Brad Stevens

5 mil a year for 10 years and BS will be in Bloomington as the next coach. But that will not happen and we all know it. If and I say a big if TC gets shown the door after this season Glass better throw everything he can at BS and know without reservation BS simply was not interested before moving to choice number 2. In my opinion getting BS is no more of a reach than is TC being shown the door after this season. I know some think he is gone but my gut says he will be here again next season. Damn shame but Glass has no ballz and hates to admit he screwed the pooch with the extension and the hire in the first place.

You don't low ball a guy like Stevens with a $3.6/year type deal. You offer him your absolute best. $6M/year for ten years. If he says no, then you immediately move on. While I think Stevens is as close to a slam dunk as there is out there, he's not the only one that's capable of putting IU into a serious position to compete at the highest levels consistently.

We'll have plenty of good choices when Crean is axed. No need to get all worked up if we miss on Stevens. He would build a dynasty here though.

Sure did and no Duke isn't that good. We have just as much talent as they do. Again, you didn't address my point that we have the most patient fan base in the country. Would any other top 10 program have given Mike Davis 6 years and TC 8? The answer isn't no. It is hell no and you know it.
How do we have as much talent as Duke because they have 8 McDonald's AA and we have 3

why would ANY coach want to follow K at Duke. talk about a long shadow. He is the only draw to that program - horrid facilities, small fanbase, not nearly the money IU has and supposed high entry standards. no thanks

He gets that it's a pipedream?

5.6 mil for 7 years + buying out his contract with the Celtics + paying Crean for the next several years sounds like a reasonable expectation to me. And that's assuming that Stevens even has interest to begin with.
Creans buyout is spread out over the next 5 years. Also if he gets another job it offsets what we owe him so not really that big of a deal.

I'm hoping the Celtics miss the playoffs!

At the kind of money top coaches are making now, I think ego... accomplishments mean more than the money. If true, we'd be better off hoping the Celtics win it all so Brad can check the box then move back to the farm and the relaxing life of an IU head coach.

Facts suggest differently. I just don't know that the fanbase has been all that patient with Crean and Davis anymore than UK was with Tubby.

Gillespie had issues far past basketball. I doubt he would of lasted at any power conference team at that time. He couldn't even last at Texas Tech afterward as more issues resurfaced among player transfers. He doesn't even belong in this conversation. I'd compare Gillespie to the USC football coach. How long would IU keep a coach who was struggling with alcohol abuse. Don't even compare that to the recent player issues Crean has had. It is not the same.

Tubby hung a banner with leftovers from the Pitino recruiting. Then he went 9 years with no final Fours. 9 Years! IMO, Tubby is a much better coach than Crean or Davis but still he got a decade before he resigned due to the pressure of no final 4's.

Crean and Davis took over bad situations. Davis had Knights's team earl;y on but the the situation was volatile. I do wonder how good those initial teams could have been with Knight but still Davis was probably key in keeping that team from imploding. After the title game run, I think the fanbase was pretty critical of him as a coach and he didn't last. Well we all know the Crean thing but how do you fire him after the 2 Cody Sweet 16 runs. He seemingly had the program back on track. Still the fanbase pressure started mounting after that last cody team lost. It was number 1 seed that under performed.

It seems that about 3-4 years of bad performances at a top program or a major scandal is the norm at elite schools. Maybe most power conference schools. UNC had Doherty take over a number 1 team. He got a good 3 poor years immediately in before they let him go. Davis was 4 years after the title game. This looks like it could be Crean's 3rd poor year after the Cody teams and it seems most expects this year is it. Of course there is still a lot of basketball to be played this year.

Tubby might have not gotten back to the final four but he went to numerous sweet 16's and elite 8's

For those suggesting throwing a Brinks truck at BS, you don't understand what motivates him. Money is not what drives him.

Thats the only move IU has.

It's either that, or don't try at all.

They have no chance offering the same money he is making in Boston.

OK. He still got 9 years. I'd venture to say if Crean started a 9 year run of numerous Sweet 16's with the 2 he had with Cody and there were no Final Four appearances that after those 9 seasons he would likely start feeling pressure from IU fans. Instead it appears the team peaked and fanbase pressure really kicked in the year after when they went to no post season. I just think unless you win be it at IU or UK there will be big pressure. I don't think that would stop Stevens from going to UK.

If it isn't money, then what is it?

It certainly isn't pride in a job well done.

Not sure what you mean by "isn't pride in a job well done"? He wanted to test himself at the highest level, against the best. He holds the NBA in high regard, clearly. I see that as his future, either with the Celtics or elsewhere.

Everyone told UM the same thing one year ago and now Jim Harbaugh is going to be there for a long time.

There is a HUGE difference in the situation Harbaugh was in at Frisco and the one Stevens has with Boston. Ainge LOVES BS and Harbaugh had worn his GM and owner out. UM beat Oakland out for Harbaugh.

You need to take your proof of this wrongdoing and alert the NCAA. Anybody been choked in Blomington lately?

Hmm...now which school has been on probation most recently and which school has had all the off the court issue most recently? Jealous much?
Not jealous at all and I would rather lose every game played than have Calapari as our coach. To me Stevens is not the type of coach who will want to go to a place where it is win at all cost and have fans who don't care how you win as long as you win.

Kelvin Sampson ring a bell? I would think he would be more interested in going to a school that has been to 4 of the past 5 final fours and won a championship in the recent era instead of a school that cuts down nets after a loss and hasn't won a champions ship since Chuck Taylors and short shorts.

I never wanted him as our coach and we actually fired him after he got in trouble but if he was at UK and was winning you guys would have turned your back and kept him.

Kentucky will have all kinds of sanctions attached to it.
Which school was on probation last? IU or UK? 1989 was a loooong time ago. Which school has more roster turnover, interestingly enough it's not the one where kids are leaving to earn money. Which one constantly has players in the news for breaking laws, running over teamates in cars, etc? No I'm afraid Stevens doesn't want that tainted brush.
