Probably.
But the private sector went this way a long time ago. As somebody who employs a fair number of people, I can tell you point blank that college degrees are among the most overrated credentials a person can have (at least to us)
They're necessary for many professions (pharmacy, law, medicine, engineering, some STEM fields, etc.). But for many, they aren't. There are going to be public sector jobs (like in the private sector) where these are necessary. But, for most jobs, they are not. They're a waste of money and time.
