Another sign the USA is going down

Chi Chi’s was the best, back in the day. Great Chimichangas.
I never understood the fascination with ChiChis. It always seemed like frozen microwave Mexican TV dinners to me, at least relative to the GREAT TexMex that you get in Texas, where my wife is from.

I hope they open close to here or in Georgia.

I spent a lot of nights at Chi Chi's. Forty years ago we'd go there for Monday Night Football, every week. Cheap pitchers of Michelob, and they had a free taco bar. It was freaking awesome. Later the free taco bar became a 50 cent taco bar, but still a great time. You won't find shit like that today.

The Chi Chi's on 3rd street had free hot dogs to go with the taco fixings and cheap beer for MNF in the late 80s. If you won some contest (can't remember if it was trivia or guessing the stats at halftime) you got to watch the second half in a lazy boy they wheeled in.

'Nuff said.

Age. In my 20s I thought lucky dogs on the street in the French quarter were deeelish

Maybe we have stumbled on the real secret, getting drunk before eating.
You've hit the nail on the head. There was a Russian restaurant in Munich we liked to go to and they served free shots of vodka before every meal. We swore it was the best meals we ever had.

And, at Bonge's, which is a place between Cicero and Anderson - very popular in central Indiana - they didn't used to have reserved seating, so everyone put their names in and waited a couple of hours and tailgated. It was like a mini-football tailgate. So, by the time everyone was seated, most were pretty lubed up. The food there is really good, but it tasted a lot better after a couple hours of tailgating.

Just hit up Arby's for 4 roast beef for $10.

I'm old enough to remember 5 for $5.
My first meal in Bloomington, we stopped at the Arby's on College coming into town. Never been to one before.

It must have made an impression, because I remember that from over 50 years ago. Same with my first KFC when we broke down in Missouri (Jeffersonville, I think) and my dad went out to get us lunch at some place called Kentucky Fried Chicken. Life changing!

I only went a couple times, and it was so so, but those I know that loved it mostly talked about the huge and cheap margaritas so I discounted their positive reviews of the food. ;)

I'm not a big restaurant drinker. Too cheap I guess... $15-20 for a drink you can make at home for a buck or two seems crazy.
