That just seems like such a dumb approach. And trump of course has little common sense. Or narcissistic sense. But damn there are close to 90 million poc in the us. Not a winning strategy

Trump's incompetence is hard to fathom, I get it. But take his ridiculous litigation strategies and lawyer hiring practices: he's repeatedly done that, too. Evidence of an intent to lose his legal cases? Does he want to get slapped with huge verdicts? Is he intending to go to jail?

I doubt majority would call themselves that. They aren't card carrying white nationalist. But if you surveyed people on their belief systems... Eh I don't know. Growing up in Indiana I've encountered a lot of people who would get offended if you called them a racist but then would turn around and tell their friends an N word joke. In my early 20s I bar tended at an old school white table cloth steak house. The shit the Wasps would say at the bar would turn your stomach. I was young and dumb. Needed the money. So I didn't have the balls to say much. I regret it to this day. I Did tell one particular asshole to eat shit once. That felt good.

I think there's a difference between a garden variety anti-black racist and a white nationalist. I completely buy that 20 million plus Americans have some sort of anti-black racist views.

There are three great authors on the rise of Nazi Germany: (1) Richard Evans; (2) Ian Kershaw; and (3) William Schrier (who lived through it). Schrier's book (Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) is remarkable for what it is--an almost real time analysis of "how Germany went from point A to Point Z.
The National Socialist movement, which Hitler co-opted and took over, was small potatoes --until it wasn't. The first premise was "if we didn't have democratic and communists within Germany who betrayed us at the Treaty of Versaille, we would havve won world war I". Second premise was that the hyperinflation in was directly caused by WWI, the traitors and communists. Third Premise was blame the immigrants as well. The Jews, the communist infiltrators, the slavs, etc. Who was the target at first? The disenfranchised working class and rural farmers. It worked. The fear mongering, the easy reliance on false narratives that Germany had been betrayed by its own (and the Jews) in WWI. The lies were repeated so often that it spread and grew and people believed it because they needed a scapegoat. Schrier and Evans go into unbelievable detail on this--with Schrier giving first hand accounts of what people were thinking. These lies and scapegoats became so accepted that the National Socialist party grew substantially---getting 20% of parliment and growing. I've skipped a few steps, but for purposes of a message board, I had to. Then came the violence, the thousands of assaults on communists, socialists and immigrants by Hitler's original SS equivalent--the brown shirts.
Again, the growth kept coming, with speeches becoming more and more vitriolic and more of the make Germany great again. And yet people continued to buy in. Churchill, half of Europe, etc. You know who didn't? Leon Trotsky was the first and best writer on Hitler's rise to power--even before he became the Fuhrer. Sitting in exile while he wrote his polemics, Trotsky outlined everything for the world. Nobody listened. How do you catch a hacker? With another Hacker. If anyone would know about authoritarian regimes and oppressive government, it would be Trotsky. You can read these writings on the internet today. His point in most of these writings is the Charismatic Man can accomplish much. The violence, the lying, the abuses of power were all allowed --including a suspension of the Germany constitution.

!!OH NO!!!100%. Reich ain't neutral--only one country has ever referred itself as the "Reich" the Bizmark pre world war I (and through WWI). An overtly aggressive country was the root cause of WWI. The second of course needs no explainer--we know exactly what Reich means: 1933-1945 Germany.
If you are using that word at anytime in the 20th and 21st century, it means one thing. Why would an american use the term Reich--unless it was intentional. You wouldn't. The actual sentence said "“the creation of a unified Reich”. They doubled down the usage 3 times and actually stated “German industrial strength significantly increased after 1871, driven by the creation of a unified Reich.” That sentence of course is extremely coy and does not provide an end date--and for good reason inasmuch as Bizmark Reich failed miserably, and the Weimer republic was dog doo doo, with inflation running at over a million percent. There was no industry. No food either. Enter Hitler and his commerical works projects....
As for Trump's comments about "poisioning the blood of our country" (disucssing immigration), and referring to immigrants as vermin --these are two unmistakeable terms and phrases that you won't find anywhere other than Mein Kumph and Joseph Goebbels diary. Richard Evans and Ian Kershaw both have written magnificent books on this.
There is NO other reason to say these things unless you are making it known who you really are, then playing dumb about it....how many times would direct copying of nazi language must there before people realize this is a problem. I would not be too sure that the actual percentage of non-progressives who support varied Christian Nationalists/White Nationalist principles was higher.
Many Alt-Right and Libertarians don't consider themselves Republicans. Many are developing parallel societies, education systems, food supplies, communications systems, energy sharing, etc.
They are preparing their self reliance.
