Shanahan

Just listened to Joel Klatt’s podcast and he urged Oklahoma to hire a fresh new OC for 2025, and specifically he mentioned Shanahan. No doubt Oklahoma could pay him $2mill if they really want him, but I think it would be risky to join Venable given his hot seat status. I hope Dolson and Cigs can keep his staff together for at least a few more years, they are doing an amazing job.

You're officially on notice

The Purdue "IU SUCKS" thing at kickoffs all season irritates me because it bring such little brother energy. If anything makes me happy it's that they've had so few opportunities to do it at home this year since the Indiana State opener.

Secondarily, I'm convinced that regardless of what happens in Columbus in two weeks, Cig is going to do his damnedest to hang 80 points on the Boilers at the OOB game.

So here's the plan. Every time they get the ball, every time they're getting ready for one of the many....many.....kickoffs coming their way, we're going to make the stadium do a call & response. East side "Purdue" West side "Sucks." For an entire possession. Hell, if you're feeling froggy, for the entire game when they've got the ball.

"IU sucks," "First down bitch," all of it has to go. It's unbecoming. It's douchey. It ends this year. I want to take their spirit. I want their souls to leave their bodies. I want to see their players cry in shame. I want an entire thread on their forum to be dedicated to how it looks/sounds on TV when the announcers have no choice but to talk about an undefeated IU squad absolutely curb stomping a 1-10 PU team and completely mocking their pick-me rituals.

This is the assignment. Tell your friends.

Who would have ever thought

That being 10-0 would piss off so many people?
This whole thing is just bizarre,I bet they spent 30 minutes of a 60 minute show talking about IU.
It’s like the old saying, there is no such thing as bad publicity or something like that.
It’s really opened my eyes to just how freaking bat sh** crazy the SEC fanbases are when it comes to football, they are not rational people.
I can’t imagine how pissed off they will all be if we beat Ohio Stste but I’d sure like to find out.

Is Saturday's game the biggest in IU football history?

Here's a good piece from Matthew Glenesk of the IndyStar.

It's hard to argue with the five games he ranks at the top. Hard to believe one of them was just four years ago.

Some may argue that the 2007 Bucket game doesn't belong on the list. Neither team was ranked, Purdue had already clinched bowl eligibility, but we needed a seventh win that season to make a bowl, and we got it. The emotion of the game after Hep's passing, and the dramatic finish with Austin Starr's 49-yard FG, make it worthy, in my opinion, of Top 5 consideration. And the electricity in the stadium that afternoon/evening was the most I've ever experienced at the Rock.

Here's the link. If it's behind a paywall, my apologies. Just in case, these are the Top 5 (in addition to our game this Saturday) that rank among IU's all-time biggest games:

  • 1945 Bucket game, capping the only undefeated season in IU history and a conference championship
  • 1967 Bucket game, with a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line
  • 1987 IU at Michigan State for first place in the conference and a trip to the Rose Bowl (if we followed up a W in East Lansing with a W over Purdue). Sadly, we lost to the Spartans.
  • 2007 Bucket/Play 13/Austin Starr game (see above)
  • 2020 #9 IU at #3 Ohio State. Huge comeback and huge game for Michael Penix, but we came up a TD short.

what kind of formula is used to make the schedules in the big and sec

in fairness the committee does have an impossible task, and the super conferences have only made it worse, never understood the 12-team playoff, should have been 16, if it's going to take 4 weekends to playout the tournament why build in byes? why is Boise at this point going to get a bye when not even rated in the top 10?

OSU defensive front

And can Indiana win? UM definitely disrupted IU's offense and OSU is better up front. Down a key guy and needing far and away thier best game, the IU O line is the key to this game. If they can provide just enough room for the QB to stay in rhythm, I think IU makes this a game. The IU defense is capable of keeping it close. OSU has elite athletes in the secondary, but if IU has time to execute they can win battles down field.

It's a huge challenge for the big boys up front. Too much shock and awe to really talk football on this board. It's normally just arguing about firing the coach at this time of year.
