’t know. Just checked his HC record and it’s average. I get the football school but he’s only has one elite 8 and I think one sweet 16 in 15+ years. He’s 56 so he’s not young but not old compared to Woodson. I just think he would be a safe hire and that’s not going to help this university get back to being a so called blue blood. Funny thing is I have no idea who else we would go after other than Beard and maybe McCollum although he’s just been a mid major coach his whole career.
That elite 8 was the first for Clemson in 44 years.

Actually, Alford makes zero sense. Alford has already been given the keys to a historic, big name basketball school and never got past the Sweet 16. And he had his share of 5* and 4* players. If Alford was going to do anything stellar, he would have done it at UCLA.
Same as Cronin. Cronin currently has 10 RSCI top 100 guys on his roster and he can't get into the top 4 in the conference. I'm not talking the bs Pac12. I'm talking Big Ten.
The guy who really did well at UCLA was Howland. He was a good coach- at Pitt and at UCLA.

Weirdly strong response to my post that was against the hiring of Brownell.

That bad news for your utilization of caps lock is that he already is performing at Greg Gard level of success. Good, but not great with enough results to know what they are.
Nothing weird, nor strong about it. BB has missed the NCAAT in 9 of his 15 seasons @ Clemson.
That's really where rhe conversation of him should end.
Gard has been at Wisky for 9 seasons. Missed the NCAAT 2x. Has won the B10 twice. Playing for BTT tomorrow.

BB has never won a P5 conference title.

The two are not the same.

The point for me was that neither of them are perceived as coaches that will be winning national titles. They have both won at a clip in the low 60%(64vs 62 over the same timeframe) if we are wanting to nitpick, Gard also hasn’t made it to the elite 8. While they may not be the same, the results aren’t demonstrably different. Gard had the luxury of taking over a well oiled machine from Bo Ryan.

Give me McCollum over both all day.

UCLA isn’t IU. Ask Cronin if you don’t believe me. Brownell is a huge step up from Woody, so is McCollum

Solid coach. Dude is at a football school that doesn’t GAF about basketball. Has experience. From southern Indiana. Not 100 yrs old. And his record the last 3 yrs is impressive.

Would not be upset with this hire. I can see him having real success here.
Where to even begin. Makes the ncaa only 30% of the time for starters. His career is average at vest. .500 in conference

It's the idea of us being in a position that would result in a less than inspiring name. Again. Brownell is the poster child for that nightmare. I don't think it's Brownell specific hate.

Give Brownell Indiana quality talent and he’ll have us at the top
Isn't that what we

Isn't that what we thought about the last three coaches?

This is almost exactly what I heard about Crean. I was not a fan of the hire and asked if IU fans would be happy if he reproduced the results he had a Marquette.
I was told by many that once he got to IU, the resources IU has will let him excel. He did win a couple of BT titles which no one seems to be able to do now but no E8 or FF.
Brownell is who he is and he only wins 60% of conference games.

NO THANKS.

But its McCollum that lacks the resume'....not Brownell. Somehow....because this is "Indiana"....a journeyman coach is going to turn into a champ. So, apparently....IU's hiring mistakes have been that we weren't looking at enough journeymen.
