Atlantic just released all the texts this a.m. and it is not good

Just ask yourself. If this was done by a democratic administration you feel exactly the same way? We all know that’s not true. See Clinton email outrage by Hegseth, Rubio, Waltz and definitely the Dancing Orange Orangutan.
That would be different.

The success of the mission is great, but it’s not the point.

You are (and I'm certain you are) Aware that both the Russians and the Chinese have surveillance satellites above the Fleet that had to have picked up those flight ops in Real time and were able to determine the heading, speed and altitude of those Strike Packages along with the types and number of aircraft, drones and cruise missiles, while most likely feeding that information directly to the Iranians (to forward to the Houtis) and/or possibly even directly to the Houtis...

I spoke with a Naval Aviator neighbor who flew Tomcats off the Enterprise for over a decade and he said that while the Comms error by Waltz and Hegseth "wouldn't exactly be considered optimal Operational Security and probably doesn't do much for morale", he didn't feel it actually materially increased the risks involved in the flight ops portion of the attack (due to the existing real time satellite surveillance)...

///////////::/:/:::::////////////////

They F----d up. If they don't adjust their approach to Comms Security immediately Then they should be fired but not before...

They've been on the job for just over 2 months, there was bound to be a glitch sooner or later, just be happy that it's only an embarrassment to them and it's a solvable error....

They didn't fire Kurilla, the top guy at CENTCOM, when your old ship the USS Gettysburg shot down one US Navy F-18 and near missed another (back in December) did they? In fact the Navy didn't even officially Fire the Captain of that cruiser:

If one wanted to be a smarta-- one might suggest the the biggest risk to Aviators in Theater is actually the USS Gettysburg AntiAircraft Defenses versus anything the Houtis currently have thrown at them...

What defines a “scandal”?

A foolish action done with malicious intent that causes harm I believe is a scandal if it comes to light.

What about a foolish action done with malicious intent but the tangible harm is tougher to prove? Like using the IRS to harass 501C3’s or the FBI to harass Catholics, I would say yes, that’s a scandal

I would even say a foolish action that causes harm like getting 13 service members blown up is a scandal, even if the malicious intent is tougher to prove

But simply foolish action with no malicious intent or tangible harm?

That’s not a scandal. No way no how.

If this had happened under a Democratic administration, the small handful of Republicans on this forum who are amazingly trying to dissemble would be screaming bloody murder. We all know it. They know it, too. They can't admit it, but they know it.
I have asked them what they would be saying if it were Biden and the fact they have not bothered to reply shows the answer.

I wish I had a dime for every “if it were Biden” comment posted in this thread. I’d buy a new Porsche and this thread would be half the size.

Now go back to clutching pearls.

well, stop being hypocrites based on what party did it and people would stop pointing it out.

That's like a kid that constantly acts out complaining that they always get in trouble

I talked to a guy who’s kid is on a carrier right now and he’s pissed and his kid is pissed.

His kid would be court marshaled and these folks will just say oopsie and go about their business.

But you’re right. Russia and China certainly have satellites. They are also certainly monitoring Signal.

You’d be a lot richer if you got a penny for every lie your cult leader told during his presidency.

Answer the freaking question then. Oh, and look at the other side too, how many, "yeah, but Afghanistan" posts have there been. Isn't that "if it were Biden"?

You try to act all it is all about the principle. Of course the only principle you give a damn about is Republicans winning. Doesn't matter what they stand for, so long as they win.

Go back and look, I never defended Biden, never claimed Harris was a good (or great) candidate. One can be fair. You are always in lawyer mode and the GOP is your client come hell or high water.

You KNOW if this happened under Biden you would be jumping up and down "clutching pearls."

Go piss up a rope you dumbass. You can go suck on my hypocrisy.

13 Americans and dozens of civilians didn’t die, and billions of dollars in weapons didn’t get handed to terrorists, and quashing human rights didn’t happen because of this mistake.

