Something Fun a great IU Basketball…

Go to YouTube and watch classic Knight Hoosiers basketball games. There are many great games in the queue. Just watched the LSU (Shaquille) ‘92 game! Man Knight could coach! I remember seeing it live but this is pretty fun. I also watched the LSU-IU ‘87 game, as well as the UNLV ‘87 game. Knight was a difference maker and his players responded with intelligent play. The one game the pisses me off the most, is IU vs Duke, ‘92 NCAA game. IU was robbed by officials in that one! The 75 Kentucky game was hard to accept but what an incredible effort!

“Promise made; promise kept.”

Went to Notre Dame’s commencement this weekend. (The Kid Down the Hall added an MBA.)

There were a lot of impressive features, not the least of which was seeing more people in the stands than at an IU football game, but that’s a discussion for another time.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better speech than that made by Jerome Bettis. After leaving for the NFL in 93, he promised his mother he’d get his degree. After a HOF career, even if it was with those hated and evil Steelers, and further success in life, Bettis came back and finished his Bachelors at the Mendoza School of Business. His speech was dynamic and moving. It hit the heart hard. And you could tell he was loving it. He practically floated out of the stadium as they left the stage.

The main speaker, Borys Gudziak, the Ukrainian Catholic Church/University, is probably someone unknown to just about everybody. In a stadium filled with tens of thousands, you could have heard a pin drop during his moving and emotional talk about the courage and honor of his fellow countrymen. (He did crack up the crowd by pulling out a football and fulfilling one of his childhood dreams of throwing a pass in The House That Rockne Built. It was caught by a graduating coed in the first row.) I believe Gudziak is the effective Archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Philadelphia.

if you have a chance and you can find it I recommend watching these two speeches. I’m not one for big commencement ceremonies. But this one packed a punch. Bettis was great. Gudziak was powerful.

Go Irish! (That’s for Sope. He chides me for my reversible IU/ND jacket.)

The pro-segregation, anti-abortion nexus

Ali Velshi lays it out pretty definitively in this commentary. You're welcome to disagree, but the evidence is pretty strong for his argument. Not only is the link between the Religious Right's overriding anti segregation and anti-abortion stances pretty blatant, but he also points out that Roe vs Wade was not even a very galvanizing ruling for the Right, until probably a 1/2 decade or so later...

The BIG issue for the Right from the start was Brown vs Board of Education- rendered in 1954,the year before I was born. Falwell, Liberty U, Bork... he lays out all the damning evidence that Segregation was the real boogeyman, and it was only when they realized that they were not going to gain traction (and political power) on that issue with any semblance of a majority of the population that they fell into line and chose abortion as their political sword. Obviously, the "moral majority"...not particularly moral, and never really close to a majority, has never really believed in individual freedom for everyone...

B1G standings as of 5/15/22...

The last game of the day is finally over with Illinois beating Nebraska with a run in the B9th after an error in the Husker outfield to win 5-4 after about a 2+ hour weather delay. OSU's conference season is over with, and they will play out of conference with all teams playing a Thurs-Sat schedule next week because of the start of the conference tournament the following week. Every team scrambling for those final spots in the B1G tournament are playing an upper division team except for Nebraska and Northwestern who have favorable season ending series. Here are the matchups starting Thurs:

IU @ Iowa
Illini @ PSU
MD @ Purdue
Rutgers @ Michigan
MSU @ Nebraska
NW @ Minn

IU could have been in a tie with PSU for 5th place if they had swept the Gophers, but it wasn't to be and now they are tied with Michigan for 6th with IU owning the tie breaker with UM, while PSU is a game up on us. Purdue is right behind IU and Michigan by just an ever so small percentage point difference and the B1G goes by percentages when deciding the pecking order. Nebraska and Northwestern, who have the favorable season ending series are both two games behind IU/Mich/Purdue. Here's the link to the current standings going into the final series of the season.

Biggest Team Need: Defense or Offense?

What does this team need more of? Offense or Defense?

  • Offense

  • Defense

Pretty simple and spawned out of multiple threads on both boards about potential portal pickups. Should we be focusing on upgrading our offense or doubling down on more defense?

Some food for thought: Here is how IU compares with the Final Four this year in offensive and defensive efficiency.

I guess the Biden Administration thought know one would notice...

With every other disaster they've created going on I guess they thought they'd just slip this one thru with no push back... Dispicable is the only word that comes to mind when I think of the people running the Biden Administration... Lower than...

Paging Coach Gee, for an opinion

He is the person whose knowledge of the game I respect the most on this board. small debate in another thread about who was most dominate in high school Kemp or Robinson.
Coach who would be your all-time team Indiana HS team based only on players you have seen during their High School career only, not on what they did in college or the pros

Mine would be

C Oden
F Robinson
F Kemp
G Skiles
G Gordon
6th man Bailey

Admittedly living in so ind only got to see a lot of players in the state tournament, Alford and Blackmon Sr were supposed to be incredible High School players, but I never had a chance to see them.
