Protege? Crean hired him and was only with him 1 season at Marquette. He was the beneficiary of good timing with Crean leaving for IU after that season, though.
Considering the way the IU Admins and BOT have mishandled this gig and hires over the last 20 years, Buzz Williams would be an upgrade. Style of play offensively is a bit of a concern, but seldom are his teams out hustled, look unprepared or lack competitive drive, which have been hallmarks of IU teams of the last 2 tenures.
During his career his average conference finish is around 6th. No thanks.
Great fit. Don’t sleep on Holtman at DePaul either. Can’t believe Dolson wouldn’t walk across broken glass for a meeting with Thad Matta.

Buzz Williams, Brad Bronnell, Holtman- all are 2nd tier on the radar. That's my opinion but I don't see any way any of those guys wins a National Championship, period.
There have been a lot of guys that are good coaches, not great coaches. Jim Larranaga, Lon Kruger, Phil Martelli....
I don't disparage them, I just want IUs next coach to be in the same realm as Curt Cigneti, Todd Yeagley, and Teri Moren. Coaches who simply generate consistent buzz and success and put the program in a position to win big, not just compete.
