Please tell me what difference another coach will have at this school. How has that worked here historically. Does that mean they are going to pay more for a coach and staff. Will they finally upgrade the facilities. Does the recruiting become more competitive. Will the commitment by the administration to a top tier football program go in a new direction. Is there a long term game plan here. Has it even been discussed.

They could pay less and get a better coach. But that would mean the administration has the ability to identify up and coming talent, and they likely don't have that ability. They haven't shown it.

Indiana talks big on facilities. Usually happens eventually but years after it should, when finally it becomes so obvious. So, we're not terrible. IU has good facilities where players can train and reach their potential. NIL and coaching needs to make the difference. IU will always run 5-10 years behind in the facility arms race.

Due to the 'identify talent ability' factor not existing, and the fact that Coach Allen wants to be here and has a lot of positive qualities I value for our school and young men - sloppy preparation not withstanding - I'm willing to stay the course.

Swapping out Hiller for Bostad, improved transfer portal performace, Coach Bell some improvement. I'll live with it. Let's see how the season plays out, and hopefully then a really strong transfer portal performance.

Is there any way to obtain or foia the athletic depts budget to assess where it's been stated that new media deal has been spent or accounted for?

Are there coaches buyouts still rolling off?

All other schools had COVID year deficits to make up, I don't see how that unevens the playing field.

A successful head coach at IU MUST win the toss up games. When Allen had success in 2019 and 2020, IU was beating Purdue, Illinois, NW, Nebraska, etc.

Mallory had success in this regard. He regularly beat Kentucky, Purdue, Missouri, NW, etc. Yesterday was the classic toss up game. Indiana wasn't ready in the first half and the hole proved to be too large to overcome.

To answer your question, a head coach such as Kalen Deboer, would potentially win most of these toss up contests. Deboer has the chops to also beat a PSU or Michigan, too.

And how long would a good coach stay here without all the other factors as support.

Tom Allen has reached the point where He is incapable of taking this program to the next level. The Rah Rah Love Each Other window dressing only goes so far. Once it stops working Players know there is no sustance to it and stop listening to the head Coach. In other words, Tom Allen has outlived his shelf life, and his product is stale.
As a fan, the LEO cheerleading is getting old. That said I clearly don't know how that plays with players. In the portal era I would think B1G playing time and NFL-like development would be more important than LEO.

Granted there’s no guarantee of any future success regardless of what kind of coach is brought in…the hot up and comer (Cam Cameron); the experienced guy bringing his whole staff from elsewhere (Mal with some good to great success at NIU, CU and Miami, Hep at Miami); or any Other kind of hire.

But with CTA it’s abundantly clear in year 7 that the constant fire drill on the sidelines, poor in-game management, over the top emotion that’s usually reserved for S&C or Special Teams Coach, revolving door of assistant coaches, changing up of Offensive philosophies with each OC hire, etc isn’t getting it done. While I know they prepare during the week, how much detail is being paid by each position coach? His buddy Hiller was kept around 2
Years too long and had Much to do with the train wrecks that were the IU offenses in ‘21 and ‘22. Bostad was a great hire, but as someone else said, he’s no miracle worker after years of the previous guy’s ineffectiveness. Also, how much accountability do the players pay for when continued miscues, both physically and mentally occur at practice and games? The last few seasons didn’t seem there was much.

Like them or not, Wilson (NU and OU) and Cam (UM) both had been part of successful systems on their way up (albeit neither had a clue about D). TA, on the other hand, was a 1-year DC at USF and a Special Teams coach at a rogue Ole Miss program prior to being named DC for CKW’s last year.

Believe me, no one wants IU and Tom Allen to have success more than I do. But I think in year 7 most can see he’s in over his head.

Good thing we won't have to worry about beating the Mizzo's and KY's of the world anymore. Our toss up games will now be the Idaho State's of the world thanks to our million dollar buyout. The sad part is they will actually be toss up games.

Will our AD change making a new coach pay to fire and OC or pay to bring in an OC like coach Allen has had to do? There are many more problems than just coach Allen and I don't see IU wanting to change those issues. IU and fans show in many ways football isn't important to them and you have to wonder what coach would come in with IU having that reputation.

I thought the facilities were upgraded. The stadium, the weight room ...

The weight room was upgraded several years ago from what it was but it was open to all athletic teams and still not up to par compared with other teams. Also needed are a new indoor facility, turf redo, press box, etc. Many improvements needed from a fan stand point previously discussed. The SEZ was apparently scaled back not to include regular seating.

I am thinking that after the way Georgia played in the first half against South Carolina or the way Bama played against USF or even Florida played in the second half against against Tennessee we must have a shot at getting Napier, Smart or Saban.
Palmbeachhoosier, posters don't want to be confused by top coaches teams not coming out in the 1st half or losing against teams they didn't lost to in the past. I have some concerns about Coach Allen in the new B1G but 1st half lulls isn't one of the reasons. I have more conerns about IU's athletic administration than I do about coach Allen.

What is everyone’s opinion on how many games we must win this year for Allen to keep his job?
I know all about the huge buyout but if we go 3-9 or 4-8 they have to make a change, right?
And they do have the money, they just choose to not spend it on football.

If he doesn't win at least 5 or maybe 6, I think all enthusiasm toward the program will dry up if they don't make a change. If he only wins 4, that's 2 wins in the big ten again. How can they keep him around after 4 conference wins in 3 years?

Coulda had Prime
He would have been worth every penny of CTA’s buyout.

I don’t understand what has changed from pre season? OSU was going to be a L. ISU was a W. UL was a 50/50 game. It’s played out exactly like most thought it would. I don’t think anyone was expecting a CFP team or even a NY6 game. Let the season play out, I’m sure we haven’t lost our last game or even after Saturday, won our last either.

I think we are stuck with Walt Bell for as long as we have Tom Allen. Being realistic, after this year there is a $20 million buyout on Allen's contract. They are not going to get rid of him. So we will have him for the 2024 season and then the buyout becomes more manageable. So if we fire Walt Bell after this year, who in their right mind would come here as an offensive coordinator to join the staff of a coach who is essentially dead man walking and its a one year job.

I would love to know the real story of what went on that Allen paid to fire Sheridan. It sounds far too ridiculous for even IU to make one coach pay to fire another. Would love to know what backstory on that was. Maybe Allen was told he had a pool of salary money for entire staff and Dolson told him to figure it out when Allen said he wanted to fire and replace so Allen reallocated some of his $ to buyout of old OC for new OC

I like the stadium. Sure, it's not the Big House, the Horseshoe and Happy Valley. But I would rather fill what we have instead of putting up some 80,000-seat house and have it filled halfway.

Add to that: how was Hiller able to keep his job into the fifth game of last year? It was not like the performance fell off.

Your last sentence, that is just about what Corso said sometime
back.

You have a much stronger outlook than I.

Good point . 40,000 in an 80,000 seat stadium would look bad.

I've never been sure Hep would have been successful long-term. But better than Allen for sure
We’ll never know what Coach Hoeppner might have accomplished but his initial enthusiasm pointed us in the right direction. He had a likable personality, one we thought others would want to play for but he wasn’t here long enough to know how good he was at the X’s and O’s of the game itself, the on-field decision making. That long field goal to win the bucket following his death with his widow on the sideline was a special moment, one of the more exhilarating bucket victories, probably second only to ‘67 for the Rose Bowl berth.
