The attempts to link Trump to the most prolific Jew haters in the history of the world is incomprehensible. The list of things Trump has done in support of the Jewish State is a long one. They named a town after him and another town named the town square for him. The things Trump did to bring the most dominant Jew-hating country in the world today to its knees is a long one too.Maybe. Maybe not. But sure shouldn't be normalizing an accidentally on purpose nearly verbatim quote from Hitler's insane manifesto.
There are three great authors on the rise of Nazi Germany: (1) Richard Evans; (2) Ian Kershaw; and (3) William Schrier (who lived through it). Schrier's book (Rise and Fall of the Third Reich) is remarkable for what it is--an almost real time analysis of "how Germany went from point A to Point Z.
The National Socialist movement, which Hitler co-opted and took over, was small potatoes --until it wasn't. The first premise was "if we didn't have democratic and communists within Germany who betrayed us at the Treaty of Versaille, we would havve won world war I". Second premise was that the hyperinflation in was directly caused by WWI, the traitors and communists. Third Premise was blame the immigrants as well. The Jews, the communist infiltrators, the slavs, etc. Who was the target at first? The disenfranchised working class and rural farmers. It worked. The fear mongering, the easy reliance on false narratives that Germany had been betrayed by its own (and the Jews) in WWI. The lies were repeated so often that it spread and grew and people believed it because they needed a scapegoat. Schrier and Evans go into unbelievable detail on this--with Schrier giving first hand accounts of what people were thinking. These lies and scapegoats became so accepted that the National Socialist party grew substantially---getting 20% of parliment and growing. I've skipped a few steps, but for purposes of a message board, I had to. Then came the violence, the thousands of assaults on communists, socialists and immigrants by Hitler's original SS equivalent--the brown shirts.
Again, the growth kept coming, with speeches becoming more and more vitriolic and more of the make Germany great again. And yet people continued to buy in. Churchill, half of Europe, etc. You know who didn't? Leon Trotsky was the first and best writer on Hitler's rise to power--even before he became the Fuhrer. Sitting in exile while he wrote his polemics, Trotsky outlined everything for the world. Nobody listened. How do you catch a hacker? With another Hacker. If anyone would know about authoritarian regimes and oppressive government, it would be Trotsky. You can read these writings on the internet today. His point in most of these writings is the Charismatic Man can accomplish much. The violence, the lying, the abuses of power were all allowed --including a suspension of the Germany constitution.
It troubles me to no end to chalk up a guy's clear quoting of Hitler and Goebbels as just being a mistake or a gaffe. There's a game being played here, and I don't think we want to say "it is just Trump being Trump"--Schrier goes through this in his book.
Do I think Trump is going to kill immigrants, etc? of course not. Do I think he is dangerous? I do. It is a shame Nikki Haley wasn't elected--at least there would be a better choice than the two who are running now.
Good luck on your daughter's game Matt--let's see if she can score a goal for the Water Cooler Club
Really, who started this thread?Always on your mind…

Contrast that with the Obama and then Biden Administration Iranian leniency and support, together Obama and Biden’s very public opposition to Israel’s political leadership and the attempts to link Trump to Jewish extermination is even more dumbfounding. . Biden even called for a change of Israeli leadership. That’s crazy for a President to do.

It is a good strawman argument that you make. Unfortunately, it isn't one anybody is making. Perhaps this super jewish supporting former president, hero to millions of jews, ought not to find himself quoting Hitler, etc. That might go a long way to solving that "incomprehensible" consternation you have about people commenting on the behavior of the former president. The attempts to link Trump to the most prolific Jew haters in the history of the world is incomprehensible. There was a fight between protesters at UCLA. On the side fighting against the Palestinian supporters were some people with long histories of antisemitism. Why would they fight alongside Jewish people against Palestinians? Maybe many antisemitic people just hate Middle Eastern people, full stop. The attempts to link Trump to the most prolific Jew haters in the history of the world is incomprehensible. Then you live under a rock. Or you are being obtuse.Pay attention. I have never seen the word reich as synonymous with Nazi.
Trump said regarding immigrants: "they're poisoning the blood of our country". He did it 4 times. When he was called out on he doubled down: "It's true. They're destroying the blood of the country, they're destroying the fabric of our country, and we're going to have to get them out."Trump didn’t quote Hitler.
If you intend to separate the Political Hitler from the Jew-hating Hitler, that argument makes a little more sense, but it likewise is a long way from Trump. Fascist-like blending government and business or government-controlled speech are not Trumps bag.
Trump gives us a lot to criticize him about, that is substantially about his personality and lack of political temperament. Linking Trump politics to Hitler is just eye and ear candy for anti-Trumpers. There are better criticisms.
The word Reich has zero to do with NazisThen you live under a rock. Or you are being obtuse.
The word was appropriated. Just like the previously peaceful swastika symbol was appropriated. You cannot use it anymore without a clear implication of being a Nazi sympathizer.
At least the Trump team took it down and admit what you cannot. You are worse than the typical Trumper, it seems.
There's no doubt that Trump is influenced by the nazi playbook.Trump said regarding immigrants: "they're poisoning the blood of our country". He did it 4 times. When he was called out on he doubled down: "It's true. They're destroying the blood of the country, they're destroying the fabric of our country, and we're going to have to get them out."
Hitler said in regards to non-aryans--i.e. immigrants and mixed culters: "All great cultures perished only because the originally creative race died out from blood poisoning." He made the reference again to specifically identify jews as a prime culprit.
It takes a fine bit of sophistry to make your argument. This shouldn't be an issue, but you keep coming up with these strawmen arguments.
One of the most popular Nazi slogans was "Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer!" it was put on posters, it was used in speeches. Reich was often appropriated by the Nazis. Then you live under a rock. Or you are being obtuse.

