I think it would probably be best for Biden to just pardon him and tell everyone to move on.
Yeah, no.

How Nixonian of you and I agree completely.I wouldn't pardon him. I'd let the evidence come out but do or say nothing... not make any public statements on it, not have the DoJ say anything one way or the other... and let Trump twist in the wind.
Fascinating idea. Biden pardon Trump. That could really fvk with Trump’s mind, and his re-election ambitions.I suspect, despite the idea that many Trumpers here have developed that the DOJ is basically a political arm of either the President or the Deep State, depending on whom is in their sights, Trump and his close allies will be in danger of federal investigation only if there is evidence they committed federal crimes, and if there isn't, they won't. That said, even if there is some cause to go after him - if, for example, there is some tenuous link to him that arises during this bribery investigation - I think it would probably be best for Biden to just pardon him and tell everyone to move on.

Are you talking about Ted Cruz? Thank you God for making Cruz so unlikeable.Im torn on this one. Like everyone else, I have severe Trump fatigue. Im exhausted by the terribleness of him and his family. The thought of them getting more air time and playing, again, the victims in all this makes my head hurt. Plus, everyone, Trump cultists and Trump haters know that it is all true. Everything that would come out would be believable by all of us. Deep down, we all know who he is.
But....what precedent will we be setting? The main reason he didn’t successfully direct the coup was because he is incompetent and lazy. I don’t think we can assume that the next authoritarian will be like him. He exposed the weak spots in the system. A smart, motivated person could take this further.

Or Newsome or Whitmer or.... they come in all shapes and sizesOr Cotton. Or Hawley. Or Pompeo. I think there are plenty of would be authoritarians waiting in the wings.

LOL andrew desiderio. listen, sons, daughter, i know i've implicated you in tax evasion, wire fraud, bank fraud, and probably rico violations, and i know that we lost the election and are no longer in politics, but there's some republicans in congress that think this pardon is a bad idea so i'm afraid you're going to have to potentially face the next decade or two in prison. i'm very sorry. but this will give us some good will going forward with mr romney and othersOf course he is looking to pardon his family. Man, I remember when Clinton, Bush, and Obama all pardoned their kids. The whole Trump family apparently has exposure. Not shocking.
Not normal, but the Nixon pardon did give an unfortunate precedent, being that it was completely vague about the crime or crimes for which he was being pardoned, but instead pardoning him for any federal crimes committed between the date of his inauguration and the date of his resignation. So... it is precedent. Is it normal to give preemptive pardons?
Interesting.Of course he is looking to pardon his family. Man, I remember when Clinton, Bush, and Obama all pardoned their kids. The whole Trump family apparently has exposure. Not shocking.
This is for payments to Biden for pardons, right?I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up yet.

Agreed. Biden will sell out his country for money - why wouldn't he accept money for a pardon?First scandal fatigue. Second, if they were selling pardons, who would be surprised? Third, I am not sure we can convince his supporters it is even wrong. Lastly, the continued attacks on the vote are much more damaging to our foundations than petty theft.
I LOVE this thread. So prescient. Good job, Goat!Interesting.

Its called Tuesday in this Trump regime. You have to give him credit -- 100% consistent right till the end.
According to the following article, attorney offices were raided about "the end of this summer":
Justice Department investigating potential presidential pardon bribery scheme, court records reveal
The Justice Department is investigating a potential crime related to funneling money to the White House or related political committee in exchange for a presidential pardon, according to court records unsealed Tuesday in federal court.www.cnn.com"The filings don't reveal a timeline of the alleged scheme, or any names of people potentially involved, except that communications between people including at least one lawyer were seized from an office that was raided sometime before the end of this summer."
The actual court filings discuss communications with "senior White House officials" and say a hearing on the filings was held on August 25, 2020. The filings may be read at this link:

