For you finance guys, what are you looking for to signal the bottom?

I'm thinking when Jim Cromer moves from the self-flagellation stage to self-immolation and/or threatening to jump from a Manhattan skyscraper we will be pretty close to the bottom?

I did my taxes this weekend and I have always taken the opportunity to contribute the max to an IRA at tax time. I have until April 15th to do so. I couldn't see the logic in doing it right now. If we have 2-3 days in a row that are flat, SOON, maybe I will jump on it.

I saw some articles yesterday predicting today would be comparable to Black Monday from 1987, what happened? Not that it ain’t bad, but nowhere near that(yet😬)…

From the little I've read historic indicators suggest a fair valuation of around 3,000 for the S&P. I'm thinking I would start dollar cost averaging at that point. Granted, markets can overshoot in both directions so that may not be the exact bottom. Now we may not reach 3,000. But I'm not willing to overpay. Sounds like emerging and international is more on the discount aisle.

Dollars are debasing somewhere between 7-9% annually. You're losing purchasing power if you're sitting in cash or treasuries long term.

Toasted, you’re not a dumb fella.

I don’t think it’s incredibly wise to wait for the 3,000 S&P. That was back in 2019. Could it happen? I guess…

I started buying some more this afternoon. So figure another 20% crash from here.

Which part do I need to pay attention to?

3,000 would be historic fair value imo based on the little reading I've done. It can also overshoot to the downside. This isn't a prediction. Just an opinion. The Japs stock exchange didn't make a new high for 40 years. Not sure how many years on total return basis. People think stocks only go in 1 direction.

I'm looking to buy Brazil on a crash. I don't have a theory but seems underpriced on a relative basis and a basket of commodities.

Three weeks ago, I raised some cash. I may buy what I sold this week if things settle down. At age 69 I don't have a lot of options but being a triple dipper has its advantages.
