Book banning that suspiciously looks like what all the snowflakes are worried about

ImI’m the kind of teacher that everyone requested to be in my class. I had families where I’d have all four of the children. And the large majority of parents had zero idea of my politics. In elementary school? CRT has nothing to do with what we do. And I’m pretty glad I didn’t have your children. You’re the type of parent we’d all complain about trying to interpret celebrating MLK Day as teaching CRT.
Except I understand CRT....

The most intelligent highly qualified high school graduates mostly don’t go into teaching. Until the pay changes that won’t change. The best teachers ignore the pay issues and go into teaching because it’s their passion. It’s not hard to identify them in local grade schools and high schools. Unfortunately many teachers are average to poor. They are easy to identify in local schools.
You know something that’s really interesting? People always want to complain about schools who have no kids in school other people’s schools. When schools do surveys, or outside companies, overwhelmingly parents like and support the school their children attend. Because they actually know and understand what’s going on in the school, not some vague concept .

Good teachers are grossly underpaid in my opinion. I’ve never understood teachers fighting being paid based on performance. Their argument to me is mostly they don’t trust administrators to apply it fairly.
Because it’s really difficult to find a measure to judge that. If they did it with test score improvement, that would be one thing, but it’s usually just basic test scores, which can never been fair. I always had the challenged kids who made lots of improvements, but didn’t test as high as those without issues.

Ps I didn’t post anything last summer. PSS. My racial views come from teaching in an urban school, from having a boyfriend of color for ten years and still being close, and from having many friends of color. I mostly relay where I hear from them. And then I sit back and laugh at all the white guys telling me how wrong I am. Even let a couple of my friends read the threads to laugh with me.
Translation: Some of my best friends are black.

I would definitely have been a teacher if the pay was even close to being decent. My mom was a teacher and got paid peanuts for teaching classes of 35 kids, and they didn't have 'teachers aids' back then.
What’s a teacher’s aide? I never had one either. Not many do, at least in school systems that struggle with funds.

I don't think it's as much about the pay as it is not wanting to put up with all the bullshit from all sides.
Yup because what other profession gets discussed, complained about and judged from people whose only qualification is they went to school and their kids do. But everyone thinks they are experts in the best way to teach. I fortunately did not have parents like this and had zero parental issues and nothing but support. From the people who actually matter.
So can we have a long thread about attorneys, doctors, IT, HVAC, or really any other profession where we all pretend to know better than those trained to do the job?

Why? We effectively evaluate performance in nearly every other occupation, including college instructors. Why can’t we do the same with K-12 teachers?
I think that could happen, but it would put a lot of pressure on the principal if his/her evaluation determined salary. Maybe a base salary, with possible bonuses, a combination of tests and evaluation. Also if teacher wanted to dispute evaluation , she/he could request a second from another person, in a case of personal conflict. And stoll is right in that everyone does know who the good teachers and bad teachers are in the community.

Didn't meant to imply it was taught in grade school. As for your posts I read them. As far out in fantasyland as The Squad....
Got it. I know all you white guys are indeed the experts on racial issues and people of color should shut up and not have an opinion, amirite? Because you know their experience better than they do.

Just saw a list pertinent to this discussion: worried about transparency? Check your kids backpack, go to conferences, volunteer in the classroom, go to PTA meetings, attend school functions and board meetings. Pretty simple.

Some of us white guys have a bit of experience with these issues

You mean, instead of getting information on what is happening in your schools from a facebook post from Tennessee?
🤔

Can you think of any fair way to compensate teacher more based on performance? For years my high school was filled with ex varsity basketball coaches who the school had fired. Most were awful teachers.

My algebra and geometry teacher Mr Earles was fantastic. Most of the kids made fun of him. Big think rimmed black glasses. He was very dry in class. graduation I would go back and just set with him and talk. He loved sports and I’d sit with at different events and talk. When I got to where I understood the pay system it made me angry how underpaid he was compared to those coaches that were just putting in their time until another coaching offer came.

Maybe the biggest injustice was done to my old grade school teachers. When I ended up back home I prepared many of their returns. Their teachers’ pensions were a crime.

Oh for Pete’s sake. Robin DiAngelo is white and she is full of crap.

My old school North Daviess have many. In fact my young daughter in law just got Covid from her aide.

It it is taught in elementary school. There are many books about white privilege written for young minds designed to get those kids thinking skin color at very early ages. The kids subject to this curriculum will have racial consciousness and sins of the past imbedded forever.

My evaluations of my employees determines their promotions, bonuses or no bonuses every year. This isn’t a new thing. The most important part of the process are the quarterly discussions with them about how I see their performance and how they see their own. No one is surprised by their annual appraisal if the communication is good.

Don’t be silly. We all know that white liberals are the experts in all racial issues - much more expert than any minorities are.

That's the head scratcher. We all know (knew) who was good and who was just mailing it in. But what can you do with that knowledge? Fire the poor ones? I dunno, not everyone can be above average. And can you distill the qualities of the good ones down to their essense, so you know what to look for and who to recruit when hiring?

My dad said you'd be lucky if you counted the good teachers you had on more than one hand. He was a pretty smart ol' bastage.

Can you provide specific examples of these books and which classrooms they are being taught in? THis could be some breaking news.

Also, how is what you described CRT?

Well hell no you can't fire them - they belong to a Union!

You know - the ones supported by Democrats. They're also why the good ones can't be paid any more than the bad ones. But keep voting for mediocrity.

I just scanned their posts in this thread and found no specific examples by either of them of CRT being taught in elementary schools. Can you point me in that direction?
I'm too stupid to know how. It was in other threads. And no I don't think it was in grade schools. High schools. If you are referring exclusively to grade schools I misunderstood. I can't imagine that's occurring.

That’s what they think. I think she got it from her aide.

Mainly they’re pissed at me.

LOL. So her teacher's aid has Covid, she has Covid, he has Covid, and they got it from the vaccine?

You know what? This is an example of why some people don't have a good impression of teachers. That's some high level stupidity there. I'm not sure I'd want some like that teaching my kids.

That’s not CRT. Of course there are many books about that. And sorry, but they should have racial consciousness and sins of the past imbedded forever. Just like sex education, depends how it’s taught and when .

Crazy timing after all these months. Months of being around many folks including her school kids, her parents and her sisters all with Covid and bam they get Covid after he gets the shots.

My sis’s best friend is mom of the teachers aide. My sis just told me about the aide this weekend. Son and wife didn’t.

You must not have taught for years.
Haha. This just shows how much you know about education. Sure all classrooms have teachers’ aides, sure they do. In Carmel, maybe. In struggling school districts? Good luck with that. Any aides anyone has right now are being pulled to sub every day. Special education classrooms often have aides but not many others in lots of districts.
