what makes you think he's not tough enough? He needs to get a lot tougher IMO.
IMO, I don't think his physical or mental toughness is an issue as he hasn't been injured and has shown he is willing to run the ball into defenders and take a hit after a throw. He has the size, arm strength and legs to be a solid QB at this level. I would even say he has shown some good touch on his passes this year, yet the sample size is still limited. He needs to get a lot tougher IMO.
Love ARE...just want someone outside...it's not necessarily the right sentiment...but I'm not happy with our track record, FB or BB, in reengaging former players.Bringing ARE home would be cool. Finally give him a chance to win at IU.
I was only being half serious, but if Cig thought it would work I'd love it.Love ARE...just want someone outside...it's not necessarily the right sentiment...but I'm not happy with our track record, FB or BB, in reengaging former players.
Maybe intensity is a better word.IMO, I don't think his physical or mental toughness is an issue as he hasn't been injured and has shown he is willing to run the ball into defenders and take a hit after a throw. There are certainly nuances of the QB position and a natural progression of reading defenses that he can improve upon and based on where he was this year vs. last year, he seems to be doing just that.
If there is a player who is a proven upgrade, I get why the staff would go after them but if its merely a middle of the road B1G QB, I am good with sticking with the guys we have. We have a solid foundation of players who are growing within the system. The end goal is to always have a QB in the wings who has a few years in the system, under his belt.
Precisely! Earn the job.All you have to do is listen to the coaches to understand the issue they have with TJ. I don’t think they have ever questioned his toughness or skill. At least not that I have heard. The issue that they see that we may not is his ability to read defenses and check out of a play, or not always sending motion when he is expected to. His issues are more in the details and processing. I say it’s up to TJ to seal up the job or sit another year behind a transfer. He needs to take an even more serious approach to film study in the off season. If he can correct some of the mental mistakes he has the ability to be very good. It comes down to his preparation habits. if he excels in that area going forward his teammates will embrace him as a leader which will help him earn the respect from the coaches and ultimately the starting job.
