TONS of controversy here with teams like Bama getting in over Ole Miss, despite Ole Miss handling Bama. And then Texas getting in over Texas A&M, despite losing to them...with the main reason being A&M then losing in SEC title game. Gonna be LOTS of holes in the decisions this year.

Nick’s or Yogi’s?

Purdue fan … coming from out of town … shouldn’t we suggest he try Shalooby’s??
Mentally preparing myself for a heathy dose of trash talk- I suppose Purdue has it coming after our nice little string of Bucket wins lately…

I’ll likely be stuck clinging to memories of better days with the likes of Mark Herrmann, Rod Woodson, and Mike Alstott.

Cheers!

Democrats have left moderate voters behind

I agree. State's rights is a reasonable excuse for the GOP and the most rational currently, as well. Assuming someone'e objective is to limit as many abortions as possible.
You guys sound like Dems -- although I'd be willing to bet that you'd object to that and so would most of our resident Dems.

The crux of your discussion isn't about where the issue actually belongs, but why you'd prefer to have it here or there for reasons of preferred outcome.

I think the issue belongs in the state legislatures (permanently), because that's where the text says it belongs. The 10th amendment exists for the sole purpose of delegating those matters which are not assigned to the 3 branches of the federal government to the states. That's for constitutional reasons.

For political reasons, I also think state legislators would be wise to keep it legal with some reasonable restrictions.

However, if voters in a state elect governments who wish to prohibit abortion entirely, I'm fine with that too. That's how representative government is supposed to work.

Video games other millennial dads question

I always wanted the big train set but never had the space or the time and eventually grew out of it. Now, I watch Youtube videos about these crazy ****ers and their ridiculous setups. I'll only have that kind of time again in retirement but, by then, I won't be able to see shit.
Let’s be honest here. At this point we would just use it to serve drinks.

Sec of Education - Holy Moly

I agree with them wholeheartedly.

The Dept. of Education has been a massive failure. Education is clearly an issue better handled by the states, or even better by local jurisdictions.

We measure our education by global reporting agency ratings and conclude our system is a massive failure.

We then blame the federal Department of Education for the failure while touting our system as primarily run by state and local governments.

So we trust the analysis and reporting of various agencies which are attempting the difficult task of ranking the education of countries around the world, but want to eliminate our own Department of Education which among other things has been measuring our educational progress since 1969 using NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress).

Did Cignetti's Words Fire Up OSU?

I am not a troll. I am a 77 year old IU fan who is a 1969 IU grad and who charged the field in 1967 after the Purdue win. I moved to Cleveland where I continued to attend at least one IU home game a year, usually homecoming, and went to LA this year to see the win over UCLA. I also coached basketball in Ohio for 25 years and yes, had to put up with the reality that IU never beat OSU in football. This was going to be the year. I knew it right after the UCLA game but I also knew how hard it would be to win in Columbus especially when OSU already had a loss and has to play Michigan next week. When I coached I never disrespected the other team. In basketball, you pretty much have to let the other guys shoot the ball and sometimes, guess what, it goes in. Why bad talk them at all to give them more motivation? In football, the best players regardless of the coach, win over 90% of the time. OSU has better players than us. They were already motivated. So yes, I understand why Cignetti said OSU sucks last winter but no I don't get it at all why he said numerous times on TV before the OSU game how much he wins. All that did was to motivate the Buckeyes even more and might even have put more pressure on some of our guys to perform beyond their normal limits. I am a die hard Hoosier fan with a lot of experience in the sports arena, albeit on a smaller scale. I want Cignetti to succeed more than you might ever know but I stand by my statement, that he made a mistake and deserved to be criticized.
Well, we just beat UM the week before, were you complaining then, or through any of the other first 9 games, prior? What he said about the schools sucking was 10 months ago, to fire up a fan base, in front of a full bball crowd to tell them he wasn't coming here to lose and expected to take on the best in the conference. Do I think they noticed it and put a little extra mustard on their part to rub the upstart Hoosiers nose in it? Of course. What did that mean in the game? They punched the last TD in instead of taking a knee. That was it, imo. They were super charged up to prove they're still the big dog and you aren't coming in to the 'Shoe and getting anything less than their best shot.

Sounds like you've had a bee in your bonnet about this since he said it and he made it take 13 weeks to air it out. Again, for that I give him credit. It played zero part in the outcome of the game.

A lot of assumptions, all negative. Whatever dude.

