Long ass singles

According to a report, the average length of a song is now significantly shorter. (Basically, Spotify is making songs shorter.)

The average length of a song on the Billboard Hot 100 has decreased by 20 seconds in the past five years. Songs now average 3 minutes and 30 seconds — and are steadily shrinking.

6% of hit songs also averaged 2 minutes and 30 seconds or shorter last year, and sub-3 minute songs are becoming increasingly common.

I wanted to go ol' skool and celebrate some of my fav long-ass singles --- and the passing of a generation of music that I doubt will ever be back again:

Australia

"What happened in Australia provides a concrete example of how a healthy democracy can confront powerful interests to introduce rational policies that clearly benefit the country. The Australian success story also reminds us what a dismal outlier the United States remains in terms of gun violence and political will even in the face of the most gruesome and abhorrent of all mass shootings: the killings of schoolchildren."

Rutgers doesn’t make the show

The NCAA baseball parings were just announced and Rutgers didn’t get in. No doubt there are a lot of parts to this, bid stealers, including Michigan, general northern teams difficulties & Rutgets had a weak non conference strength of schedule to name a few.

IMO the B1G lack of emphasis contributes to this instance for Rutgers and difficulties for league teams getting national traction in general. The B1G broke from the ACC, SEC, & PAC12 (I think w/o looking it up) in voting against a 3rd paid assistant. Baseball has a poor player to coach ratio and this 3rd assistant has been an issue for a longtime. I think there had been some consensus building to pushing the season back a couple weeks along with the MLB draft, which the northern teams need. I think that momentum has waned. The B1G 2021 COVID season approach had impacts inside the league and outside.

I feel bad for the Rutgers kids and their coach. They had a good season.

*clean up aisle 2

Even though I have had my booster, I still tested positive for Covid this morning.

I was planning to play nine holes tonight, but I don't want to expose others to my germs. My understanding is you normally only have to wait five days to get well. If that is the case, I probably will be able to play golf Sunday and Memorial Day.

Any suggestions? I'm now working from home the rest of the week so I don't expose people to it. My wife tested positive for it Monday evening.

This new generation has no concept how to interact

Am I becoming an old man? I’m still in my late 30’s.

Went on a hiking trip this last week. Absolutely epic. 40 miles in 48 hours and almost a mile of elevation gain. Anyway, just an observation. It’s normally common on a trail to acknowledge someone you pass. Eye contact, nod, hello, something. Everyone in the early or mid 20’s you can almost see the stress in their eyes when they see you coming. They either look down, or give that glassy stare into space. It’s weird! I’ve noticed how weird they act in meetings at work. They’re scared to death to interact and will absolutely never use the phone when a simple 5 minute conversation is better than trading 6 emails and wasting their and my time.

Old man rant over.

Will NIL money....

be a major factor in College Baseball decisions. Would really suck to lose some of our good young players to SEC or ACC schools due to NIL. I guess we could end up ponying up for some talented backups from the same Schools. Will be interesting to watch. Just don't want to be the training grounds to feed the better programs.
