Booker

that's what I'd say: we're doing OK but I'd still imagine one with Cardale Jones, a Shottenstein and Urban Myer is probably able to pull together bigger deals than HH. I'd love to see some bigger name boosters associated with IU and their NIL approach. Think Mark Cuban's support would hold sway with many bball recruits?

You mean like NIL partnership that Cuban's company just announced with Indiana?

It just feels a bit haphazard. I know IU is promoting that we are doing well, but I don't feel like we have the support system built like OSU did with their foundation. I know IU is touting that we're doing well, but I don't see that as the most reliable source. Much of the NIL stuff I hear about surrounds Hoosiers for Good, Cav or the Hoosier Hysterics, and that doesn't feel like a comprehensive approach.
Actually, I think we're leading in the approach. Results may be lagging for all I know, but I posted this about a month ago and assume it to be true. (All from a basketball based POV)

Just listened to Kristi Dosh being interviewed. She writes about the business of college sports for Forbes. Some interesting tidbits.

Most schools have 1 or 2 of either the marketplace, charity or straight donation based collectives. We have all 3.

She said fewer than 5 (the last number she saw was 3) of the charity based collectives have federal 501c3 status.

Cuban is involved now. IU is doing well in NIL.

I'd guess for a few kids, it will be primarily about the NIL deals, but so far, at least to a total outsider, it seems that IU is at least OK in that department and it sounds like PU is helping us by being more inept than we appear to be maybe. OSU to me seems to have the biggest and best structure from what I've read, but it's also possible other schools just haven't had it publicized.

But, I would think the coaches still are the single biggest factor in recruiting and will continue to be. Smart coaches will be trying to insure they have the best NIL deals for their players too. In this particular recruitment, I have no idea how we compare to MSU; do they have a good NIL arrangement (and I realize it's hard to say because any single booster could work a deal with a particular player that no one would be aware of in advance)?
I just saw an article that OSU is having a hard time getting sponsors (money)for their collective.

The Cuban thing with the apparel site isn't exclusive to IU though. That's going to go wide and encompass as many schools as possible. I would imagine IU's involvement with it is a favor to Mark for all the other things he's done so he can point to another big school as they try to sign more schools. Right now, it's just us and Illinois.

As a junior, Booker took official visits to Indiana, Kansas State, Michigan State, and Purdue. According to Jamie Shaw (On3 recruiting insider), Duke, Notre Dame, Texas, and Ohio State are schools Booker would like to visit.

Xavier Booker plans to take an unofficial visit to Indiana next week. Is there any significance to his visit?

What is the deal with Queen & Booker?

Queen is an interesting prospect. Ranked very high in the 2024 class. Is really good around the basket, has good touch on his jump shot, and really is just a very fundamentally sound basketball player. Big, strong body and frame but not the bounciest or greatest athlete in the world. A college weight and conditioning program would do him wonders.

Yes. Been hearing the reclassification of Queen is something to watch. This just means Booker likes indiana.
Next year we will have two available scholarships with Trayce Jackson Davis leaving for the pros and one open spot. I can’t imagine that we get Booker and Queen. Is this a situation where we get the first one to commit?

Xavier Booker PF 6-11 215lbs 2023
Derik Queen PF 6-8 245lbs 2024 (possible reclassification)

Reminds me of a Zach Randolph.

I think that’s the feeling I get. I believe Queen is 6’9” now. I believe it will be a 4-5 man class.

Most of us would want booth. Really like paint players like Queen. Booker for sure doesn't lack BB talent but his reported lazy?/questionable effort?/lack of competitive heart? play at times bugs his interest out of me. That attitude is just BS. I suspect Coach Woodson would zero in on that as priority #1. Go HOOSIERS

1. We have two already coming in, Cups and Newton. 2. I think there will be at least four open scholarships, maybe more (Davis, Johnson, Thompson, Kopp for sure gone). That does leave two scholarships left. There seem to be planty of wingss on the roster next year, guards too. That means big men are needed. No reason why Booker and Queen couldn't both come, but I suspect both won't because of Reneau, they may think not enough PT available and since both are highly rated, they can choose a program where each could be a big dog with a lot of PT. Woodson and crew also seem very interested in Coen Carr. So i would predict that there will be the four for sure leaving and perhaps one more player tranferring at the end of the season due to lack of PT. Just a guess.

We will have at least 4. Trayce (unless he shocks us all again and uses covid year), and then Race, X and Kopp out of eligibilty aftrt this year

He’s including 2 we already have filled. So that leaves 2 unfilled. Total of 4. Might get a 5th because of a transfer.