Yes Trump said that. Do you really think Trump referred to racial purity as Hitler thought of aryans being the superior race? I don’t, Trump referred to ‘blood” as being the bundle of cultural norms that make up his view of America.Trump said regarding immigrants: "they're poisoning the blood of our country". You’re correct but the word Reich to the common ear has the connotation people are rightfully complaining about. It’s not a word that should be used for that reason aloneThe word Reich has zero to do with Nazis
The therm Third Reich includes Hitler Nazism, but it isn’t the same thing. Shirer made that pretty clear. But yeah, as I said Germany, the Reich, and Nazis were all labeled as our WWII enemy at the time. History corrected the issue. We know Nazis killed Jews.
You can use them interchangeably if you want, I don’t care, but you are making an ignorant mistake.
Of course you are correct, as this thread reveals. The larger point is the constant effort to connect Trump with Hitler (and Putin) and the leaps of logic that requires. Yeah, Trump says a lot of things that people use to make that connection (bloodbath being one). But often such criticisms are BS. When it comes to criticizing Trump, BS reality, and normalcy become indistinguishable. You’re correct but the word Reich to the common ear has the connotation people are rightfully complaining about. As someone mentioned above (Mark Milton?), there is generally a counter balance to any ideology. What do you think the opposite viewpoint of someone like Bannon or Miller would be? What would the opposite extreme be? What would someone who espoused that extreme look like from a policy stabdpoint?Still plenty of "holy shit" moments even if we find ways to excuse this one. Trump hired Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, dudes well known for their white nationalist leanings. Should we blame staff lackeys for not vetting enough? LOL. More realistic to think they were hired for that very reason.
No, I don't think I am imitating you and your ilk, at allyou are making an ignorant mistake.
Cuts both ways as he certainly invites it. He’s a marketing man. A brand man. And I get the adage all publicity is good publicity but I don’t think that’s true in politics. He really hurts himself with this stuffOf course you are correct, as this thread reveals. If I searched long enough, I bet I can find the same words and phrases Obama used that Stalin or Marx used.Trump said regarding immigrants: "they're poisoning the blood of our country". He did it 4 times. When he was called out on he doubled down: "It's true. Yep.If I searched long enough, I bet I can find the same words and phrases Obama used that Stalin or Marx used.
So what?
Not sure what that bs would have to do with thread anywaySo did criminal Joe steal 5 billion from black farmers to pay off for students loans and his endless plan for wars.
The plan was taken to court by White famers, a judge ordered it halted, so the Ag Dept redid it to a race neutral bill.So did criminal Joe steal 5 billion from black farmers to pay off for students loans and his endless plan for wars.
Yes Trump said that. Do you really think Trump referred to racial purity as Hitler thought of aryans being the superior race? I don’t, Trump referred to ‘blood” as being the bundle of cultural norms that make up his view of America.
But agree to the extent Trump should not have used blood in that way. As I said before, Trump converts ideas to symbols with his speeches. Calling cultural norms the blood of America is an example.
I am betting you cannot. 2 beers at the next IU game I can get toIf I searched long enough, I bet I can find the same words and phrases Obama used that Stalin or Marx used.
So what?
In this day and age, google should make this a 5 minute search. I encourage you to support your infinite monkey theorem. That being said, if you are characterizing Trump as a talking monkey smashing his hands on a keyboard, I would agree.Yep.
It’s an application of the Infinite Monkey Theorem.
This is just all part of the faux outrage leftists engage in.Yep.
It’s an application of the Infinite Monkey Theorem.
I'll call you and raise you 2 fireball shots.I am betting you cannot. 2 beers at the next IU game I can get to
What is an "endless plan?"So did criminal Joe steal 5 billion from black farmers to pay off for students loans and his endless plan for wars.
maybe one that never goes into effect???What is an "endless plan?"
Combating racism and fighting climate change are examples. What is an "endless plan?"
and yet what does that have to do with this thread?
You don't see many kids named Adolf anymore, either. One of the most popular Nazi slogans was "Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer!" it was put on posters, it was used in speeches. Reich was often appropriated by the Nazis.
I don't think Trump had anything to do with the errant post, nor do I think anyone specifically intended something. I don't get why CO has to go well beyond that to come perilously close to suggesting "Reich" has no reference to Naziism. The term was widely used before and during WWII but Germany pretty much stopped using it post WW2. According to the Wiki it hasn't been used in official documentation since 1945.
I doubt "Heil" or "Fuhrer" are used in Germany though both well predate WW2.
You don't see many kids named Adolf anymore, either.
That’s crazy. It’s always been the Third Reich. And and want the hell is neo- Nazi ideology. Is there more than one kind of Nazism with which you associate Reich? The use of the word Reich is clearly supportive of neo-nazi ideology
