My good friend did. Bought it and renovated before there two kids went there. 10 years later they still have it.

I know it’s popular to buy a condo/duplex and let one side pay for the other. Really works if you have multiple kids going. One friend had kids 3-4 years apart. Saved them a bunch of money.

never thought of a duplex, to me if kids have a couple of roommates can easily cover a mortgage payment. have an asset that should appreciate and also catch a little tax break. downside would be becoming a landlord and all that comes with that.

Rent it out and they’ve never had any trouble getting renters.

Yeah sometimes the kids are low maintenance and other times they want them to come change a lightbulb.
