Our disintegrating social cohesion is a ginormous problem. A free public education should build cohesion, instead we deliberately destroy cohesion in many ways. Lack of social cohesion is one of the root causes of our increasingly dysfunctional politics.
I think we have crossed the Rubicon on this and the damage we have done is irreparable. The United States will move forward with segments of high-functioning high achievers with most of the rest of us discontent onlookers.

Some of us have warned about the huge disparity between the high overachiever and the rest of us for a long time. At one time the top 1% had about as much wealth as the bottom 90%. That was in circa 1980 and before. Now it isn't close, the top 1% has far more wealth.
That isn't good for a society, very banana Republicesque. Yet when mentioned it is dismissed as the market is perfect, they deserve it, etc.
Boeing admits to over penny pinching which inevitably means the CEO is paid tens of millions to keep employee wages as low as humanly possible. Look at CEO wages before Jack Welch, they were far closer to employee wages. The market changed when he began his reign of profiting by driving GE into the ground. That wasn't the fault of DEI, liberals, or immigrants. The hero of today's business leader found a way to exploit the system for personal gain over that of employees, business allies, etc.
I saw an interesting take on the eating of pets issue, Trump/Vance want it page 1. Sure, it is crazy they believe it, but it isn't a vote changer. Abortion is the issue they are most worried about, any day it is knocked from the headline is a good day for them. So stupid Haitian comments is this week's distraction.
Except he's saying that women in Texas (or any other state that decides this issue with Legislative fiat) should have inferior health care chocies than women in the rest of the country, including some Red states. If you want to claim the people of the state decide and have a voice, then you can't allow a bunch of gerrymandered legislators who never face all the voters of the state to make decisions for women in distrcts they don't represent...
The 60% threshold is not really fair either, but I'll give credit to FL for actually allowing their draconian measure to actually be on the ballot (where it will get trounced). Completely opposite is a state like Texas where no way in hell they actually let people have an electoral say...

Most of “the rest” comes from lack of social cohesion.
The high over achieving segment means much more than money. It all starts with crappy educations for millions of kids. It’s a doom loop. Todays poorly educated kids are the offspring of 1, 2, or 3 generations of crappy educations.

The WSJ busted this story wide open. They even discovered that the woman who made the very first post was not only a Trumper, but that she discovered her kitty (Miss Sassy) in her own basement a few days later. Trump and Vance are knowingly lying, which of course galvanizes their supporters. But I think inevitably with Independents it's just a further reminder why Trump is so deeply unpopular and boomerangs against them...

Meh, I wouldn't put too much stock in IMD's report. I do find the report interesting and they have some great data from responses among corporate executives, but the real reason the U.S. dropped outside of the Top 10 is because of government inefficiency.
On top of that, some of your quotes make it much easier for places like Singapore or Switzerland, smaller countries with high incomes per capita, to outpace larger, more diverse countries.
All I know is that Asian and European companies are really trying to invest more in the U.S. I've seen it in many of the deals we are working on. Unfortunately for them, U.S. firms move much more quickly and tend to be more aggressive on M&A.

About 3.7% of abortions are therapeutic abortions. There isn’t much controversy about those except for the deliberate efforts by advocacy groups.
Fortunately, it was though it took an unusually long amount of time to resolve. The ectopic came just 8 months after she had a miscarriage. Physically both were hard for her, emotionally they were devastating. One of our other daughters has a child and is expecting twins in December. I know the oldest is thrilled for her, but it all adds to the weight she is carrying from the two problems above.
I've seen (unverified) accounts from people responding in comments sections that one of the reasons Springfield employers welcomed Haitians and needed to find quality employees, was that Springfield had a huge drug problem which affected the workforce.
