B1G stats as of 4/18/22...

It appears that the stats they have are current through the weekend's games and I might also add that teams have played anywhere from 31 to 36 games (IU at 34 games), so when you look at totals and not percentages, we have to keep in mind the number of games played. In the three major categories we are 9th in batting (.274), 13th (last) in pitching (7.14 ERA), 5th in fielding (.975). In pitching, we lead in hit batters at 67 and it's not even close. We are tied for the most WPs at 45, although Iowa which also has 45 has played two fewer games, so they actually lead in that category. We are tops in issuing walks at 197 and it's not even close, and we lead the league in giving up ERs. On the positive side, we are 2nd in the B1G in registering Ks. We have some players represented in the top ten leaders in hitting with Ellis still 1st in HRs and he is 5th in RBIs, Whalen is 3rd in SBs, while Doanes is 5th in walks, just to name three. We also have representation in some of the other top ten batting categories. When it comes to pitching, we are represented in the top ten of some of the negative categories such as Brehmer and Perkins being 1-2 in hit batters, and Kraft is also in the top ten in that category. When it comes to individual pitching, I might point out that there is obviously a disparity in the innings pitched by pitchers when you are looking at just totals in each category.

I might add that it is interesting that our opponent this weekend in Nebraska is last in batting while we are last in pitching. Also, our opponent this past weekend in Rutgers, is 1st in all three major categories of batting, pitching and fielding.

Based On This Year's Numbers, Here's Some High School Players To Keep An Eye On For The Next Few Years

IU@Rutgers, Game 3: RU 10 IU 9. Two 9th inning homers cost IU the lead and the game.

Brehmer is on the mound for IU. IU got a run in the 1st after Whalen got a leadoff double and eventually scored. There was no scoring in the 2nd. In the 3rd, IU struck for 3 runs as Pyne had a double in the inning. There was a walk and two singles by Glasser and Jessee to go along with the double.

Rutgers got 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, all earned, on three singles and a double.

Question About Where We Are Right Now

Guards: XJ, Bates, JHS, Gunn
Wings: Geronimo, Kopp, Galloway, Leal
Bigs: TJD, Race, Duncomb, Banks

I love hearing the rumors that Race, Trayce, XJ might want to come back next year and that would just be WONDERFUL. I know things are still in motion with the Renau kid and getting him would be WONDERFUL.

BUT...I hate stating the obvious again...WHO, ON THIS ROSTER, CAN MAKE THREES CONSISTENTLY? Surely to goodness we aren't going to commit the same sin over and over and over again...

For you guys who know stuff about recruiting, are we involved with any recruit/portal entrant, who can actually make the three consistently?

Go Hoosiers!

I Hate Change

8 returning starters on Offense
9 returning starters on Defense

We lost Hart at RB coach
We lost Wommack at DC

We added McCullough as RB coach
We added Warren as DC

OL - We lost Nworah and Crider - took Carpenter from the portal. Pre-season starts last year were 46 - this year 67.

RB - We lost Scott, took Carr from the portal, lost James 8/11/21 and Baldwin 10/4/21 to the portal.

WR - We lost Whop - took Matthews and Buckley from the portal - lost Matthews

QB - we lost Penix then Tuttle

DL - We lost J. Johnson and added Anderson and Handy from the portal

LB - We kept Jones and McFadden and got Marcelino back at Husky

Corners - Lost Mullen to injury

Safety - Lost Jamar Johnson

We should have been better than we have performed.

Penix underperformed.
OL underperformed.
WR's underperformed.

Until Maryland, defense generally was good enough to win, but less than expected.

IMO losing James, then the horrible start at Iowa shook this team emotionally and mentally. It snowballed and we lost momentum, confidence, chemistry.

Instead of looking forward to playing our tough schedule - it became an excuse.

All we can do now is find out who the fighters are and re-group for next year.

We're 2-6. Own it.

I worry that the coaching changes were a major mental change that we did not adjust to well enough/quick enough.

Redshirt seniors who contribute and will probably be gone:
Powell OL
Marcelino - Husky
Smolar - K
Burgess - DB
Fitzgerald - DB
Allen - LB
Jones. - OL
Bryant - DL

5thYear Seniors who could be gone:

Monster - DB
Reese Taylor - DB
Cam Jones - LB
James Head - DL
Jaylin Williams - DB
McFadden - LB
Haggard - OL
Bjorson - TE
Elliot - DL

Tuttle has a degree
Penix - ?
