Here’s what the federal government should’ve done months ago but it still hasn’t changed

they need to do it now. The past is the past.

The science and medical community seem to be doing everything that they can do to come up with vaccines and medication. Eventually they will. We don’t know if it’s going to be in one month or one year. Trump is basically proposing what Boris Johnson proposed a week ago in great Britain. Let the virus run its course. Survival of the fittest. But that was before Boris Johnson changed his mind less than a week over in order to shut down in this country.

What does the federal government have to do ensure the production of hundreds of millions of masks, gowns gloves and other protective equipment as soon as possible?

What can the federal government do to ensure the production and distribution of necessary foods and medicines?

What does the federal government have to do to ensure law and order during this chaotic period?

What can the federal government do working with private industry to manufacture as many ventilators as possible as quickly as possible?

20% of the people getting admitted to hospitals now are between the ages of 20 and 54. We are talking about millions of people dying and that is only going to be from the first round of this virus.

That only implies 1% of the population between 20 and 54 is going to be hospitalized. Millions of people dying would imply what type of fatality rate in your mind?

Let's say that 20% of the USA's population gets infected, which actually happened in the case of the swine flu (some estimates are higher, for the world). Thankfully in the case of the swine flu, the fatality rate was very low and most infected individuals did not even notice symptoms. Only ~18,000 died. This virus is not so benign.

So 330 million people, 20%, that's 66 million infected. Italy's death rate is near 10%. Let's assume we do much better and it's 5% here.

That's 3.3 million dead. Of course, if escalation occurs over a too short period of time and many victims never get access to care, it could be more of an Italy-like rate. It could be a lot less, too. Many unknowns, for sure, but reasons for concern.

Do you really believe the death rate to be 5%?

Are you assuming the 66 million infected are all of those that are confirmed with positive tests?

It makes no sense to count a person who tested positive yesterday to be a survivor. The progression is much too slow to go with #dead / # tested positive as a meaningful estimation of fatality rate.

the other end of analysis is #dead / # recovered

the truth is somewhere in-between.

17,000 dead worldwide, vs. 103,000 recovered (tested negative after earlier being positive)-14.2%

Italy 6,077 dead vs. 7,432 recovered- 45.0%.

In several of your situations, the federal government would be best served getting the hell out of the way

The question is, do you understand the way corona operates? It gets into your lungs, takes over, and you can’t breathe. Without a respirator, if it gets serious, you’re dead. You’re dead. Goodbye.

Currently there are only so many respirators. Do the math yourself.

I can only assume that you know there is a difference between a respirator and a ventilator? Maybe not. It is ventilators that we are desperately needing.
