His defensive presence alone should earn him more respect from everyone. And despite his erratic style, he’s actually pretty reliable with the ball. For a team that has literally 1 reliable ball handler without X, and really no good on the ball defenders without him… adding just 1 more guard couldn’t possibly cover up our need to have him healthy.
Auburn was 14-29 from 3. IU was 6-17. That is a 24 point difference.
IU gets spanked when they play really athletic teams that are good on offense (shooting, creating shots) and have good players spots 1-3.

They have tournament exits with the player of the year by double digit seeds. If Alabama played even our defense today they would’ve lost.

Auburn went 35-72 from the field, IU went 24-56. They attempted 16 more shots and made 11 more field goals. Clear difference in offensive output.
Our best talent is basically freshman or players with part-time floor experience. Ware was a huge disappointment last year and basically a freshman this year in regards to development. It's going to take games for this team to get better and consistent. The bright spot is that IMO it's a different inconsistency. Woody's no savior yet but Miller's team would have lost that UM game by 15 in the last 4 minutes.

If you look at the guard play today and look at what X has brought in several games in the past - and you say that X couldn’t potentially help - you aren’t being objective. He hasn’t delivered every game, but he has had several outstanding games. So his ceiling is much higher than any of the guards that played today. I’ll take my chances with X running the team vs Cupps as a freshman. Any day.
NIL and portal changes everything now. Not the same. Crean was a clown had 3-4 years to develop talent and couldn't coach them past a zone defense designed 40 years ago. Took Crean 5 years to get to the tourney.

After KU there is a chance we will be at a negative point differential vs opponents season to date. That would have a substantial NET impact if the losses weren’t capped at 10 pts.

What X brings is one of rhe best on ball defenders in the league and solid ball management.
No one benefits more today from X’s absence than Johnson.

The problem is he's played in about 15% of the games the past 2 years: he isn't reliable.
We'll see after 3-4 years on the job. If nothing, I'm good with somebody else. However, if you want Painter results, Crean is available somewhere.

Woody appears to want to run an offense that emphasizes post play and spots 1-3 that can create their own shot. Fine by me. Problem is, he hasn't recruited the 1-3 spots that can create their own shot. It has been 3 years now, and it doesn't appear that Woody can even get the players he wants to play his system.
Yep but it's also year 6, he's 24 and he's still in college BB. Trey isn't a PG and Cupps needs experience but also should have 20-30# more weight on him..
Statistically X provides improvement but yeah he will not be an All American-just better than other options.
