I was checking for rooms for Illinois weekend and boy have the businesses learned supply and demand. The Graduate is $1300 per night. Travelodge is $400+ with a two night minimum. When do we get like Tuscaloosa make it to a 3-night minimum? For now, Airbnb rentals have not caught up.

There has to be a limit to this. $1,300 per night? For $2,600 for two nights, I could pay for a week Beachside somewhere and make a nice vacation out of it. What will probably happen is that it will push those people traveling from longer distances Who don't feel the need to be in town all weekend to outlying areas Columbus, Martinsville, Brown County and McComick's Creek State Parks, South Side of Indy and South Suburbs, and even as far West as Terre Haute. Heck, if I could get a Cabin Rental at Brown County State Park for $500 to $700 total for 3 nights, I would consider that option.

Good news on the AirBnBs — that really helps when demand gets sky high in a small town.

As IUFB grows, everything is going to get more expensive and tougher to get — tickets, parking, lodging, and reservations. Some people will get annoyed, but this is what a bigger FB program looks like and hopefully the era of quite home game Saturdays is gone.

Hopefully this will incentivize the construction of new hotels in Bloomington.
I thought about that as I made my initial post. The question is will there be sufficient occupancy and revenue through other times of the year to make a Profit? You have 7 or 8 Football weekends and Graduation Weekend where You can charge maximum rate. During the Summer Months, You have fewer Students on Campus for Summer Session, so there are fewer "Parent visits". The University offers fewer programs during the Summer that would attract Conference Attendees or Business Travelers. You do get some Summer Tourism business, but I'm not sure that is enough to get the occupancy rate to where You need it to make a Profit for the Year.

There are two new hotels in the works. One approved at the Trades District and another proposed as part of the convention center expansion. A boutique hotel at the SE corner of Kirkwood and Washington will open later this year.
