Argentina elects "far-right" libertarian--will they turn it around?

Political stability. More poverty leading to a Marxist revolution or brutal dictatorship, either of which might lead to deaths and imprisonment?

I'm not saying they shouldn't try a more capitalist approach. I'm just saying they have quite a bit more to hit rock bottom (see Venezuela).
I thought they were politically unstable before? It's hard to get worse than 40% poverty.

Evidently their electorate is smarter than Venezuela's.

It's not obvious to me. I don't know much about Argentina's economy, so I'm curious what these reforms are supposed to accomplish.
You are being difficult for no reason. Economic reforms, in general, tend to bring short term detriment for an assumed long-term benefit. In Europe, such reforms that would be beneficial are around pensions, work requirements (limitations on # of hours, etc.), and trade. None of those would start off with an easy situation.

In the U.S., politically unpopular decisions to actually reform the retirement system (Medicare, SS, etc.) is why no politicians have the guts to actually change the trajectory. Changes would trigger negative consequences in the near-term, for the betterment of the country in the long run. But, if you are a politician, it's impossible to do anything.

Argentina is a heavily corrupt, inept, socialist economy. It's famously defaulted on its debt, had enormous inflation with mediocre economic growth (consistently lagged the U.S., for example). A transition into capitalism is a decade-plus process and the initial phases are going to be painful (reduced government support, etc.). It's quite obvious it would be good for the country in the long-term, but how you get there is difficult.

Anyone who is decreasing a federal govt. can as authoritarian as they want. The IRS is worst criminal organization in the world. It is not nearly as organized as the Mafia but is made legal by our criminal federal govt.

Why is the Democratic Party so opposed to RFK jr. and Ms. Shanahan being on state presidential ballots. All they talk about is Trump ruining democracy but evilist democratic Party claims anyone that opposes them is terrorist and will exercise their current power to ban them or try to paint them as criminals.

Meanwhile the current Democratic regime continues to fund the death of Ukrainian people.

There's absolutely zero chance you read the whole article, so please cut us all a break. I'm sure the last thing in your google browser is "Why is Javier Milei bad?"

nope, just googled his name to see what came up... i guess biased google just put that article on top.

Sorry I interrupted your drooling over a rightwing nut bag.

Dude,it's an opinion piece. By that logic, someone should post an opinion piece praising Trump or deriding Biden to prove you're wrong about what you think of either one.

“Milei, known for touting anti-drug policies, appointed Patricia Bullrich as his security minister, a role she previously served under former President Mauricio Macri. Bullrich recently praised El Salvador President Nayib Bukele for his tactics in reducing gang-related crimes, saying she wanted to imitate his measures in Argentina. While Bukele's policies have significantly reduced El Salvador's crime rate, they have also resulted in the arrest of approximately 1 percent of the population, including numerous instances of wrongful arrests and also destroying the rule of law. This heavy-handed strategy in El Salvador has led to a widespread erosion of basic constitutional freedoms.”

This paragraph shows how f#cking stupid the writer is. He considers innocent people being able to live in peace and free from being murdered a bad thing because the criminals were placed in prison and they didn’t do it perfectly. El Salvador went from one of the most dangerous countries to now the safest country in the Western Hemisphere. How is enforcing the law, restoring peace and safety, destroying the rule of law?
