NYP article on Ryder Anderson (Giants)

Undrafted Giants defensive lineman Ryder Anderson eyes biggest win yet

Across his back is a tattoo that reads “Wins and Losses” over one of himself.

“I just feel like that’s life,” Ryder Anderson tells The Post.” You’re gonna go through a lot of wins and losses, and it’s about how you respond.”

In virtually every training camp, there inevitably emerges one Boy of Summer who comes out of nowhere, an undrafted free agent defensive lineman such as Ryder Anderson who kept getting knocked down and kept getting back up. And now Anderson, whose brother Rodney was a running back drafted in 2019 by the Bengals, is on the brink of realizing an improbable dream that was crystallized as a young boy by the sight of his uncle Mark sacking Peyton Manning in Super Bowl XLI with the Bears.

“I’ve had a long path of failures and trials,” Anderson tells you.

But now? Now he is entering the fourth quarter of the greatest win of his football life.

He is a 6-foot-6, 285-pound defensive end-tackle out of Katy, Texas, and Ole Miss and Indiana who has opened enough eyes to make you believe that he may have found a home with the New York Football Giants against all odds.

“Every day I come here I just feel so blessed to even be here,” Anderson says. “I just work my hardest just to stay here, you know what I’m saying?”

Everyone who knows his journey knows what he’s saying.

Losses.

On Sunday night against the Bengals, watch No. 90, Ryder Anderson, on the defensive line and on special teams.

“That underdog mentality,” his uncle Mark tells The Post, “is what you see on the field.”

Wins.

Mark Anderson recorded 12 sacks as a rookie fifth-round draft choice in 2006. He also sacked Eli Manning in Super Bowl XLVI with the Patriots. Ryder would stay over at his uncle’s home in Atlanta during offseasons and train with him.

“I was just trying to get him on a Pro Bowl level early so he already had that mentality and that mindset,” Mark says.

That mentality and that mindset has been on full display at 1925 Giants Drive.

“I just want to play fast and aggressive,” Ryder says. “I’m gonna run to the ball and make sure I’m giving 100 percent.”

It’s working. “The ball finds him,” assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox said.

Ryder has a different personality than Kayvon Thibodeaux.

“He’s quieter, but he’s funnier,” Cox said. “He just says some stuff like a good old country boy would say. He thinks he can freestyle rap, so he’ll try to rap to you. He has a personality that he’s not intimidated by the moment, or the times.”

Mark Anderson will be in the MetLife stands Sunday night to watch. On Ryder’s left arm is a tattoo that reads “Ambition.” On his right arm: “Blessed.”

Wins.

Monkey Pox - Call a Spade a Spade

The media will likely do it's best to avoid calling this what it is, a disease spread amongst gay men. But they won't. When you see children getting the disease and the parents are gay, CPS should be called. And now, in France, this poor dog. People are sick. If we had a media that wasn't so woke, they'd come out and ease any and all fears that says unless you are having sex with another gay man, you have nothing to worry about here. This is disgusting.

A little Indiana history and peek at attitudes about the poor

The ELKHART COUNTY ASYLUM

"In the early forties (1840's)," according to Mr. P. M. Henkel, "there was no asylum for the care of the poor and indigent persons. Such as were dependent upon public charity were farmed out by the county commissioners for their support by the year to the lowest responsible bidder. At this date (1845) but two persons in the county were thus provided for. The first farm purchase by the county to be used as an asylum for the poor was located in Jefferson township and consisted of eighty acres. A superintendent was appointed and all indigent persons transferred to his care." This poor farm was two and a half miles northwest of Goshen, and was known as the Adam Harman farm.

In 1847 Miss Dix, the eminent philanthropist and reformer of prison conditions, visited on her tour of inspection the institutions of Elkhart County, and her strictures relative to the county poor farm were especially severe. The poor house, to quote Miss Dix's report as it appeared in a local paper of that year, "is situated several miles from Goshen, and has a farm of eighty acres, forty of which are cultivated. No dwelling is as yet constructed for the poor of sufficient capacity for their suitable accommodation. The situation of this establishment is remote and difficult of access." Only three individuals were kept there at the county expense at that time, so that it is hardly surprising that the home had not yet reached the dignity and efficiency of a public institution.

Perhaps this criticism led to the action of the county board in 1853 by which a substantial building was planned for the accommodation of the county's almoners. This house was erected on Elkhart prairie, five miles southeast of Goshen, on the old Fort Wayne road. The poor house burned in February, 1871, but was replaced by another in the summer of that year. In 1882 the county commissioners traded with W. D. Platter for a marsh farm of 453 acres between Bristol and Elkhart in the St. Joseph river. This trade was recinded by the new board of commissioners elected in 1882, and, Platter refusing to surrender the old farm, a law suit followed. The case was in the courts two years, was tried in the circuit court at LaGrange before Judge Robert Lowry, of Fort Wayne, who decided in favor of the county. Platter took an appeal to the supreme court, where Judge Lowry's decision was affirmed, so that the county continued in the possession of its farm on Elkhart prairie several years longer.

In 1885 the farm in the prairie was sold, and the site of the present institution was bought of David Rupp, for the sun of five thousand dollars. The present Elkhart County farm is located at Dunlaps, in Concord township, half way between Goshen and Elkhart, and is reached by the Inter-Urban electric line. The farm contains one hundred and twenty acres, and the entire institution is a credit to the county. If Miss Dix were alive to-day and could visit this asylum her adverse criticism would, without doubt, be turned to words of praise and admiration of the efficient way in which the eleemosynary affairs of the county are administered.

