Maybe Beard is Plan D.
He's not that high.
Maybe Beard is Plan D.
What makes you think Beard IS a candidate. We keep hearing that he is actually not. And why do you actually think only a few coaches who could succeed at IU? I think there are a number of coaches who would do well. And IU is not going to lose its fan base OR it’s NIL money.
Yep. And my positions change and evolve the more I learn about them. Currently, the more I watch Beards teams play, the less I think he’s worth the obvious risks in hiring him. Maybe that's "shade"? Or maybe its observations on what I'm seeing actually watching his teams play. His record and parts of his resume are impressive. And what he was able to put together that first offseason at Texas, talent wise, was also impressive, similar to what he's been able to do at Ole Miss. But since that Natty game... he's barely over .500 in his conference games, and hasn't made a sweet 16. Didn't exactly cash in on those 2 great Texas Tech seasons. And then obviously, the only time he was in a position anywhere near what IU's would be...he had the incident and was fired. He's proven he's capable. He also has risks. My opinion is the risks aren't worth what his ENTIRE coaching resume says he is. I started this whole "search" mindset thinking it was ALL about his DV issues...without them he'd be a homerun, can't miss, candidate. After much digging on the basketball side, while I still think he'd succeed at IU...I don't think its as certain as many make it out to be.I've noticed when IUN doesn't like a particular candidate, even if it's just suggesting Dolson should talk to him, he starts throwing shade on them. He said Brownell's only supported because he played with Cheaney and coached under or was coached by Jim Crews. Neither of which I knew or remembered. But, IMO Beard and Brownell should both be looked at.
I look at Brownell in a similar light at Painter. How many teams had MP on their radar after his first 6-7 seasons? Now he is considered one of the best in the game, but it sure took him awhile to get there. Not sure why it has taken BB 12-14 years to find this success, but he is on a roll the past few years and deserves a hard look as a 2nd tier candidate.Yep. Conversely, the more I watch Michigan play, and the more I read about May, the more I like him as our next coach.
Brownell…I haven’t said much, other than his resume pre NIL/Portal is mediocre. And that he’d be an improvement to what we’ve had the last 8 years or so. His record for most of his tenure at Clemson isn’t impressive, at all, and that’s taking in to account that I’m sure it is more difficult for him to succeed there than it would have been at a number of other ACC teams. But his average finish, over his 14 full seasons in the ACC is 7th -8th. He's had a similar ACC run to Leonard Hamilton...but with less NCAA tournament success.
Not sure I'd say last "few" years.I look at Brownell in a similar light at Painter. How many teams had MP on their radar after his first 6-7 seasons? maybe you're just trolling the PU folks (which I applaud btw!), but Painter is way more accomplished and proven than Brownell.I look at Brownell in a similar light at Painter. Because we used to care about ethics. We used to be proud of having a clean program. I know colleg basketball has changed a lot. I’d still prefer to stay away from coaches we know have major issues. If you want to call that morally elite , that’s your choice.I've never understood why there's a morally elite segment to our fanbase. To the point we've made ridiculous coaching hires for 17 years. Pushback??? WTF happened to us? Is it the 25 years of complex ptsd we have? I know we remember what it was that made us IU. There's a glint of it in why we love Cignetti. It's more than the wins. Why did we really love RMK? Sure he was genius, but he was tough as nails and so were we. Now people are holding their breath hoping to get one of the Rice Crispy elves. " Please Brad come save us I know you've not coached college ball higher than a mid-major 10 years ago and for only 7 years. But you're so dreamy." "Hopefully the low buyout for the guy that washed Fifes jock is low because he wants to be our coach." WTF, I guarantee you the guy named Dusty from the mean streets of Boca Raton will not reflect our basketball DNA.
I like the Mark Few fans. He said 15 years ago we were crazy and he'd never come here. That's OK. We are crazy. Instead of saying we want the best coach we can get that's never been on the naughty list why aren't we saying, "We want the best coach that's not a b7+ch!!!!!) ?
One incident. LolNo! We just don’t judge a person on 1 incident. You have him crucified and blackballed for life.
ehhh, WTF does he know about coaching!
He knows a lot about coaching. He knows little about ethics and morality.ehhh, WTF does he know about coaching!
If you need moral and ethical guidance from a basketball coach…….. you need to put your own life in order before chastising others. He knows a lot about coaching. He knows little about ethics and morality.
You’re an idiot. Being an alcoholic isn’t a crime. You’re just pathetic. One incident. Lol
It isn't...but it sure isn't necessary to hire one for your basketball coach. I'm not even sure its established that Beard is, or was, an alcoholic?? If I knew that, I'd be even more adamant he shouldn't be considered. AND I'd feel badly for him, and hope he always has the support and help he needs to stay out ahead of it. But IU certainly isn't the place for someone with alcohol issues. Obviously. You’re an idiot. Being an alcoholic isn’t a crime. You’re just pathetic.
and again, that's not for you, or I, or zeke to determine. It's for Scott Dolson. The talk that bothers me is that they won't even consider him. Knight? I hear he has a bad temper...It isn't...but it sure isn't necessary to hire one for your basketball coach. I'm not even sure its established that Beard is, or was, an alcoholic?? Just get him a driver. The man can coach. Gordon Bombay had a drinking problem. What did Mr. Ducksworth do? He got him a driver and everything worked out well. Do it Scott. You’re an idiot. Being an alcoholic isn’t a crime. You’re just pathetic.
If Knight were available today and it was known he had previously put his hands on a players throat, the same people would be here saying he should not be considered.and again, that's not for you, or I, or zeke to determine. Yes, he is, but he didn't start out that way. That was my point.maybe you're just trolling the PU folks (which I applaud btw!), but Painter is way more accomplished and proven than Brownell.
You know what. I think Indiana fans are too judgmental and act all high and mighty. It isn't...but it sure isn't necessary to hire one for your basketball coach. I have spent much time around Beard. Your take is laughableNope. Do a little digging.
