BiG jockeys just passed the finish line for the season. … And it’s a photo finish. (Half Mile positions noted below).
My paramutual ticket for the BiG COTY 1/2 Mile pole was no longer worth the paper it’s printed on.
With Ferentz’ mount breaking stride, all boxed exacta tickets were loser’s at the 3/4 pole.
4. Harbaugh, Michigan — wins by a nose after getting bumped by Tucker’s mount.
— Let go of that Scarlet and Gray bag of lead Buckeyes he was carrying around, as Schembechler’s ghost sent snow coursing through the Big House — classic late season BiG weather.
— run pass balance was too much for Buckeye D.
— Out executed 3 top-tier opposing defenses down the stretch.
— Should finish in the CFP money too
2. Tucker, MSU — (still) easily the most improved squad at the finish line, compared to expectations and perceived talent.
— went 1 - 1 versus PSU and OSU, after beating Michigan at home.
— Got a big pay raise to not coach in ‘Death Valley’.
5. Fleck, Minnesota, got bumped by Illinois after passing Iowa.
— Wrested Paul Bunyan’s Axe from Wisky at home.
— Ran the ball effectively even without Ibrahim.
7. Brohm, Purdue, Made strong stretch run to lose BiG West by tiebreakers.
— Exposed Iowa weaknesses
— Picked O’Connell to whip his mount down the stretch.
— Out of the money
1. Ferentz, Iowa — lead at the half mile pole.
— Broke stride, and got passed by Brohm and Fleck, who did more with less.
— Boilers and Badgers turned this contender into an also ran for COTY.
3. Day, tOSU — struggled to pass the Frosty‘s Cornflakes in Lincoln, and broke stride in the Big House snow.
— Weathered Nittany Lion challenge, but showed red zone weaknesses that weren’t corrected in Lincoln and Ann Arbor.
6. Cryst, Wisconsin — lost pace at the end of the stretch
Our fave jockey (CTA) needed to circle the field, but breezed the final 1/2 mile. Fired the trainer.