The asylum building, which was erected in 1886, the original contract price being $18,800, is a brick building, two stories and basement, containing sixty-five rooms. The east side is for the women inmates, and the west for the men. At the time of the present writing an addition, 31 by 60 feet, is being built, in which will be located the hospital department, the rooms for the insane and the cells for the unmanageable inmates. At the present time there are 58 persons in the institution, this being about the average number. The largest number during the past year was 79 and the lowest 50. The present superintendent is Mr. John L. Warden, and under his direction are three lady employes, two men in the house and one on the farm, besides the fireman and janitor."

Mike Davis Jr & Antoine

Flew into LA yesterday and was not having a good go of it - I’ll spare you. Was waiting in a car rental shop for my car and a young man walked up to me, pointed at my shirt (I always wear a long sleeve IU hoodie on plane flights because they keep it so damn cold), smiled and said I’m Mike Davis Jr. I was taken aback, being where I was in LA (long story), shook hands and just said wow it’s great to meet you. He looked over his right shoulder and said that’s Antoine over there. I just laughed.

Obviously, they look nothing like they did when we all were first introduced to the Davis family, and I was having serious good flashbacks there in that moment with those two. They couldn’t have been more kind and genuine, two solid young men that I’m sure their Dad is very proud of.

I just got honest and said “your Dad found himself in a very tough situation but handled it with the ultimate grace. I always thought a lot of your Dad and especially his passion for the game. Please tell him thank you for his years at IU.” They smiled and said they would. I ended it with telling them how cool this was to meet them and thanks for coming over to introduce yourselves.

Made my day.

I took a cool picture of them but have no idea how to upload it here or if that’s even possible? I don’t have a site to post it to for a link so I’m not sure?

Las Vegas New Mexico . . .

Is about out of potable water, Why? The United States Forrest Servive started a controlled burn as part of forest management. The only problem is they started the burn in hot dry weather, it quickly raged out of control, and resulted in the largest wild fire in New Mexico history. It destroyed the watershed around Las Vegas. Now with late summer rains two of the three reservoirs providing water are useless and the third has less than a month’s supply.

Emergency filtration facilities will provide a temporary fix. The state stepped up with funding. But, where is the EPA? I thought clean water was part of its mission, especially here where the feds caused the water problem. Crickets. I’m old enough to remember when the democrats were going crazy over Flint Michigan‘s water issue. What’s the difference with Las Vegas? Well in Michigan, the democrats targeted a Republican Governor. Here, Democrats run the federal and state government so there is no narrative to push. Is that the difference? Nah.

New Mexico is a relatively poor state. The feds are sitting this one out— except for the meager watershed remediation the Forrest service provides.

Read about it here. FYI, we have eaten often at Charlie’s Bakery mentioned in the link. They serve the best green chili between Albuquerque and Denver.

2023 F Arrinten Page update...

Indiana's lone remaining class of 2023 target Arrinten Page has cancelled his visit to Miami this weekend, he tells TheHoosier.com.

He is rescheduling it due to a funeral service for one of the Wheeler (Ga.) high school basketball members from a few years ago -- also the current head coach, Larry Thompson's son.

Obviously a lot going on at the moment with that community.

Boy these women get mean. They're really going after Hef. Good thing he's dead.

i made the mistake of clicking on one of these damn articles and now i'm inundated with them. and i keep clicking them so i keep getting more. they hate ole hef, vacillating between hatred and making fun of him. brutal.

Ray Guy nominee

James Evans looks to improve his 41 yard average, and be more consistent this year.

Teagarden has James working on recognizing the return team’s rush.

OTE celebrated the Big Ten history of three runs and a punt with their ‘punting is winning’ series last fall.

We could use James near the top of their metric leaderboard this season. He’s got the leg talent.

Six Reasons this Offensive Coaching Staff Can Succeed

1) Walt Bell is only 38 years old. Bell went from Graduate Assistant to Assistant Head Coach in only 7 seasons. That's pretty impressive.
2) Bell already has 3 years of experience as a Head Coach and 6 years of play-calling experience (including 2021 when he called plays at UMass as Head Coach)
3) Bell coached in 10 Bowl Games between 2006 and 2016
4) Between Co-Offensive Coordinator / Wide Receivers Coach Adam Henry and Associate Head Coach / Running Backs Coach Craig Johnson there is a combined 32 years of experience coaching in the NFL.
5) TE Coach Kevin Wright was one of the best High School Head Coaches in the Country when he came to Indiana. Wright's overall head coaching record is 229-65 (.779). His resume boasts 4 state championships, 8 Top-10 National Rankings, three straight undefeated seasons, five straight Top 6 rankings nationally and 2 State Runners-up.
6) Players tutored include Saquon Barkely, Odell Beckham Jr., Anquan Blodin, Amari Cooper, Chris Johson, CeeDee Lamb, Jarvis Landry and Zach Miller.

If these guys have good chemistry and are able to collaborate and delegate effectively that can go a long way toward getting things moving back in the right direction.

Caleb Jones 338 lbs making noise at Packer camp.

As I recall he graded out last year as the worst pass blocking lineman for the Hoosiers. The only thing he was really successful at was marketing his father's restaurant.

So how does someone go from being a punchline of a joke to possibly being a player in the National Football League? Perhaps it has something to do with coaching?

OT: Do you have a “second team?”

You know, another school you follow for whatever reason: not living in Big Ten country, feeling of moral obligation, need to further fill the constricted intellectual horizon with which you live, etc.?

Here’s mine.

PURDUE, men’s basketball and football. My wife is an alum and relies on me to keep her informed. Also, my son is good at math and hot to attend someday.

WABASH, football. I derive a certain strange satisfaction from knowing everyone on the field is literate.

Shoot me.
