I've often thought if the posters at The Cooler who exchange insults with each other were to meet in person they could most likely have a friendly discussion and find a new friend.

In watching 60 Minutes last night a guest commentator Dave Isay has for the past 18 years been bringing people together from different parts of the political spectrum. He has discovered my premise from above has merit.

In part Isay had this to say, "I think people feel-- people feel misunderstood. You know, nobody has ever, in the in the history of humanity, ever changed their mind by being called an idiot or a moron or a snowflake."
The internet has brought out the very nasty side in people. We were much more cordial before things like twitter came around now people can hide behind a keyboard and be tough guys. This is just entertainment to me I take none of it seriously buy I really cannot think of anything twitter has done in a positive way to help with rational discussions. I think twitter is as toxic as it gets. This board is fine but I quit twitter its just nasty

We are making progress. Agree with all of this.

Been off of FB for a year and a half (never spent much time there). Been off Twitter for about 6 months. Both great decisions, and good for my health.

I have three friends we discuss a lot of political and historical issues at a bar where two of them work. There is some religion mixed into it. One of our friends likes to play Devil's Advocate and is a traditional conservative, but anytime someone dips into the discussion, it's all good until they get into the conspiracy BS. They get shut down then out pretty quickly.

Brings information and leave hyperbole at the door.

I did facebook maybe three months years ago and was done. It was mostly i did not care what people ate for dinner need to hear how incredible their kids were. My kids are pretty successful in sports i just not feel the need to broadcast it. I dont need likes. I started twitter for sports but once the politics talk started i was done. It was just toxic.

My mother is law is a raging liberal. I can let her rant and throw in a few comments and be done with it in ten minutes face to face. Her problem is she is on facebook with people like her so they feed of each other. I think it just gets her more riled up. She once told me trump was keeping her up at night. I said you cannot let a politician who reallly hasnt changed one thing in your life control you. It is unhealthy and not needed. I said quit looking at facebook its not worth it. Turn the news off. Well i tried anyway. I can tell you no politicisn has ever kept me up at night. Its just unhealthy.

Actually, we don't. Who showed up only to troll conservatives? TMP for one. Name another? Lucy, bailey, DANC, etc. We libs have plenty of idiots, but you guys on the right have us dominated when it comes to trolls.
I just want to say thank you Goat for making me the poster that I am today.

I try to skirt that line between troll and jerk, but I'm afraid cray may be right and I'm just an asshole.
:D

i suppose humor counts for something, even if it’s not meant to be such

I always thought that Lucy was simply an alternate account belonging to one of the left-leaning posters here (I still think it's Goat) parroting back right wing viewpoints for laughs. Wasn't Lucy outed at some point?

I love Lucy. Every court needs a jester.

There was a time "Lucy" posted from their wrong account. I wish I had screen grabbed it.

What "Lucy" is trying to do is tougher than they think. Colbert managed it. If anyone ever heard Gary Burbank on WLW long ago, he did Earl Pitts, American that was hilarious. I am not sure if Lucy just isn't doing it well or if it just isn't going to work on a message board.

Wake up, America

Do we, though?
Let's keep the magic around for as long as possible. Lucy is kind of like Santa Claus for those kids who are at that age where they think it might be mom/dad, but they just aren't quite sure. Finding out will just mean another step out of childhood innocence and into the harsh world of adult reality, where they will spend the rest of their dreary, monotonous, soul-crushing lives.
(Was I thinking that, or did I type it out loud?)

As a person that considers themselves and certainly tries anyway to be an independent moderate, my observations match yours in that the trolls on the right around here outnumber the trolls on the left by a considerable margin.

Parody is not easy...you are correct. Lucy's slip shows on occasion when she lets emotion get the best but overall it is tough to maintain the facade.

“Troll” is a verb, not a noun. There are two kinds of posters, those who take the bait and those who don’t.

There is no such thing as internet trolling. Those who believe there is have taken the bait.

According to the Websters dictionary, you are wrong...

2a: to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content… trolls engage in the most outrageous and offensive behaviors possible—all the better to troll you with.— Whitney Phillips
b: to act as a troll (see TROLL entry 3 sense 2) on (a forum, site, etc.)… is also notorious, for trolling message boards on the Internet, posting offensive material he himself has written and then suing anyone who responds in agreement.— Mark Hemingway

I told everyone that agreement on anything is impossible. Can't even agree on what constitutes a troll lol

Troll is used both as a noun and a verb.

Hope this helps.

He's trolling.

I think you guys are giving her way too much credit. Parody is supposed to be creative, clever and funny. Lucy's posts are rarely any of that.

I will give you this, though. She knows that most of what she posts is bullshit, because she makes little effort to defend it.

Why would we?

This thread is nothing but "Your side is bad and all they do is troll" "No, your side is trolling. We just want to converse" "No you don't" "Yes we do"

What's the point?
It is a message board on a sports board what do people expect? A liberal fest and hugging each other ?