And, think about the timing of the August raid and hearing for a minute -- apparently, 2-3 months before the election, somebody with ties to Trump not only thought there was a good chance he would lose the election, but also thought Trump might be receptive to the pardon idea without blowing his stack at the idea.
So, is it possible Trump has known for months that his reelection was in trouble?
bookmarked for when you are OUTRAGED about some minor Biden administration scandal that's like 1% of what Trump openly did.
It turns out importing welfare taking Islamists wasnt such a great idea after all.
As it stands, around 2.1 million of Sweden's inhabitants, or 20% of the population, were born abroad, with Syria, Iraq, Iran, Somalia and Afghanistan the most common non-EU countries of birth
Sweden told people to open their hearts to immigrants 10 years ago. Its U-turn has been dramatic
Sweden's reputation for openness and tolerance is changing as the government adopts an increasingly hostile and restrictive stance on immigration.www.cnbc.com
The government also wants to greatly reduce the number of low-skilled laborers moving to Sweden. It's introducing a new immigration law that only gives work permits to immigrants who earn a monthly salary of at least 80% of the median Swedish salary, which currently stands at 35,600 Swedish kronor (approximately $3,455). The government noted that certain professions, such as domestic care workers, should be excluded from the new requirements, however.
Suddenly all of Joe's family have written him checks. Memo line "Pardon loan repayment".This is for payments to Biden for pardons, right?
At 2:30 in the morning? No!Radio silence. 😂
I think it's funny that the world turned out backwards. Now we have Dems hiding behind pardons and Repubs promising lawfare. Four years sure changes a lot.
I liked you better as C$.I think it's funny that the world turned out backwards. Now we have Dems hiding behind pardons and Repubs promising lawfare. Four years sure changes a lot.
That’s what made me look up this thread, I remembered the uproar over the idea of Trump pardoning himself and/or his family. The most corrupt administration in American history was a commonly used phrase back then.I think it's funny that the world turned out backwards. Related, what's up with talk of pre-emptive pardons for Guiliani and Trump's family? Don't you have to be guilty of a crime to be pardoned? Is this essentially the Trump crime family admitting that they're painted into a corner and guilty of something?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think pardons are issued with 'fill-in-the-blank' crime and a TBD date.
If it's done, it will be justified as protecting them from perpetual harassment from the leftist socialist hateful revenge seeking Democrats. Which would make sense in some opposite world where the Democrats behave like Trumpsters.
I actually think that unless egregious crimes with incontrovertible evidence can be charged, the Biden DoJ will probably chose to just put the aberration that has been the Trump administration behind us and and move forward. The Trumps will have their hands full with state presecutions as it is.
Yep. And now we will probably have Presidents pardoning their families for the foreseeable future. That’s what made me look up this thread, I remembered the uproar over the idea of Trump pardoning himself and/or his family. Of course, Joe is the only American president to EVER pardon immediate family members, not to mention basically his ENTIRE immediate family.
Completely ass backwards in four years.
Of course, Joe is the only American president to EVER pardon immediate family members, not to mention basically his ENTIRE immediate family.
Trump was never this corrupt, especially when you consider that he KNEW they were coming after him the minute he left office. They’re both corrupt. How does this excuse Trump’s actions. Pathetic that the only defense is that the other guy also committed immoral acts.
Can you imaging Christmas dinner if you don’t pardon the corrupt brother or son?Yep. And now we will probably have Presidents pardoning their families for the foreseeable future.
I think the proliferation of the Presidential pardons as a whole is bad. Biden issuing a bunch as he’s literally walking out the door just seems gross.
Joe commuted the sentence of a guy who was convicted of murdering 2 FBI agents, a crime that should AT LEAST carry the penalty of life in prison.Yep. And now we will probably have Presidents pardoning their families for the foreseeable future.

The posts reviving this thread from 2020 about Trump preemptive pardons started at 8:38PM. Ironically Trump didn’t do it Biden did.At 2:30 in the morning? No!
I said it back then. Just let it go and move on, for the good of the country.Yep. And now we will probably have Presidents pardoning their families for the foreseeable future.
