DC Bryant Haines Contract

The contract details state he is making over $2 mil annually. Wow. The university is not kidding when they say they're serious about football. This basically puts him up in the top 10 for assistant coaches and only behind Wink Martindale and Jim Knowles in the B1G.

Bryant Haines Contract Details
Scott and Pam are very serious. We're lucky to have them. Finally an administration who supports football.

I still think it's shitty to agree to a 1.9 million dollar contract, then reopen it with the Penn State leverage to get more. Basically going back on your word within mere weeks.

Cig's the bigger man to handle it gracefully in public.

It's more likely that we preemptively upgraded his contract at our end in order to be certain we kept him...

It seems clear that he can command even more than what we're paying him even with the latest upgrade...

He had the # 2 D in the nation along with the # 1 run D... Nearly every other school out there wants him...

We're lucky* he and his family seem to like it here and that he decided to stay...

*((I say this while retaining my Fans Right of Irrationality - turning on him in a heartbeat if we don't have great games on D against All of our serious Big Ten opponents [and if we don't hold p u to 3 FG's, or less, in the Bucket Game]...)) 😉

🍺😎🍺

Edited: We had the 2nd ranked overall Defense (per the NCAA)...

You signed the new deal, what are you interviewing for? "Yeah Indiana, thanks, you're my fallback position."

I understand interviewing after a year, but not a few weeks. It's BS.

Maybe it was agreed between him and Cig on the first deal I guess. Then I can see it.

I couldnt disagree more. This is standard practice to me. A coach isn't going to want to hinder another coaches career progress. That can create an awful environment. Signing the deal was a formality as was the understanding that either coach could still take new roles. For coaches it's an open market and if the university wants to strengthen their hold on their staff, they pay them enough and structure the buyout so that it makes it hard for them to leave.

The mere fact that Indiana enhanced their positions to keep key assistants & the HC is a tribute to our University wishing to continue Indiana's success in FB. We are now a FB school.
Yes, IU is now a football school as long as faculty doesn't get rid the IU President. It is nice to know IU will do what they need to support football along with other sports.

And I disagree. Sure, IF it was agreed to that the first new deal was a 'formality' and had no teeth, then Cig must have been still working to vet his potential candidates which is important, can't be left with weaker candidates because you're last... If it was signed and agreed to then Cig would've moved on to other important subjects, because for this year, his guy was staying.

So to say "I'm staying", Cig stops any efforts to have another guy on the line, and then a few important weeks later say 'maybe not, Penn State offered more', sucks. But as you and 76 indicate, maybe that's not the way it went down. I sort of assume you're right because Cig seemed OK with it in public.

Of course he wouldn't want to restrict opportunities for his guys. No way, he's in their corner. But that's why signing the first deal mattered, IMO. Until it didn't.

We had all best get used to it...

If we have an 10-1 or better record going into the Bucket Game next November nearly every school in the country will consider attempting to hire them away from us, individually or collectively...

Just the price of success at this level...

Right but my whole point was stating your "if", is already a formality for any assistant coaching contract. That's what nullifies the rest before it even starts.

Indiana is very serious about football. The two times restructuring of Haines' contract in a very short window tells just how serious they are about winning football.
