Current Playoff format

I don't think that's true? I read somewhere before the brackets were set for this year, that the committee wanted to match up IU with OSU instead of Notre Dame & IU said no to that. I don't have a link to back that up, I just remember reading it.
I doubt that is accurate.

Neutral sites could be predetermined before knowing which teams make the playoffs.

You could assign the first round games to those neutral sites based on trying to minimize travel for the teams/fans. It may still lead to quite a bit of traveling but would be a better setup than the current home/away crap.

changing from home to neutral would have more of an effect on scores than altering the selection process because crybaby SEC fans were upset that their 3 loss teams didn't make it.

Yea, scores didn't change much (which is why the crying over blowouts is completely ridiculous) but it's pretty asinine to think that home field doesn't provide an advantage. If it doesn't provide an advantage, then why is it considered a reward for finishing 5-8?
Of course it provides an advantage. Which is one of the reasons you play for a higher seeding. Just like every other sport. Now they need to fix who gets the byes. Which is already being discussed.

Explain how home games lead to blowouts this year, yet ten years of data in a 4-team format at neutral sites delivered nearly the same margin of victory difference.
I am open to being swayed but have not seen this Data. Please show me the data or at least a link.
I was at the nd game and the crowd was deafening.

how so? so those games are priced higher as well?
The low prices are because fan bases aren’t traveling. A teams fan base could theoretically have to travel for 4 games. That ain’t gonna happen. The Peach Bowl tickets are so cheap because Az State and Texas are nowhere near Atlanta. If you want sell out crowds and game energy, you have more home games.

alternatively could assign the neutral sites more effectively.

Georgia vs ND at Peach Bowl
Texas vs ASU at Fiesta Bowl
OSU vs Oregon at Rose Bowl
Penn State vs Boise St at Sugar Bowl

Another way to avoid the mismatches is for teams to improve in the offseason to be competitive in the play-offs.

Even more drastic, you could embrace that seedings aren't an exact science and have matchups based on location

Boise State vs Oregon in Rose Bowl
ASU vs Texas in Fiesta Bowl
ND vs OSU in Sugar Bowl
Penn St vs Georgia in Peach Bowl

Direct me to where in any of the weekly rankings releases that teams being given an option of who they would play was discussed. This is 100% false.
The fact that you didn't answer tells me you don't know any more about this than I do? I don't think I have to prove what I thought I read somewhere. Common sense says that teams probably gave the committee feedback during the scheduling process. In the end, IUs match up with Notre Dame was more interesting to fans than an IU match up with OSU would've been.

Is this a joke? lol

All the machinations that have to be done to get to something more “fair” is exactly why it won’t happen. The prestige bowls are getting a seat at the table. There is not the fluidity for game sites that you have in bball. The Rose Bowl is awesome, but OSU fans have to travel to LA. If they win, they travel again. If they win again, more travel. It’s a small segment of fans who can afford that.
