NCAA D3 team launches 111 3-pointers in a game

Grinnell went 40-of-111 and won 124-67 over some Bible College to improve their record to 4-6.

For years they've used a unique offensive system based on the ideas of Paul Westhead at Loyola Marymount in the 1980s and fine-tuned by David Arsenault at Grinnell, which is about halfway between Des Moines and Iowa City. The philosophy is predicated on quick shots, prioritizing 3-pointers, constant full-court pressure and crashing the offensive glass.

In 2012, Grinnell guard Jack Taylor sent an NCAA record with 138 points in a game. He also scored 109 points in a game the following year, while former players Griffin Lentsch and Jeff Clement also held Division III scoring records.

Iowa….

….have 3 white goons with bowl haircuts and are absolute bullies. They do all the really petty intimidation tactics, deliberately shouldering guys down the court after a made basket. Especially this this thug Rebraca . He may be worse than Jess Settles. Cannot believe they would get away with this type of play away from home.

YOU be the coach.

We saw a very aggressive Rutgers team take IU completely out of their game by out working IU. Part of their game plan was to limit TJD offensively as much as possible. One of the commentators stated that Rutgers has given other Big Ten teams the blueprint for beating IU. If so, we can expect other teams to use a similar approach.

So, if this is a strong possibility, how would you game plan to handle this strategy? Would you have our guards crash the boards to limit second chance shots by the other team? Would you play TJD more at a high post so he can drive with space before the double/triple comes which may give him more passing angles? Would you try more pick and rolls? Would you change the strating line-up?

Let's hear from you "recliner coaches" and what you would do.

Dakich is out at 107.5... last show was today....

Since Smulyan sold the EMMIS stations there have been all kinds of changes at the 93.1/107.5 building...

I guess Radio One isn't willing to pay... even though his numbers were pretty decent.

DD is making it sound like he's wanting to focus on his @OnKick pods/show

I'd listen on occasion and he'd did have the contacts to know what was going on.... but, I'm kinda glad he's gone.... Being a former broadcaster his style rubbed me as too antagonizing... blasting people is one thing but blasting them one day and them praising them the next.... a real hypocrite.

OT - IU Men's Soccer vs. Pitt Tonight (Friday) for National Semi-final at 8:30 EST 0n ESPNU/ESPN Watch

Forecast calls for mid-40s, 5-8 mph breeze and an IU victory. Go Hoosiers.

Galloway/Bates

Woodson was criticized in another article about his substitution pattern or playing time with Bates. I think Bates performance was spotty and the playing time was warranted as a freshman. This year Bates seems to have much upside and hopefully we'll see the results. The big guard/small forward will be a crowded position with much competition for playing time. If Galloway continues to be a non threat from the outside I don't see how you can play him. I love his hustle, but he has to step up this year. I'm rooting for Bates with a break out year.

IU ladies survive horrible first period to beat PSU, 67-58...

IU played their absolutely worst 1st period of the season at PSU, and the 2nd period wasn't much better, and you could say that IU probably missed the steadying influence of Grace Berger in this game. IU leads the B1G and is No. 5 in the NCAA in committing the fewest turnovers at 11 a game, but IU committed 9 turnovers in the 1st period alone, and were at 12 turnovers at the half. IU shot the ball better than PSU in the half, but PSU had 13 more FGAs than IU in the half because of the turnovers. Despite all of the turnovers, IU had the lead at the end of the 1st, 16-15. In the 2nd, PSU went on a 5-0 run to start it to take a 20-16 lead and maintain a small lead for the rest of the half leading IU 29-26 at the half. Garzon and Parrish had 9 turnovers between them and also picked up 2 fouls each in the half, and it's the first time this season that IU has trailed at the half. In the 3rd, PSU managed to keep a small lead until around the midway mark when IU took the lead on a 3 by Parrish to give IU a 35-34 lead. IU started adding to that lead and with a 3 by Moore-McNeil at the 2:27 mark of the 3rd, had taken a lead of 44-36, which tied the lead that IU had in the 1st. IU had at lead of 48-40 at the end of the 3rd after having the lead up to 10 a couple of times, and IU did not have a turnover in the 3rd. In the 4th, IU opened it up with a 7-0 run to lead 55-40. PSU got hot at the end of the 4th and pulled within 8 at the 2-minute mark and then pulled within 7 at 63-56 on one FT by PSU at the 1:34 mark with Garzon fouling out. IU committed four turnovers late in the game to give PSU a chance to cut into the lead. IU held PSU's Makenna Marisa, one of the top scorers in the B1G, to 12 points on 5 of 18 shooting and two points were given to her at the end of the game. Moore-McNeil had another great game overall, and along with Holmes, helped keep IU close to PSU in the first half. Holmes had another big day scoring on 8 of 12 for 18 points and 10 rebs. Parrish had 16 points with Moore-McNeil scoring 11 points. IU finished with 17 turnovers, six over their game average. IU has a 10-day break and hopefully they get Geary back during that period. Who knows when Grace will be back.

Potentially good news for us

Wisconsin's new OC is an Air Raid guy...a big change in direction for the players that Wisky has. This leads me to think a bunch of Wisconsin offensive players, especially offensive linemen, could be looking for a new home. Perhaps our new OL coach can steer a couple of them to Bloomington.