You’re damn right! Biden screw up had real consequences, not hypothetical ones. This screw up resulted in an outstanding success.

Go clutch your pearls.

Answer the question, what would you do under Biden if the texts to a civilian had happened. I commend you for not lying because you know the answer will label you a partison POS.

They twist themselves into pretzels to avoid the truth. Remember the old days when Tip O’ Neill and Ronald Reagan who were diametrically opposed in their political positions could sit down and have a beer together without calling each other names and insulting one another. O’Neill told Reagan that after 6 o’clock Republicans were friends. Boy do I wish for those days. I fear that we’ll never see that kind of decency again. Reagan and O’Neill were both fundamentally good men. That is not what we currently have at the top of the MAGA party.

Had my car at the dealer a few weeks ago. It was leaking coolant. My god. So while I was getting sorted me and my minion went and checked out the 2024 911s. Gts. I put him in the driver seat. And he’s pretending to drive the “race car.” He’s ****ing around with it while I went around to check the sticker. had 5k miles on it. $285k.

GET OUT!!!! GET OUT OF THE CAR!!!!!!

And what do you think the last four years were? Staying evictions. Forgiving student loans. Trying to mandate vaccines. Were you in a coma? A nervous hospital? Are you just coming back? Are you hickory’s uncle?

So you want to play that game do you. Well how about the 4,419 American soldiers killed in the Iraq war. Which btw was started on Republican lies about WMD. I voted for W and can admit that my former party made a terrible decision that cost the lives of thousands of Americans. The best you have are your insults. But that is familiar territory for you MAGA cultists.

The entire COH argument is a red herring. The crux of the issue is the future. It’s in all of our interests to have secure government communications. Likewise, we need professional public servants conscientiously observing and maintaining OPSEC protocols. It’s a responsibility, a duty, and it takes constant vigilance. Anyone who’s not willing to be responsible needs to find alternative employment.

We have secure communications. The issue is that they didn't use it. We definitely do have high level civilian personnel who are criminally lax in protecting national security information. That needs to change.

100%

Convenience over national security should never be the choice.

Laura Loomer is spreading a wild conspiracy theory about the Signal incident. I saw it from MAGA "friends" on Facebook several times over the last three days and it's one of those that is outrageous on its face, and full of factual errors, but certain people are believing it whole hog and even admonishing their "friends" who dare to question it. The gist of it is that Alex Wong, Deputy National Security Advisor to Waltz (they get that wrong in their conspiracy posts) set this all up and deliberately added Goldberg because Wong is connected with China. How any of this makes sense is a mystery. It reads like a parody and would be hilarious if that was what it was, but these people really believe the nonsense. Read about it here:

I'm shocked dbm hasn't posted anything about this one.

Niall Ferguson broke this down well.

Signal is just Silicon Valley culture coming to Washington. The amount of effort it takes me to simply get into my work phone and laptop, I can’t imagine what high ranking government officials have to go through to discuss classified information digitally.

Signal is clearly evidence of a “**** it” we have shit to get done attitude. The administration is working extremely hard and fast and being in front of a desktop is not always an option and shouldn’t slow down the decision making process.

Government lethargy is a blocker, this administration is injecting dynamism.

I think eventually we'll have to get to a point where we as a country stop electing and paying attention to non-serious, sensationalistic politicians and start realizing the fringe BS on both sides aren't getting us anywhere. If we don't do that I think we'll devolve even further into something most of us really don't want.

Unfortunately I don’t see that happening in this day and age of clicks. Too many in Congress are more concerned about their public persona than doing what’s good for the country. I think it just gets worse.

That entire Signal string was vanity so this type of opinion misses the mark for me. They weren't getting **** done. They were talking ****.

Perhaps. No different than a Teams or slack chat at work. Point being these people are in the fly. They need to be able to communicate via cell.

Maybe the government can build a new app.
