Anyone actually think we'll get Mullins?

More to the point, don't engage with conspiracy theories by shooting back more lunatic conspiracy theories from the other side. If politics aren't supposed to be interjected into basketball discussions, it shouldn't matter who started it, or what side of the political spectrum the original comment came from. They should BOTH keep their crap out of this.
so, what you think the liberal bias extends to the Rivals bball page? Snicker...

I’m sorry but Iowa st isn’t out bidding and buying their roster. They fill needs with portal and recruit and develop. Build a team. Woody doesn’t build a team..talent is here but I will bet money we are not top 3 in BIG this year.
Nice job rooting against IU.

ISU rebuilds almost their entire team every year via the portal. But no, they aren't going to outbid IU or Duke... because they don't have as much money available. They would if they could. Awful examples on your part.

Purdue is probably the only viable example left, at this point. And that's really only because of the effects of Mt. Edey. Otherwise, they're Texas Tech. Actually probably worse than that, as TT relied on transfers to make their run a few years ago.

No. What I'm saying is, keeping political crap off the Basketball Forum goes both ways. It ain't that hard of a concept. Snicker.
woulda been great if that's what you said... but you didn't. You specifically talked about "the other side". Agree it's simple: this ain't the place for political comments. See? that wasn't that hard!

No. Let me lay it out for you, in even easier format, since my point is eluding you.

Poster #1 makes completely irrelevant comment injecting political comment about the BOT and their liberal bias.

Poster #2 replies with equally stupid comment involving Trump imprisoning people or just shooting them, because I guess Trump is just as relevant to the IU BOT as their supposed liberal bias.

Comment is then made about Poster #1, for injecting politics into the discussion. To which, I add both injected politics into it, and both should be pointed and laughed at. They're both doing it.

The "other side" reference was to both posters, clearly on opposite sides of the political spectrum, and the comment made about only the first poster. Frankly, I don't care about either, nor do I bloody care who said what first. Responding to unwanted political commentary with equally braindead political commentary is just as annoying. There's a Water Cooler forum for a reason. I'm beyond sick of politics working its way into the very things we use to get away from it, like sports. And, in particular, trashing every other thread in this forum. Clear enough for you?

Are they getting big NIL offer type recruits? Pretty sure they aren’t

No they aren't because they don't have a fan base that gives money like many blue blood programs do. Having 5 banners and tradition has enabled IU to have a much larger NIL, even without any real success over the past 30 years.

ISU, PU, Gonzaga, and Creighton do not have a tradition of success and titles that motivates their fans to give as much or have the volume of fans to give. Thus, they may not attract as many top recruits or portal players.

But make no mistake, all the programs use NIL and would love to have ours as the know the days of recruiting 4-5 HS kids and building a team/program are over.

PU may be one of the last, if not the last, programs to not utilize the portal with their NIL money, but instead use their NIL for recruits only. Maybe that is the strategy Painter is taking and we'll see how that works out for them.

I think dad has lived a little vicariously since Braylon blew up. It's always been IU but all of the attention from the who's who of the game is flattering. Now the song has changed to "yeah but you 2 can play together." That's not the same. So it's time to button this up and help us close the deal with Reibe.

It's hard to use the PORTAL when your roster is filled! I don't think anybody got tossed to the curb unlike TRANSFER U! I don't think anybody left because of playing time either!

Keeping guys like Waddell, Berg, Benter, etc around will ultimately become Painter's downfall in this new climate of basketball. They lost Catchings at the 11th hour and because they were out of scholarships couldn't land a 4 man in the portal. I think with a solid 4 man Purdue could have been decent this year.

Unless they have one I'm not aware of, the UNC kid (Dixon?) is a PG I think, so likely no impact on Mullins unless he just really wants to, or doesn't want to, play with him.
Dixon is a 4 year player, and would not scare off a player the caliber of Mullins.

Ethan Morton and Mason Gillis say hello! They were totally tossed to the curb so Painter could sign a 6 man,...err I mean, 5 man class! Nobody at IU, "had" to leave, even though a couple chose to. Not so for PU.
Morton and Gillis were asked by Painter if they wanted to use their Covid year before last year started. They both declined and therefore Painter recruited a 6 man class. No one was forced out.

The Locked on Hoosiers guy did an update and read comments that Mullins supposedly gave to another (24/7?) recruitnik. Interestingly he commented on the distance to both UConn and UNC and how he'd be "on his own" there. I'd heard that distance was a factor and with both of them signing guards, I'm hoping that swings in our favor.

It would be nice to add that kind of size at guard with the ability to shoot. He's likely one season but it would be an exciting season.

Sure, why not? Unless he doesn’t think he’s good enough to help our team. Maybe he wants it easy w Uconn.

Hurley's biggest sell to Mullins is being a one and done.
Maybe he wants to WIN and play on the big stage! Maybe he looked at the IU squad and was wondering who was going to play the 5 next year? Maybe he went to the IU practice and did not see a future there! Maybe he looked at Woody and saw a coach who's future is ????? Maybe it is not about the money!

It is about the money — it has to be about market for the player. This is a problem for poverty Purdue. Painter keeps lowballing recruits and trying to rip them off by paying them less than they are worth. It’s sad.

Broke ass second rate program.

There was a family member that said he was an IU lock. Then he went to Storrs and came back and said it was too far. At that point it was all just a part of the father son dream visit tour. Then there was the UK money thing that took this into a totally different tax bracket. Hurley stepped in and matched that. Then there was the clandestine visit in Bloomington, that I assume was about NIL and there have been rumors that IU went way above what Hurley offered. Then Sept 20th. The family source went quite and then the in home visits. After he came back from his family fall break it started leaking out that it was UCONN. The family source has verified that with an apology and nothing more. So we offered more than we gave Rice and Carlyle. More than Ballo and Hurley was just short of Ballo money. So it wasn't money. It was the in home visit that swung it. Our staff and a concept of what might be versus a winning staff that has put 5 perimeter players in the draft in 2 years. In the end he was too good of a player to land in a long recruitment in our current state.

Too many factors lead to IU being the "best" choice. If he chooses elsewhere...not the end of the world, obviously. But it would be further proof that we have something going on that is hurting our chances with high level high school guards. And the most obvious reason would have to be Woody's style of play.
Maybe that we are loaded at the guard position might have something to do with it
