Kelly on Trump

So, you agree Trump is no more of an authoritarian than previous Presidents?
Oh, I don’t know. It’s not a simple thing to evaluate.

I do think he has authoritarian impulses - as he’s spent his entire adult life having total control over his organizations, seems wholly unwilling to take advice or helpful criticism, thinks he can do everything better than anybody else, etc.

As to a comparison with other recent presidents, I honestly don’t know.

I just heard Tim Clifford died yesterday

This was confirmed with ESPN guys I talked to at Nicks tonight. They were really surprised people knew about it. 😎
That’s good news. I thought he was kidding about the return of the double decker bus. I was there for that game in 1973, Corso’s first. The bus full of players and coaches was part of his introductory circus act. Ironically, I was just thinking the other day, wondering whatever happened to that bus. I guess I’m about to find out. They can’t drive it onto the field now since the end zones have been enclosed.

None of what he wants to do will do anything but harm the longer term goals of any conservative, who's goals should be limiting executive power.

Greatly strengthening the power of the executive office - beyond how much it's already grown...just furthers the aims of future Dem administrations to also dictate via execution action.
Can’t disagree with that.

Although it’s not only executive power I’d like to see limited. I’d like to see general governmental power reined in.

I appreciate Crazed who hates both but will vote Trump because he believes Harris is worse. I have the opposite conclusion but his overall take is correct.
I’m not voting for Trump. Been there, done that — and I’ll never cast another vote for him again.

And I’ve also never said that Harris was worse. I think they’re both bad…just for different reasons. And it’s not just about Trump’s temperament or character, either. He has some terrible policy positions and he had an atrocious fiscal record as president. And that’s my #1 priority.

It's quite an experiment we're watching play out. I think he's on the right track.... But realistically he's done the easy part.

The hard part is getting it to hold in the coming years, long enough they can get to the other side. Their recession continues to deepen and definitely going to be a lot of pain for the lower classes. Making it through that politically long term will be a minefield
I completely agree. And tbh, I think the odds of success are probably against him.

But he’s done pretty well thus far, anyway. He’s just a total outlier among world leaders, though.

Meh, you are way off base and out on left field. Schwarbs while not an MVP was a valuable piece on both teams. And Vic would have been a fine choice also. This is for us and I could give less than a crap if Betty in Vermont doesn’t know who he is.
No, I'm not. I yawned just listening to you explain your perspective. It makes sense why you like it.

No need to debate. Provide specifics examples of him being more of an authoritarian than Obama, Bush, or Biden.
We could do that all day. And I never made any such comparison.

It’s authoritarian for Biden to seek putting hundreds of billions of dollars of student debt on the taxpayers’ bill without any statutory authority from Congress. Absolutely indefensible, for several reasons.

But Trump similarly sidestepped Congress by reallocating funds appropriated for defense to construction of border wall.

I just heard Tim Clifford died yesterday

IU played Kentucky in 79. My family and the Corso family were friends.

Dad had a VCR and had taped the game (if memory serves it was on CBS that year).

Clifford, Steve Corso (a WR on the team and I think Steve may have had the winning catch in that game), Tim Wilbur and a couple of other players came to the house to watch the broadcast. They came pretty late in the evening and we got to stay up and meet them.

Lee used to poke a little fun at Steve...when he'd make a catch in a game...Lee would say "well that catch was so easy his mom could've made it. Little 8/9 yo me eventually asked Mrs. Corso if that hurt Steve's feelings and she assured me that Coach Corso praised Steve in private.

That was a neat team. The Corso family remains one of my favorite 'friend families' of all time.
Both Bob Knight and Lee Corso came with high entertainment value as a bonus to their hirings. Archie Miller and Mike Woodson? None. Tom Crean and Curt Cignetti, each a little bit of it.

So I was in Btown today and saw them setting up by the stadium. Dinner at Nicks and some ESPN guys were shooting some film there. They sat and talked to us for about 15 minutes. We were giving them food recommendations, etc. Most of them hadn’t been to Bloomington before but were very complimentary and excited to be someplace different. I asked if Lee was with them and they said he’s probably in bed. ( this was at 7). I also asked about the double decker bus. He was really surprised I knew about it, asked me who my contacts were, and called the other people over to tell them we knew about it. Can’t remember who first mentioned that. Victor? Anyway a really fun conversation and nice guys.

Close enough. The point is I don’t have unlimited choices. It’s Trump or Harris. The constant bullshit of trying to turn it into something else is stupid. It comes down to who you are more comfortable with. I hate Democrats and others hate Trump, end of story.

For me, no one here can find any posts where I say Harris is a good candidate, or would make a good president. I appreciate Crazed who hates both but will vote Trump because he believes Harris is worse. I have the opposite conclusion but his overall take is correct.

My issue, and fear, are with those who legitimately believe Trump can do no wrong.

Harris may have those backers, I do not see them.

My choices are a woefully unprepared candidate or a senile old man with a severe narcissistic disorder who scams people for a living. I will take the woefully unprepared.

I needed confirmation...but the Red River Shootout games were really the only GameDays I can remember for noon games (3:30 this year, though).

That said...given this setup...I firmly believe the last hour of the show this week, given our noon start, will be either where the Fox setup was last week on the field, or up on the deck behind/next to the band on the north end.
I think I read they would be moving inside the stadium at 11:30, Tough decision for kids who want to get on Game Day but also good seats for football. Heard some kids are camping out.
