Michigan looks beatable...

...having said that...we need to continue to improve (and they'll likely improve)...and they're playing the #3 ranked Longhorns.

but their passing game looks to be poor...defense has been uninspired (that turnover at the end of the half did not help the D) and does not look to be as dominate as they seemed last year...

Industrial Farms

Saw “Food, Inc” several years ago and it changed my eating habits forever. The small farm coops are making a comeback, but buying from them is expensive, for obvious reasons. As more jump on board with getting away from processed foods these prices will fall. This is a groundswell movement being helped by the Huberman’s, Attia’s and Rogans. Hoping this continues.

Ideas to keep fans in seats all game long....

I am sure this has been discussed many, many times, but Cig noted it in his post-game comments. So what can be done?

Some (maybe dumb) ideas.

1) Turn in ticket with 5 min left in game or after for free IU gear.

2) Free or discounted food in the 4th quarter.

3) Optionally, you can have your ticket scanned when leaving to accumulate points to use for better seats next season, apply points for basketball season, or other gear.

Probably some logistical issues with some of them.

What say you?

MAGA v. Taylor Swift

Now they're after her. Seems her first sin was endorsing Biden in 2020 and then, more recently, encouraging fans on Instagram to register to vote! (What the hell is wrong with her?!). There was an immediate surge of 35,000 registrations in response. Next, she's got the audacity to date a pro-vaccine athlete from the woke NFL. Now it's being reported that the Biden campaign is looking for a repeat endorsement from her.

My favorite quote regarding Swift is a comment from a pro-Trump Newsmax guy who believes Swift is the object of "sinful idolatry." Let that marinate for a minute. The guy is pro-Trump and is concerned about someone else being the object of idolatry.

Sinful idolatry - - did anyone say that about Sinatra? Elvis? The Beatles? Yeah, I guess someone probably did.

Highlights from the article below:
  • Pro-Trump broadcaster Mike Crispi: The NFL is "rigged" in order to "spread Democrat propaganda." "Calling it now: KC wins [the AFC championship], goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and 'endorses' Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield."
  • Ramaswamy: "I wonder who's going to win the Super Bowl next month, and I wonder if there's a major presidential endorsement coming from an artifically culturally propped-up couple this fall."
  • Other Swift detractors: Alina Habba, conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec and MAGA stars Laura Loomer and Charlie Kirk.
The NFL playoffs' TV ratings (and not just the Chiefs games, btw) have been off the charts this year. Chiefs/Ravens averaged 56 million viewers, the most-watched AFC Championship game ever. Sounds like there's a fanbase of a certain orange-complected celebrity that's very concerned about someone else's enormous popularity - - and influence.

I'm as sick of Swift and Kelce as the next guy, but this is horseshit. People need to get a life. If Swift endorses Biden, that's her right, and so fvcking what? I'm sure Trump will be able to snag some key endorsements - - - maybe Scott Baio, Kid Rock and Jon Voight.

Portal news - 2024...

Now that the season is over for us, I thought I would start a thread where all of the portal news coming out would be under one thread and not spread out. The portal opened for baseball on the date the tournament field was announced which would be May 27th and it's open for 45 days. That would put the window closing around July 10 or 11 for players to enter the portal and be eligible for next season. There are exceptions to the eligibility rules with players being able to transfer whenever there is a head coaching change or there are changes in financial aid from previous years. There might be some other exceptions that I'm unaware of. Hopefully, I've got all of that right.

Right now, the only name in the portal that's listed for IU is Brooks Ey and I don't remember him being on the opening day roster. He's listed as entering the portal on 05-25-2024 which is a couple of days before the portal opened on selection Monday, and I don't know the situation on that, but that date may be for players that were officially on the roster ending May 27th.

Colt's Dad charged with 2nd degree murder (4 counts)...

I'm going to start a new thread (which anyone is entitled to skip) because there are some serious issues being reported in the Winder shooting...

First of all I was struck, since the suspects name was released, by the unintentional irony of a mass shooter having the name "Colt". Of course his parents may have named him after a young horse. But with some of the details emerging about his parent, it seems more likely to me that they either named him after Samuel Colt or the type of weapons Sam Colt manufactured... That's an aside...

But there are some really troubling aspects to this case that you may or may not have heard in passing. Colt lived with his Dad, while Mom was raising the 2 daughters. The relationship seems a mite acrimonious as Mom was arrested last year for keying Dad's truck. Also when Mom was physically arrested they found her in possession of both meth and fentanyl, as well as a glass pipe.

GA has no "red flag laws", so even though LEO's questioned both father and son last year over a possible threat regarding a school shooting, they both just denied any knowledge. I think Colt even claimed someone hacked his Discord. Ultimately since no crime had actually occurred there was really nothing police could do. Another interesting tidbit, the tip to police came from Discord users in both CA and Australia, which both have very stringent rules regarding gun ownership.

