The Cavs have gone to the NBA Finals with only LeBron more than once. LeBron is going to need at least one healthy Love or Irving to win a title. But, LeBron is all you need to get out of the Eastern Conference.
Why would Durant leave Oklahoma City for Boston? To play with Marcus Smart (he averages like 9 a game!), Olynyk (not even close to a superstar: he sure can injure them, though) and a rookie on a playoff bubble team in the East? Not exactly a Pierce and Rondo scenario. The Thunder are in third place in the Western Conference at 23-10, and Durant has made it to the NBA Finals there: the Thunder are a contender right now. Russell Westbrook is on the Thunder, and KD has a solid supporting cast there. KD going to Boston would be a huge step backwards, and it takes a total Boston homer to think this is possible.
Once again, the NBA is a player's league. There is literally no advantage derived from a coaching battle in the NBA. Either you have LeBron or Jordan or you do not.
Timing is not an issue. A sale needs to be made, but timing doesn't affect the possibility of a sale.
