If one has never spent any time "out West" in the shear vastness of it all, it's simply impossible to understand what our past countrymen fought to overcome and ... thus create us. I've spent a lot of time in Tucson. My buddy and I used to ride dirt bikes out in the open range areas. Riding up old (1850ish) paths ascending the mountain sides. He had scouted all (several) of the old silver mines. We'd park the bikes and go inside. Those where real (idiot) men that made those holes.... or even knew where to plant the first shovel... Much of the old minning equipment, still there. Frozen in time in 2500' desert climate. amazing.