So in this local report from Fox 5 Atlanta, there is some audio of how the questioning session went. Dad admits that his son has access to the weapons but claims they aren't loaded. He also maintained that he was trying to promote a healthy outdoor lifestyle for his son, and keep him away from "video games", because as the NRA will tell you video games and the violence they promote are one of the reasons the US has so many school shootings. Makes you wonder what will happen in schools around the world when the rest of the world Discovers video games...

Dad further explained that he and Colt liked to hunt together, and seemed proud that his 13 yr old son bagged his first deer. Now you'd think that after a visit from law enforcement Dad would at least keep an eye on his son and maybe limit his access to the weapons till he got older. But instead Dad decided it made sense to buy Colt an AR 15 for Christmas, presumably so Colt could shoot more deer...

Of course during the interview Dad also brings up the issue of his son being picked on at school, and recounts some examples. No doubt that will be offered as a possible motive. But here's the fly in that ointment imho...

The interview was conducted last year. Post interview two key events occurred, the first being Dad buying the rifle. But the 2nd was Colt and Dad moved, as Colt transitioned from Jr High to High School. But he didn't just change buildings, but they moved into a completely different District in a different county.. So I guess we're supposed to believe that two totally different sets of students in two seperate school districts uniformly decided to "pick on" the kid in successive years? Now imho, that's a hell of a coincidence...

Now obviously the kid should never have access to a weapon. But this is a prime example of parents (at least a father) who should also not have access to weapons. Imho, someone this irresponsible should not be allowed to own firearms. I'm not even sure they should be allowed to have kids...

Thoughts?

UCLA bye week - Good or Bad?

I'm thinking that UCLA having a bye week after playing only 1 game might be a positive for IU. Game day experience is the best teacher. More stuff on tape to digest and correct, etc.. Coach Cig even mentioned during his post game presser that his team had a "couple" of things to clean up after Friday's game. MUCH different than the presser after the first game. If we are playin UCLA game 6 or 7 coming off a bye week, no question it would be an advantage for them. But the bye week after only 1 game????? Might actually be a positive for us. Oh and BTW, they have LSU to look forward to after us. MEH showing their first game. I like our chances.

What do Dave Rubin,Tim Pool and (dmb fave) Bennie Johnson have in common?

The average person has likely never heard of them. Yet...

They are all 3 part of the "Bro network" of far right commentators with their own youtube channels. All of them are internet famous and all of them have channels with over a million or more subscribers.Content from all 3 come across my subscription playlist daily,, so II feel comfortable in saying that none of them strike me as mensa level content creators. They have figured out that grifting the right wing is a tried and true formula, and as a result they make far more than what I feel their intelligence should warrant. But evidently thousands of paying customers view them differently...

But they may be about to progress from internet fame, to a level of scrutiny and exposure they might not actually want. We had a thread on the DOJ announcing a probe of Russian election interference today, and the breaking news is that 2 Russian businessmen have been indicted. The charges include money laundering and failing to egister as foreign agents. The two men are connected with Russia Today (RT) which is basically Putin's private propaganda network and are charged with funneling millions of $$ to a variety of shell companies leading to a media publisher (Tenet Media) that publishes pro-Russian videos on Tik Tok,Twitter, Instagram and youtube.

And Tenet Media features 6 commenters as it's "talent" including Rubin,Pool and Benny. Now none of the 6 are included in the indictment and they will likely maintain that they were unwittingly used. But if you examine the content produced by all 3 you'll easily notice the pro-Russia/anti-Ukraine orientation as well as the very pronouced pro Tump theme which permeates everything they do. Tenet worked in tandem with RT, but the connection was never disclosed. And it appears the stated aim was to exacerbate political differences in the US in the interest of the Russians.

An example of the type of misinformation they spread, was the claim that the terrorists who attacked the Moscow music Hall were from Ukraine. Even though the perps were arrested and the Islamic State claimed responsibility, RT thru Tenet and it's talent ran a campaign to discredit the Islamic State connection and tried to pin the blame on Ukraine.RT hired trolls to infiltrate the discord and comments sections of content produced by Tenet's talent who pretended to be members/followers urging them to publish more of the pro-Russian video content. From Oct 2023 to Aug 2024 the Indictment alleges that RT sent wire transfers totalling 9.7 Million to Tenet and Tenet in turn paid 8,7 Million of that to the production companies of the 3 stooges...

Here is an example of the content created. This is Tim Pool, and his beanie...

Hard not to be excited

I find it hard to not be excited heading into next week's game with UCLA. Of all the positives in yesterday's blowout win, perhaps Rourke impressed me the most. He seems to throw a very good ball that's pretty darn accurate.

I watched UCLA last week against Hawaii and they looked mediocre. I understand it'll be a challenge but the road to a bowl goes through beating UCLA.

One tidbit to mention was the defense showing discipline on several occasions as WIU receivers were being pushed out of bounds. In many cases under TA, the Indiana defender would often hit the WR out of bounds incurring a late hit penalty. It's soooo nice to see some discipline for once!
