Sorry to hear this. Those breakwalls are unforgiving....Yup. Not to stray too far off topic. Bob's brother. He was a passenger. Driver survived and isn't talking to anybody....

The price ceiling is being continually move up and up, as brewers realize that they'll still sell at higher price points. Speaking about 18th St - their stuff is getting pricey. Grapefruit Dead is being released this Saturday - $22 for a 4-pack of 12 oz cans....Find it odd that too many get price resistant at $10 for say a 11 or 12% abv specialty beer, but a $10 glass of wine (maybe 5-6 oz pour) is so commonplace nobody thinks twice. And that's often not ever that good of wine.
I got the idea from that leconte was paying upwards of $10 for a 5oz pour. Maybe I'm wrong....if he was only paying $5 or $6....well quit your bitchin'!
How's this for a beer evening .....
An excellent hefeweizen .....
..... backed up by a phenomenal chile stout (thanks to @PtownHoosier and @Hoops Cat for the bump on this magnificent style) .....
This is - by FAR - my favorite thread on this board. I'd hang out with all of you any day.
You inspired my selection for the evening. Pipeworks Chipotle Smoked Porter. Good. Not great. How's this for a beer evening .....

I will say in the last 6 months we have seen more Three Floyds in Bloomington than we have in the last 2 years. Most stores used to only sale 2 bottles of zombie dust at a time, now you can get 6 packs of it at least once a week.@Hoops Cat What's the deal with Three Floyds? This brewery has all but disappeared on draft and in most liquor stores near me in the Fort. Used to be everywhere. My preferred stores carry nothing from them at all and when I once asked why the guy just said something like "some things aren't worth the trouble." Places that used to have Three Floyd's taps all the time no longer have it. Nothing.
Are they assholes or something?
$6. I'm bitching...but I'd go back and pay the same price for KBS. In fact I may head back tonight if it's still on tap.Find it odd that too many get price resistant at $10 for say a 11 or 12% abv specialty beer, but a $10 glass of wine (maybe 5-6 oz pour) is so commonplace nobody thinks twice. Cassian Sunset is world-class.You're WINNING. King Sue, bitches.
I went to a tap takeover at my local. They had a Central Waters tap takeover. I had a porter with maple syrup from a firkin and Cassian Sunset. The porter was very solid. Cassian though, what a great beer. I think I mentioned it here a couple months ago when I had it in the Dells. Bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout with chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon, and clocking in at 11%. A damn tasty beverage. Fortunately I have a bottle left in the beer fridge.
How could Guy not try a beer whilst at Surly??? They represented the brewpub experience well, but the first, second, and eighth reason people go to Surly is for the beer. Thanks to @ovaltine for the heads up on Poochie's DDD episode on Surly. I forgot to record it but watched it on demand tonight. Surly has been one of my favorite breweries since O started sending it to me several years ago, but now I need to visit fo sho. The food looked almost as good as the beer. Hopefully I'll make this happen in December when I fly in for my cousin's wedding.
Of course but he said that it was obvious that people primarily went for the beer. Still. If you're going to Surly, I agree with you. How do you not talk about the beer? How could Guy not try a beer whilst at Surly??? When one of the patrons was talking, you could see the tap list in the background. Pentagram was on tap. How could he not try Pentagram, ON TAP???!!!???Of course but he said that it was obvious that people primarily went for the beer. Still. If you're going to Surly, I agree with you. But it's Poochie. He's more interested in stickinghis fingers in shit to taste it than in anything else.
I can't imagine that dude would dig a complex sour. Hell or 'Merican though? Yes.When one of the patrons was talking, you could see the tap list in the background. Pentagram was on tap. How could he not try Pentagram, ON TAP???!!!???
Stupid f*#king food show ..........................
I've been there. Awesome place - had my first beer from Maine Beer Co. whilst visiting.I can't imagine that dude would dig a complex sour. Hell or 'Merican though? Yes.
Hopleaf in Chicago had Pentagram on tap a couple years ago. Yes, it was tremendous.
Damn. I had one last night. It's excellent, but to me BWB is bigger, more complex, and "better". Have you had Revolution Grave Digger Billy or Thirsty Dog Wulver yet? Those are other phenomenal bourbon barrel aged Scotch ales you would love.I like this better than Backwoods Bastard. That is not a typo. Central Waters is a significantly underrated brewery, IMHO.
I liked the caramel and toffee flavors in the CW version vs the bourbon and vanilla I remember from BWB. Of course, this is like arguing whether the '27 Yankees or '76 Reds are the greatest ever - both are awesome.Damn. I had one last night. So sounds like lunch at Surly Saturday December 9 will work, or drinks that Sunday afternoon. Hell yes.

