Hire Beard

Not knowing is enough to pass, for me. Intuition tells me he did it, though. There are other good coaches.
Yes there are other good coaches but that doesn't mean they want to be coach at IU. It ain't the mecca of basketball and hasn't been for years-dgecades!!! TJD tried to bring it back but Woodson has torn all that down. Get real!!! Beard is a good coach and it wasn't proven in court that he did what you say. So you must be a guilty before being proven innocent type of guy. Woodson needs gone sooner than later. He's in a rapid descent and is taking IU with him.

Have to offer Beard whatever it takes, only obvious answer for iubb.

No big name is touching this program, if UK can't pull a big name one year ago then no shot iubb is pulling any big name in a month.

Beard is in college basketball jail at ole miss and has them top 25 and playing well in the SEC, highly unlikely he would turn down a chance at IU. His past appears to be his past, he might have baggage but it was years ago and there's been no signs of it reoccurring. Fans at UT would take him back in a second
Tomorrow!

Pick your poison if you go for a big name hire: Beard, domestic violence, which I believe he was cleared of; Pearl, recruiting violations and asst coach paying players, Pitino...too much to list. I am sure there are more examples. I think any big name is going to come with serious baggage and ego. An up and coming may be cleaner but is hit or miss. So my point is...nevermind.

I wouldn't say that, either. I think over the past decade or more of athletic hires, IU has gotten quite a few right. Moren, Cig, Yeagley, Mercer, Stanton, Aird.
I don’t disagree but the bottom line is:
You better get your two cash cow hires right.

There are 24 sports and only two pay the bills.

I’m also on record that Yeagley Jr. is a bust. Highly overrated. Now, fire away……😊

Agree on Jr. Probably a solid coach, but other schools are bringing in semi-professionals from all over the world.

Meanwhile, we get the St. Louis kids (no offense @mcmurtry66 )

Indiana is going to have to hire a big name coach and pay a mega salary to turn things around. This would be somebody who can coach and recruit. The problem therein lies that he becomes a cult of personality within the university - the exact thing the administration wanted to avoid after Coach Knight.

The other option is to hire a really solid coach and build a program over time. This is probably the way to go. The days of mega dominance are over. Just look at UNC and Kentucky who continue to struggle to find their footing, despite insistence at producing championships.

I calculated Beard is something like 12-5 in the NCAAT the last 7 years. That sets him apart from quite a few of other candidates.

I do understand the morals concerns. If it were me I'd do a deep dive into his life post-Texas. But I wouldn't blacklist him a priori.
Good post.

Beard is sort of in love with the 6'5" tough scoring guards out there. I'm pretty I sure IU just let a guy like that slip and land at UConn.

Beard also has some Indiana connections in the HS coaching ranks already. I think he would do well on the recruiting road in a basketball rich state.

All this talk about police reports and what might have happened behind closed doors is PTSD stuff and better for the non-basketball forum.

Focus on coaching. I like Beard because he could win a championship at IU. I like May because of his energy and ties to IU and his ability to win with a brand new team. I don't like Cronin because he makes excuses about why he isn't quite good enough. He would be a bad fit at Indiana.
Gotta get a coach who wins the toughest games. Dusty went to the FF with zero pros on the team. Now he is thriving in the Big Ten. Beard has a complete zero program in Mississippi competing in the SEC. Can't blame him for wanting to get out of there.
