First (2nd) Portal addition coming?...

Really! When Iowa would’ve hired him. I know some of you wish that so you could get the great Ben McCollum. Get over it.
What are you talking about? I'm fine with CDD -- he seems pretty good and I've got to trust Scott who knows a lot more about these coaches than I do.

My point is if we hired CDD later than we did because they made the tourney and won some games it's not the end of the world, but it is nice we got him earlier.

Ryan Conwell officially in the portal.

Kory Barnett just took the Oral Roberts HC position so any chance of him following DeVries to IU is gone. Rumors seem to be that Drew Adams (Cincy) and Preston Murphy (currently at Alabama) will be joining Nick Nolton as assistants.

Correct, because I realize I don’t need it. Why would I need it from someone clueless? I get it though, you are shocked one of the best transfer big men is visiting Purdue. Guess he isn’t interested in money, just winning.
The change in Purdouche narratives will be pretty rich if they add a guy like Cluff. Thought Jacobson was the guy? Thought he was all about development over chasing talent in the portal? What about Furst? I bet he likes it in West Lafayette... Cluff isn't coming for peanuts...he'll have 7 figures offers from other schools, so if he picks Purdue, that's what he's getting from them too. So when Colvin, or whoever leaves because they don't also pay him that...

Personally, I hope they do get Cluff. Less minutes for Jacobson. And Cluff isn't a very good defender, especially on the perimeter. His offensive contributions will eat in to TKR's, a bit. And he won't make them better where they need to be better, defensively.

What about Furst? Not sure what he has to do with next season? A team needs two fives, right? Cluff and Jacobson would be a solid duo.

And if Colvin leaves because he isn’t getting seven figures, that’s fine. Probably not a good fit anyways. You can have development and supplement from the portal. Where has anyone said Painter doesn’t and refuses to use the portal? So not sure what narrative is changing?

I can't speak for people who claimed that. My view is this hire could have been made later and it would have been okay. Of course if our guy was available early on, it has some benefits with this portal.
You are assuming with that that CDD was not the guy that Dolson wanted though, if he is, why wait??

I think he probably was the guy after Brad and maybe another long shot said no in February or whenever it was.

No reason to wait. What I’m saying is if West Virginia made the tourney and won some games and we had to wait it would have been okay.

For me, Scott picked his guy and from what I can tell he is good. And we’ll just have to see how he does.

My buddy...that works directly with Painter on many things NIL related... He would say there isn't a set "number" that Smith, or anyone is receiving. And even if there was, there are multi year agreements in place...even agreements that are in place for money, perks, even job opportunities, well after his/their playing days are done. Smith's ENTIRE NIL package might be 3M, or even more than that, but it VERY, VERY likely is NOT an annual set number.

PU seems very protective of its image, that of a low NIL program that is doing it “the right way”. What makes PU look better, that they have a bunch of players that are being paid peanuts or that a player like Smith is being paid millions?

You would love it to only be 3 mil, but that isn’t reality. Plus rev share comes in now. Purdue likely retains their core and goes shopping. I’d they don’t have money, they aren’t doing either.

So not sure what narrative is changing?

That PU is doing things “the right way” and that they are all about team, and not just buying players.

The more the $NIL, the worse it makes PU look.

Purdue literally had a starter on their team last year that was from the portal. Painter will take them when he needs them. He just wants to be careful on who he takes because he has his culture in place and he wants them to fit his culture. And he is still going to recruit and develop through high school and build through high school. That isn’t changing and doesn’t make Purdue look “worse” and neither does paying their own.

For a few days in a row, I kept coming to look at this thread to see what kind of possibilities exist, what kinds of rumors are circulating in terms of IU staff and players. Seems as though someone came along and ran this thing off the rails. Give it a rest please.

Adding a guy like Cluff doesn't address obvious team needs...its adding an expensive, highly valued, portal guy. They have a very good low post scorer, that can't guard the perimeter very well, already, in TKR. And his addition will take away from guys Painter has invested a lot of time and development in. It goes against what Painter has publicly stated, and many Purdue fans have stated, is how he's going to run his program. I honestly don't care...other than its what most people outside West Lafayette said would 100 percent start happening after Edey left...and its a clear sign that he's changing his philosophies. As much as you all will try to explain it away.

Lance Jones, the Utah dude... they're not 7 figure guys like Cluff is.

The point on Colvin, or whoever else might leave, is that Purdue isn't likely going to keep guys any more just because they "like winning". And the second they hire a 7 figure mercenary like Cluff, the entire thing starts to unravel...unless they have the cheddar to pay them all.

**I thought Furst had another year of eligibility...so my bad on that one. Was thinking he might get pushed out...but obviously that wouldn't be the case. Maybe insert Berg instead... as a guy that might get pushed out.

Thank you Vern. You beat me to it. If you guys want to continue to talk about Purdue basketball, that is fine… just get each others emails and have your affair by yourselves.

Drew Adams going to bring Flory with him?

Sorry, but that would be a big NO
You must not have been an IU fan during the Knight/Keady years then? Talking crap with PU fans is burnt in to the fabric of who I am as a college basketball fan. Its been much more difficult lately, but still a worthy endeavor. And they make it a lot easier than it should be these days.

Graduated from IU in ‘89. Talking crap with them is only fun in person. My brother graduated from Purdue.

talking shit with Purdue fans is a pretty big part of being an IU basketball fan... no?
I didn't used to be... Maybe it's more where I grew up, but I remember a time when IU just thought of Purdue when we had to play the annoying little brother. Not as a measuring stick. Kentucky was always the rivals I looked at.

You are correct. Not sure who brought Purdue up. Would have to go back and look

Here's the next level of picking the players that are coming here for the right reasons. Trying to weed through the ones with multi-million dollar asking prices and anticipating which ones won't be changed by the money.

Maybe it's because we were out of state going to IU but UK was thee rival for me, too. I didn't care too much about Purdue.

Is the "we're starting to cook" in reference to their own "calls" on all this? It seems like the 3 follows you listed yesterday, are all connected with each other in some way?

Yes, those three are all connected to each other. I'm not positive of how.

Their follows are interesting...but their calls are less compelling knowing they're connected... to me anyways.

The impression I get is that Igor played for or coached with Coach Knows. Them and Rick are all trying to get into the business of being insiders - they've made no bones about that. That's how I've perceived it, but I don't have any idea if that's right. I know Igor said he's from Illinois and played HS ball in Illinois. I think he played small school ball somewhere. Coach Knows is based out of Chicago, but that's all I know about him. Don't know anything about Rick. But they're all working together so think of the three of them as one newsroom so to speak all bringing different areas of the country together.

Igor has identified IU as his largest and most engaging fanbase so he talks about setting up chats and discords for IU specifically.