You realize we're going to hit Surly in December when Darkness AND Abrasive are on tap? I need to start hydrating now.
Hmmm. I've had 15 of their top 50, but Vallejo at #11 is the highest. I agree it's become one of my gotos, but I'm still surprised that it's as high as it is. Alpine Duet is very good and was just released in 4 packs here. I'll have to revisit it. Alpine is owned by Green Flash now, which is why their distribution has increased significantly lately.Did anybody see the ranking of top IPA's? It looks interesting -- I've only had a few of the beers on this list, and looks like there are some new ones I need to try out...

This list is suspect. Just had some fresh Duet last month & it was good, but nowhere near top 15.
Hop Hunter isn't in my Top 500. It's a nice beer, but it's not better than Racer 5. That's silliness.Hmmm. I've had 15 of their top 50, but Vallejo at #11 is the highest. I just picked up some FW Luponic Distortion. That's a damn tasty beverage as well, and I can't disagree too strongly with the other ones I've had other than I'd put Two Hearted and Todd the Axeman significantly higher. Honestly I thought that would have been top 10. Hop Hunter isn't in my top 100. Blind Pig, Citra Hero and Pernicious (Wicked Weed), I don't have a problem with, or the others I haven't mentioned.
I'm a bit surprised that Deshutes Fresh Squeezed and Revolution Anti Hero aren't in the top 50. I love both of them.
I'm sure you're correct but like I said I haven't had any of the supposed top 10 so I can't really say. Plus some of the best ipas from the Midwest are classified as pale ales by the brewers so they don't count. Kind of tough when you can't count Pseudo Sue, Zombie Dust, and Alpha King which are really IPAs in my opinion. Still, of these I would only put Sue in the top 50.Hop Hunter isn't in my Top 500. It's a nice beer, but it's not better than Racer 5. That's silliness.
The problem with rating IPA's is freshness. I've had 3-day-old Surly Furious that would make you wanna punch a puppy it was so good. Something 60 days old, OTOH, is an entirely different story.
There was also a decidedly East Coast slant to that list, especially at the top end. I don't think that accurately reflects the best IPA's, IMHO.
I thought Molotov Cocktail was a booze bomb. Molotov Lite was better, IMHO.In fairness, the rankings did point out that freshness has a lot to do with how a beer tastes. In any case, it keeps us talking about great beers, and that's a great thing. By the way I had a Molotov Cocktail tonight...not bad but didn't live up to the hype. Todd The Axe Man is high in my next up list
As I've mentioned in this thread a couple times, that beer is tremendous. I have one or two left that I might save for Christmas. With the cinnamon and chocolate it's a perfect holiday beer. This is my jam tonight. This beer is world-class, IMHO. If they brewed it year-round, I'd have to take out a small business loan. Drink well, beer nerds.

My buddy wanted me to ask everyone on here if any one wanted to do a trade of Founders KBS six pack for something from three floyds? Thanks
I've had it. When I had it, it was the #1 beer in the world (per Beer Advocate). I didn't rate it as such, but it's a very good beer. The Alchemist also added a 2nd beer to their lineup (Focal Banger) that's supposed to be fantastic, too.Has anyone here ever actually had Heady Topper? I may have asked before, but I've drank a lot of beer since then.
I'm debating if worth a significant detour during a trip to the NE this fall.