CFP Rankings Prediction

Current Palm predictions:

First round

DATELOCATIONPROJECTIONWINNER FACES
Dec. 20 or 21Autzen Stadium
Eugene, Ore.
(5) Oregon vs. (12) Arizona State(4) Boise State
Dec. 20 or 21Notre Dame Stadium
South Bend, Ind.
(8) Notre Dame vs. (9) Indiana(1) Ohio State
Dec. 20 or 21Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium
Austin, Tx.
(6) Texas vs. (11) SMU(3) Miami
Dec. 20 or 21Beaver Stadium
State College, Pa.
(7) Penn State vs. (10) Tennessee(2) Georgia

A first round game in South Bend would be fun. Talking preferences, though, I'd rather not play OSU again in the second round. I think IU can stay on the field and beat Boise St. or Miami. Not sure I'd want to travel to Texas in the first round, though.
OSU would be in the Rose Bowl so that would be cool. Also better weather and the OL could function better without crowd noise. Sign me up, although I’d rather host a game. Also, I tent to believe that ND will be a 5 or 6 seed at the end of the season. I don’t think it’s out of the question that we can slide into the 8 spot either.

Pam Bondi for AG

You continue to be the first name on the moron list. I think we should list every moron that still believes, despite absolutely zero evidence, that Trump lost the 2016 election due to voter fraud.

1. dbmhoosier
2. DANC (actually paid to be duped by "2000 Mules," a movie and book meant to fleece dupes)
3. Ty Webb iu (who is degrading Caddy Shack with his name)
4.

If you believe the ridiculous allegation, proudly add your name.
(2020, not 2016)

What's funny about this is that even Trump himself has slipped and admitted a couple times that he lost that election. And that's on top of having learned that a number of his own lawyers and top aides knew full well, prior to January 6th, that there was no case to claim election fraud and Biden had won it.

Wisconsin

they lost Storr to Kansas and I think the dude with the Bleach spot left for Louisville. seemed like both were late transfers which puts the coach in a difficult spot. thought there were a lot of complaints they weren't being competitive in NIL
There was...they get undervalued early in every season. Their program gets them to the point where they're overvalued by the end of the season. It would be emotionally difficult to experience, I would think, being a Wisconsin bball fan.

Suckeyes Victory Formation

When you come in the Front door barking the two best historical B10 teams suck, they will take notice and remind you who the Big Dogs are.
Fake victory formation play would more likely come from the sneaky little weasel in the corner. A big dog would have barked out that they were running a traditional dive up the middle, ran it, and plowed their way in to the endzone. That also would have been a more impactful message to IU, and the rest of the college football world. But Day is a whiny little weasel, at his core, so I guess that's the sort of thing to expect from him. I'd wish for better if I had a mini NFL franchise going, like you guys do. But that's just me.

Democrats have left moderate voters behind

I agree in the medium term Republicans should continually say it's a State's issue. Long term, abortion will become illegal or limited to 6 weeks for the reasons I said in my opinion.
It is a states issue. Not because of political expediency (even if it is politically expedient for Republicans) -- but because the Constitution is silent on it and nothing in Article 1 (or elsewhere in the text) empowers Congress to regulate it. When that's the case, that's why we have a 10th amendment.

The Onion buys Infowars

There is no doubt that Musk is a great innovator and that he's the hands-on, driving force behind his businesses, but "single-handedly" is a reach. How many people does he employ?
Nobody accomplishes anything of note without the inputs of other people...all of whom are similarly acting out of their own interest.

Collectivists often point to this as an argument in favor of their worldview....basically that the individualist worldview is one which sees man as Robinson Crusoe, doing everything by himself and for himself.

This is completely wrong.

This became a matter of substantive debate back in the Obama years when he made his comment about "you didn't build that!" He actually lifted that line from Elizabeth Warren, as I recall. They were referring to public infrastructure. But they were also noting that successful entrepreneurs rely on the labors and inputs of others (employees, suppliers, contractors, creditors, insurers, etc.).

So where's the disconnect?

Well, it's that everybody does most of what they do out of self-interest. Adam Smith captured this perfectly in Wealth of Nations:

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages.”
Collectivism and altruism are ideas that center around the concept that we should do what we do in the interest of the collective or of others...that our self-interest should come second, at best.

The reason this doesn't work is that it defies human nature.

Cupps

Just shooting around in an empty gym, 5 racks...yes...100%.

Shepherd has the inherent advantage of playing at Kentucky, and the NBA now, so in a packed NBA arena, in front of thousands of fans, he separates himself from a bunch.

If I took the original point wrong, I'll own it. But one person was arguing that Shepherds athleticism, and skills other than shooting, played little to no role in him being drafted 3rd. I'm making an exaggerated point, to bring differentiators, other than shooting, back in to the conversation.
The interest in the NBA All Star game would increase if they invited a couple of guys from The YMCA that beat the pros in the 3 point contest. It could be somewhat similar to the PGA Opens.

Wisconsin

I chuckle when the "Wisconsin is surprisingly good" post start. They're solid, to good, basically every single year. They play a style that's difficult to play against early in seasons. But they're Wisconsin. They'll compete for a B10 title. And they'll lose early in the NCAA. Purdue is likely back to that as well.
